Ghost children run around, certain ghosts tuck patrons into bed while others come and rip the covers off of them, and other weird male ghosts are said to be "frisky" with the ladies and "abusive" towards the men. There is also a cowboy ghost who likes to come kiss the guests on their cheeks and visit with them until they ask him to leave. All of them pale in comparison to the spirit of the concert hall manager, who is rumored to scream at guests and push them out of the room if they overstay their welcome. Our resident cinema expert Lorenzo has returned to drop some film history down upon you! Did you know that this year is the horror genre's 125th birthday? Neither did he until the start of this episode! In a tribute to what many argue is the greatest film genre of all time, Lorenzo discusses the first ten horror movies ever to be recorded. With the earliest coming from 1896, these films are experimental, somewhat comedic shorts that paved the way for all horror to follow. What makes these films spooky is that they were produced during the silent film age, meaning that no audio was utilized. Some of these films involved screaming, people acting like lunatics, clowns, crazy dancing, gigantic creatures, and terrifying inanimate objects come to life: imagine seeing all of that but not hearing it? SCARY! Hear Lorenzo's thoughts on the film descriptions mixed with his expertise on film studies as he anxiously counts down the arrival of season two of Outer Banks! It’s another episode featuring Connecticut’s spookiest highlights! Lorenzo and Meghan dig into the home of one of 18th century America’s most heroic figures, Nathan Hale. Hale was a volunteer spy for George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. He was caught and executed via hanging, staying true to himself and his leader. As horrific as his death was, this episode isn’t about him: it’s about the house his family lived in after he passed away, which today serves as a museum in Coventry, Connecticut. Named “The Hale Homestead,” this cool corner is open for tourists eager to communicate with the Hale family ghosts, the most notable of which being Nathan’s father, Deacon Hale. Deacon Hale has been known to make appearances in the window when people peer through it, chase children out of the courtroom, and play telephone with the tour guides. Those are only a few of the creepy tales that Meghan and Lorenzo examine as they unfold their evil scheme to visit and get Deacon Hale’s signature. It’s the start of another fun week and Meghan and Lorenzo are here to share two of Connecticut’s most notorious lore. The Blue Lady is a statue that watches over a gravestone in a cemetery. Some think she represents the Virgin Mother Mary. Others think she represents the woman whose grave she hunches over. Lorenzo thinks the Virgin Mother traveled from Jerusalem to Connecticut and got stuck in statue form. Regardless of which theory you believe, the statue of the Blue Lady has eyes that are said to follow people as they move, and has a negative demeanor that haunts the cemetery. At one point, she was stolen and decapitated though, so who can blame her? The other lore involves the Melon Heads, which are a group of inbred “melon-head-shaped” creatures that have been hiding in the woods since in the 1800’s. Supposedly, Melon Head sightings have been common in southwestern Connecticut in areas surrounded by heavy forest. Meghan ponders the truth behind these lore as Lorenzo discusses his favorite type of melon, cantaloupe. Lorenzo is back with Michelle to discuss the "Abducted in Plain Sight" documentary on Netflix, which centers around one of the most bizarre disappearance cases to date. Get ready to be mind-blown. In the early 1970's, a 40 year-old named Robert Berchtold moved next door to the Broberg family and developed a strange infatuation with one of the family's children, nine year-old Jan Broberg. He would take pictures of her, sleep beside her at sleepovers, and invite her AND ONLY HER to go on lavish trips with him. Eventually, he decided to kidnap her. Not once... not twice... BUT THREE TIMES! AH! He could've been stopped earlier if Berchtold hadn't had both of Jan's parents wrapped around his finger, which makes the case even more absurd. Jan survived to talk about how Berchtold convinced her during her kidnappings that she was an alien that had to procreate with him to save the alien race as a guise for his demented fascination. Those are just a few facets of this disturbing yet intriguing tale.
