  • #167 | Motivation Monday: Why Therapy Never Works

    Send us Fan Mail

Therapy can be a powerful tool for growth. However, you have to realize that it isn’t a quick fix. Oftentimes, without being clear about our intentions and willingness to put in the work, therapy won’t make much of an impact. In this episode, we talk about ensuring you understand what you need most right now. We discuss the importance of being ready to put in the work. We all want to better ourselves, but if we don’t know our goals or are unwilling to do the required work, it can be hard for therapy to reach its full potential. You can ask yourself: What do I want from this process? What am I willing to commit to?

  • #165 | Motivation Monday: Are Emotions Real?

    Send us Fan Mail

When we feel strong emotions, we may question whether or not they are real. Emotions, in the eyes of many people, are very real and have genuine consequences. We can experience a wide range of emotions, from joy to sadness to fear, and even physical responses, like a pounding heart, in response to them. Our interactions with others and our understanding of the world are colored by our emotions. The question is, though: Is it even possible to rein in these feelings? In this episode, we discuss emotions and how they impact our lives. We discuss the fact that we can shift control inwardly and not be afraid of our emotions.

  • #162 | Love Looks Different to Us All

    Send us Fan Mail

The way you see love is different from the next person. You have your own love language and definition of love. Your expectations from your relationships are based on this definition. In this episode, we discuss understanding your needs and refer to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. We share what love means to us and our own experiences in learning about it. You can see how different our needs are and how that shapes love's meaning to us. You can look into yourself and past relationships to narrow down your needs and how they can be met. Through looking in and looking back, you will hopefully be able to define what love means to you and what it means for you to be in a relationship.

  • #161 | Motivation Monday: The Problem Isn't Always What You Think it Is...

    Send us Fan Mail

When you have a problem, it helps to look at it from different perspectives. Break it down into smaller pieces and examine each piece. In this episode, we talk about effective problem-solving. We discuss how to step outside your narrative and look at the situation from another's point of view. Ask yourself, "What if I ask my friend/a professional/this person about this? What will they say?" Then, ask yourself why they would say that. It helps to distance yourself from your problem and see it through someone else's eyes. You will see it in a different light and another angle and discover things you weren't seeing through your own biases. This allows you to form a different narrative about your problem, better understand it, and discover a solution.

  • #160 | Are You Dismissing the Little Things?

    Send us Fan Mail

How were your needs met when you were a child? Was it satisfied most of the time that you didn't think much about it, and now you expect that to be what's normal? Or, were you often disappointed that you got used to not getting what you need, that you now allow some level of neglect in your life? In this episode, we talk about the impact of your childhood on your self-belief and self-worth. The quality of your relationship with your caregiver or caregivers has an effect on your adult relationships. If you're used to having your needs met, you expect the same as an adult. However, if you were often disappointed in an area or some areas of your life, you will be more dismissive of these things being ignored in your adult relationships. These may be little things here and there, but the compound effect can change the quality of your life and relationships. It determines how much you trust and how willing you are to show some vulnerability, which is essential in nurturing relationships.

  • #159 | Motivation Monday: Is This a Realistic Expectation?

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, we talk about keeping things real. Sometimes things are not pretty, and we must take it at face value. There is no need to twist reality like a Rubik's cube to complete a color and find a positive angle to everything that happens to you while meditating on the mantra that "Everything happens for a reason." Does it, really? Or are you fooling yourself into thinking a downright negative situation is meant to happen to you? You can take it as it is, but you don't need to wallow in it. You can still react in a way that results in something positive for you. You can still be positive about the big picture without losing touch with day-to-day reality.
