In today’s happiness-obsessed culture, people often pursue anything that could make them even the slightest bit happy, no matter how shallow or short-lived the feeling may be. Today we discuss the price of being momentarily happy and what being truly happy could mean if you choose to work on yourself. Sometimes, we want to be happy with no costs and all of the benefits. We want the rewards without the risks, the gain without the pain. Ironically, this unwillingness to sacrifice anything makes us more miserable. In reality, happiness has costs, and it’s not always easy breezy figuring out how to be happy either.

There are two types of people in this world: those who view the glass as half-full and those who see the glass as half-empty. This phenomenon is called perception, and our perceptions profoundly impact how we experience life. We believe what we perceive to be accurate and create our own realities based on those perceptions. And although our perceptions feel very real, that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily factual. Today we talk about perception and whether or not you accurately see things, people, and situations around you. If you’re the type that leans more toward the glass-half-empty perspective, don’t worry. Although it requires work, your perception can change because we choose how we see things. That power is in your mind.

Sometimes when we listen to someone or assess a situation, we think way ahead and jump to conclusions. Our emotions default to what we think it is about without objectively analyzing what we currently hear or see. This can cause us to make assumptions and blow things out of proportion. In this episode, we talk about taking a moment to listen and breathe. We discuss shifting our awareness little by little. We also talk about pausing before our brain assigns meaning to help us alter cognitive distortions, so we can choose the meaning to assign to the situation.

Sometimes we compare our current situation with others. What we forget when we are in that headspace is that we are all in different seasons of our lives. We have our own journey, and it is different from everyone else's. In this episode, we talk about feeding into the myth that you have to have figured things out by a certain age or completed a checklist of accomplishments. We discuss the reality that we are all figuring things out and on different timelines. We share that we are on our own path, and it is okay that it is not like the others.

The word ‘goals’ is thrown around a lot these days. So much so that it can be confusing what a goal is. Are resolutions and objectives the same as goals? Why do we need to set goals? Most breakups hurt. We have various ways of handling or avoiding the pain. Sadly some of our moving-on styles are unhealthy. It’s important to be mindful and aware of our methods because they may cause more trauma or hurt in the long run and hold us in a negative cycle. This episode discusses the three Cs of moving on most effectively. We share overviews of our past relationships and evaluate our attachment styles and how they relate to how we moved on after a breakup. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all method, but we can move forward and break the cycle of hurt.
