WAT IS IN DIE LUG?
UIT HIERDIE WÊRELD
Kyk op die lug.
Wonder jy ooit wat daar buite is?
Kom ons vind uit!
STERRE
Op 'n helder aand kan jy baie sterre sien.
Sterre is voorwerpe in ruimte wat uit brandende gas gemaak is.
Sterre lyk klein want hulle is baie ver weg.
Die son is 'n ster.
Dit is die enigste ster wat ons sien gedurende die dag.
Sekere groep sterre het name.
Hulle lyk soos mense of diere.
DIE MAAN
Die maan is 'n groot bal van klip.
Die maan lyk soos die grootse voorwerp in die lug.
Dit lyk groot want dit is naby die aarde.
Die maan maak nie 'n lig in die aand nie.
Die maan lyk helder want die son skyn op dit.
Die son skyn net helfde van die tyd op die maan.
Die ander helfde van die maan is donker.
Die maan lyk anders in verskillende tye van die maand.
Die maan beweeg om die Aarde.
Ons sien verskillende dele van die maan se helder kant in verskillende tye.
Partykeer beweeg die maan voor die son in gedurende die dag.
Die maan blok die son se strale.
PLANETE
Planete is groot voorwerpe wat om 'n ster beweeg.
Die aarde is die planeet wat ons op lewe.
Ons kan vyf planete in die naghemel sien.
Hulle is Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, en Saturn.
Die son skyn op helfde van die aarde op 'n slag.
Die ander helfde is donker.

STARS
On a clear night, you can see many stars.
Stars are objects in space that are made of burning gases.
Stars look small because they are very far away.
The sun is a star.
It is the only star we see during the day.
Some groups of stars have names.
They look like people or animals.
THE MOON
The moon is a big ball of rock.
The moon looks like the biggest object in the night sky.
It looks big because it is close to Earth.
The moon does not make light.
The moon looks bright because the sun shines on it.
The sun only shines on half of the moon at a time.
The other half of the moon is dark.
The moon looks different at different times of the month.
The moon moves around Earth.
We see different parts of the moon’s bright side at different times.
Sometimes the moon moves in front of the sun during the day.
The moon blocks the sun’s rays.
PLANETS
Planets are big objects that move around a star.
Earth is the planet we live on.
We can see five planets in the night sky.
They are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
The sun shines on half of Earth at a time.
The other half is dark.
Earth spins like a top.
We have day and night because Earth spins.
Earth moves around the sun.
Earth makes one trip around the sun each year.
The night sky looks different at different times of the year.
COMETS AND SHOOTING STARS
Comets are bits of dust and ice that move around the sun.
Comets have long tails.
Shooting stars fly through the night sky.
Shooting stars are small space rocks that burn up as they fly toward Earth.
If you blink, you will miss them!
