Dan talks to journalist Ian Johnson about his background, education, and growth into a world-class journalist and observer of modern China. Ian's reporting on China, captured in many articles and books including The Souls of China, offers nuanced insights on the evolution of spirituality in China, including the growth of Christianity, Buddhism, Daoism, and folk religions. We were fortunate enough to host Ian at Upper House last fall in partnership with two UW-Madison centers--the Center for East Asian Studies and the East Asian Legal Studies Center--where he talked about the stunning spiritual revival in China happening today.
