Hey guys, Chris and Melissa here with another Family Brand podcast! Recently, we celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary so we took some time to reflect on what we have learned through all of our ups and downs together so far.
We posted on Instagram just a few of our thoughts on this topic and your feedback was incredible! Our DMs and comments were blowing up with questions about marriage, family, and how we went from the brink of divorcing to now being more in love than ever before…
That is why today we wanted to answer a few of those questions and maybe give encouragement to any of you who are currently struggling in your marriage. If you're new here, we have to be transparent and let you know our marriage wasn't always solid…
In fact, we wanted to end it after only a few years. At one point, it felt like things would never change or get better. It only took one of us to take a stand for our marriage and a new vision for our family started to unfold. Looking back now we will always be grateful for that season because we can say without a doubt that it's gotten so much better.
Whether your marriage is on the mountaintop, or in the valley, this episode will help you start building an even stronger marriage.
Join us as we talk about the lessons that we learned through first-hand experience and how learning to lead well starts with yourself. We talk about the dangers of complacency, finding ways to appreciate your spouse, regular check-ins to know where you are, and even the right words to start that hard conversation.
It's not easy, it takes hard work, vulnerability, and a lot of courage from you both to start this journey, but a whole new life could be on the other side.
Marriage must incessantly contend with a monster
that devours everything: familiarity. - Honore de Balzac
If you know you will need an extra dose of courage, to start building again, we invite you to go back and check out Episode 49 where we talk about how to instill insane courage in yourself and your family.

Hey guys, Chris and Melissa here! Happy New Year and welcome to our first episode in 2022. In a previous episode, we talked about choosing a word that we, both personally and as a family, wanted to embody moving forward. Today, we're going over the words we chose for 2022 and how we plan to step into the new year!
Everyone in our family has a different process for choosing their word, it may come to us randomly, like when we're reading, or sometimes it takes a little quiet and active thinking to really narrow it down. We talk about how we helped our kids focus and really think about how they wanted to show up this year. As well as the words we individually chose to keep us bold and hungry.
Listen in as we talk about our family word, 'embrace', and the three areas we really want to embrace together so that this year is better than ever before. We discuss how we made it easier for everyone to remember our goals and the moment when Melissa revisited a hopeful message in an old journal entry that inspired us to reach just a little further. We'll leave you with the same thought. What if you took the most positive thing you believe about yourself, and you believed it just a little more this year?
We can't wait to put these words into practice and hope that this episode has encouraged you to do the same! For more resources, or to connect with us, check out the links below!

Hey guys! Chris and Melissa here. This time last year we were just settling in with our big move to Hawaii, and now, we're back on the mainland! It feels like things are constantly changing. Can you relate? For the Smith family, despite where we live, or what is happening in the world there's one tradition that we'll keep every year. If you have been a long time listener, we bet you can guess what it is!
That's right, it's time for our New Year's Eve party! If you are new here, you are in for a treat. This tradition is so good, we're bringing back the episode that we think encompasses all you need to implement this tradition into your own family.
Join us as we talk about the moment when we decided we were done ending the year with late nights without our kids, and how we created a fun new way for our whole family to launch into the coming year. For us, looking into the past is not to focus on where we failed, but to see where we succeeded and to see what we've overcome. We've found that doing this not only gives us a chance to teach our kids about introspection but also so we can honor the journey our family has been on in 2021.
You'll hear how we got our kids involved in the year-end review, the questions we felt like would grow us the most, and even how we were able to set our intentions for the new year with just one word. We talk about practical tips to help find your word for 2022 both individually and as a family. As well as the fun games we made to help us live that word out intentionally. You'll learn how you can take this year-end review to create a next-level vision board party and celebrate the best that is within each of your kids.
This tradition is not just practical, it's also SO MUCH FUN! Our whole family looks forward to the end of the year now and how they can learn from the past and spring forward into the future without fear. For more resources, check out the links below!

Hey Guys! Chris and Melissa here. It was this time last year that we had the idea of starting The Family Brand podcast. We had no idea what we were doing, but we took the leap, and now on our one-year anniversary of the show we take a moment to reflect on how much we've gained from taking that small step of faith.
Recording the show has definitely been challenging at times, and though we usually are free spirits, buckling down and committing to recording an episode every week has grown us in ways we didn't expect. Listen in as we talk about our biggest takeaways of the last year and the incredible stories and conversations this show has given us. It has been such an honor to talk with listeners about their own stories and the impact that some of the episodes have had. You'll hear about our favorite episodes and maybe ones you haven't even heard yet.
From developing our voice to having new and thought-provoking conversations, this podcast has given us the opportunity to not only grow as individuals but bring those talks to our kids and grow as a family. If there was one thing that we would want you to take away from today it's this internal question. What if you just did it? What if you took that seed of passion, that idea you want to grow, and just did it? What would your life look like a year from now? This podcast has had such a big impact on our whole family and we are so glad we stepped out and added it into the mix. If we can do it, so can you!

Episode Minute By Minute:
Hey everyone! Chris and Melissa here with another Family Brand Podcast. By the time you are listening to this, chances are our family has officially moved from Hawaii back to the mainland. If we are being honest, it hasn't been an easy decision to move home. All of us are going to miss the views, experiences, and adventures we have been able to have here. Not to mention, leaving the incredible community we've made here has been nothing short of a tear-jerker.
It was almost too hard to leave, but sometimes the greatest adventures start when other doors close.
Today we wanted to take a minute and share our gratitude for the magic we've experienced while living in Hawaii and why we're moving on to our next big adventure.
One of our big values is to answer the call of adventure, we want to look back at our lives and not be disappointed by the opportunities we didn't take. With that comes a big responsibility to listen when adventure calls, even if where we are has been a dream. Listen in as we talk about the moment when we both felt a stirring that pointed us in the direction of a small town in Arizona. Like we said before this decision wasn't made lightly, and on paper, the decision doesn't make sense.
However, the magic of dreams is that the opportunities presented don't always make sense. We talk about how we really dug deep and discerned the difference between our hearts and heads, and how leaning into our hearts opened up the possibility for new a season and faith that God has us no matter what. We will be endlessly thankful for all the impact God has done through us and everything we have learned from Hawaii. Our hope is that we can come back to visit whenever we can, but for now, the calling has pulled us back to Chris' hometown and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for us.
We hope this episode encourages you to answer that call as well. It has nothing to do with location, and everything to do with what you want and what's best for you and your family. To connect with us, check out our Instagram below!

This time of year is famous for all sorts of traditions, from perfecting your pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving to snuggling up with the family and watching your favorite Christmas movie, we are surrounded by new and old traditions alike. Sometimes, we have a tradition that's so old we don't even know why we do it.
Have you thought about your traditions lately? Do you know the purpose they serve?
It's no secret that here at family brand our biggest value is creating a culture of belonging and identity within your family to raise your kids with purpose. If you want to strengthen your family, connect with them on a new level, and instill a certainty and confidence in your kids that will never go away even years down the road. This episode is for you!
Listen in as we talk about the power of tradition and how it is all around us, even if it's not the holidays. Something as simple as a weekly meal has the power to create lasting connections and understanding between your family. We talk about how we began reviewing our own traditions, our favorite traditions now, and how learning to let go of the ones that didn't serve us only opened the door for new ones that did.
You'll get practical questions to differentiate the traditions that strengthen your family and the ones that would be better left alone. Remember you can't get these answers wrong! It all comes down to what serves your family best, so don't be afraid to bring the whole family in on the conversation. You may be surprised at what your kids actually like.

Episode Minute By Minute:
Hey guys! Chris and Melissa here, as we approach living in Hawaii for nearly a year, it has been fun for us to explore and reminisce on all the things that living here has taught us! These lessons are something we hope to cherish and carry with us for the rest of our lives.
Living the Aloha spirit is one of those lessons.
You may have heard the term before, it's what people on the island call the "aloha state". But it wasn't until we moved here that we really understood what it means to live "aloha". For Hawaiians, aloha is more than just a greeting, it's a concept, a celebration of life, a way to give and receive love and affection with your whole community. We've learned that it doesn't need to be a holiday or even a big occasion to celebrate others with intention.
In today's world, we could all use a little more "aloha". Join us as we share real-life stories and examples from this past year of what living 'the aloha spirit' has meant for us, and how it's changed how we do life, forever. Every ball game, birthday, or even just an ordinary dinner is an opportunity to share warmth, friendliness, and affection with those around us.
We hope this episode encourages you to take a look and see where you can inject a little more "aloha spirit" into your life. For more resources or to connect with us, check out the links below!
