Hey Guys, Chris and Melissa here!
When we talked about this week's episode we both had the exact same idea in mind. It's a simple question that anyone can usually answer right away.
What are you most afraid of?
Did a bunch of feelings come up reading that? You aren't alone, everyone has fears that they experience daily and we've even had conversations with our kids recently on how to handle and push past fear. There's a thought process that someone has to overcome fear to really be able to do what they want in life, but we were thinking, what if you just pushed past fear and did it anyway?
We talk about the emotion of fear and how its main objective is to paralyze us and keep up from doing anything, we discuss the best action to take against fear is just that. To take action. Listen in as we talk about the root causes of fear, recognizing where fear lives, our own fears that we're dealing with right now, and some practical steps you can take to make fear a stepping stone instead of something that suppresses your creativity and purpose. In this episode, we make a real-time action plan on how we can face our fears in the coming week and how we can continue to take steps that grow us and not hinder us.
So, we challenge you this week to identify a fear of yours that you want to take action on, identify why you aren't taking action, and then share that with someone. Like we said you are not alone! We will be posting about this on our Instagram, you can find the links below and encourage you to follow and comment on what you're goals are for facing your fears!

Hey guys, Chris and Melissa here!
Before you listen to this episode, we have a question for you...think back to the last conversation you had. Did you listen to respond or did you listen to hear?
Those two things may sound the same but when put into practice they have very different outcomes. In today's episode, we have an open discussion about learning to become better listeners and creating space for each other and our children so that they can be who they really are. We found that when we took a step back and really heard what our kids were saying it opened up more free communication between us, and it also helped them learn more about themselves.
We talk about our journey of learning to listen to each other and how asking the hard questions helped to learn more about each other, ourselves, and created trust and authenticity in our relationship. It's easier to stay on the surface and not ask hard or confronting questions but diving in and really hearing what the other person is saying brings so much joy and openness to those around you!
You'll learn about the resources that have helped us through this journey as well as some helpful tips from us to start incorporating real listening into your life today. Check out the links below and start listening to those closest to you in a way that lets you actually see them!

Hey guys! Chris and Melissa here, have you ever had a tingle in the back of your mind, a little idea that makes you want to step out and try a new experience with your family?
One of the questions we get asked most is "Why did you decide to move to Hawaii?" and while it was a leap of faith there are steps we've been taking for years that helped support our move. We each have had our own share of adventures together and it's something that we really wanted to incorporate into our family. We discuss our family value of being adventurous and how that has fostered curiosity and excitement within our kids and ourselves.
We tell the story about how we even got the idea, trusting in ourselves, and all the other blessings that happened to make moving a possibility. The call for your family may not be as big as moving across an ocean but we are sure that there is a dream within you that is just waiting for you to step out and do it. Even if you aren't sure what that dream is yet, we talk about how you can be more aware and never miss a call to adventure again.
Listen as we talk about the importance of dreams and why you shouldn't wait any longer to take action. Take the adventure and run with it! You won't regret it.

Hey guys, Chris and Melissa here!
There are so many cliches and sayings in our culture revolving around money, like "We can't afford that" or "Money is the root of all evil" or even "We're never going to get ahead" and we get it we have said those exact phrases once or twice in our lives and even when we started making more we leaned towards being negative.
But then we realized that the way we interacted with money would influence how our kids viewed money.
Today we have a conversation about the beliefs and stories we have regarding money, and income and how we can work to balance needs while still growing. We've been working on our mindsets for about 10 years now and still have to catch ourselves when we almost say "we can't afford that". The amazing thing is, as we started changing our mindsets it gave us opportunities to create more abundance in our lives.
We talk about a moment that changed how Chris viewed time and money, setting both our minds on growing a healthier relationship with money and the impact we could make through it. We'll share the strategy and steps we take to expand our horizons and create income instead of shutting it down immediately and how this has affected our family for the better. Like we said it is a journey, but if you're willing to challenge the limiting beliefs that you may hold about money then you can move past the struggle and start to grow a better life for you and your family. Hey guys, Chris and Melissa here! With summer now just right around the corner, we like most families started dreaming about vacations and what we should do this year. That is why we are excited to share with you this week one of our favorite things to do as a family.
If you follow us on Instagram, you may already know the answer….it's road trips!
Our love of road trips started a few years ago when Chris booked a speaking gig during the middle of spring break. Our solution at the time was to get the kids, rent an RV and drive from Phoenix to San Francisco! Honestly, at first it felt overwhelming and like a really bad idea, but it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. We loved it so much we have made it a goal to take a road trip every year.
We want to challenge you to do the same!
Today let's talk about how taking road trips has brought a new sense of adventure for not only us but for our kids as well, and how some of our most meaningful conversations and experiences are talking about our dreams and goals with no distractions. We'll also give some practical tips and tricks that we do to make it more exciting whether it's an overnight trip or a couple of weeks, why we decided not to eat at any chain restaurants, and why the best plan is to not plan at all.
Getting out of cities and traveling through places with no cell reception, staying at camping grounds, and even taking back roads is something that only continues to grow our family connection deeper. So, we challenge you to go for a road trip this summer whether big or small and bring your family the spirit of adventure!

Hey guys, Chris and Melissa here!
Recently, we posted on Instagram about how our 4th anniversary was almost our last, if you've listened to Family Brand for a while you know that there was a point in our marriage where we almost gave it all up and were considering divorce. After that post, we were surprised by how many reached out to us because they are in a similar situation. Messages like "How did you go from the brink of divorce to where you are 12 years later with a thriving marriage?" came flooding in.
We have heard similar questions over the years since coming out of that dark season but we feel like we never really give a great answer. Frankly, it's just too big of a question. The reason being, we feel like people are looking for one or two actionable takeaways as an answer, and it's just not possible to save a marriage with a step-by-step checklist.
However, there are practical keys and wisdom we gained after walking out that season and making it to the other side. That's why today we have a raw and honest conversation about why your marriage is worth fighting for.
We know that everyone and every marriage is different, but after our own struggle and personal marriage journey, we believe that this conversation will give you everything you need to start the process of not only saving your marriage but to become a stronger, and happier family in all. Listen in as we talk about how we began the process of saving our marriage and the faith that helped us take it one step at a time.
We aren't going to sugar coat it and make it seem like its an easy thing to do, this will take a lot of mindset changes, surrounding yourself with encouragement and truth, and trying every last option you have, but we also want you to know that there is a third option to stay, work on your marriage, and be happy.
You are stronger than you think, and you can decide to stand up for your marriage, your family, and your kids.
Disclaimer: This is a very direct conversation and this episode may not be exactly what you want to hear if you are in this scenario. However, this is the podcast and conversation we wish we had in that season… We ask you to give it a try and make a stand for your marriage today.

Hey guys, Melissa here, if you're a parent of young kids you've heard the phrase "Just wait until they're teenagers!" That saying is always been something that makes me pause and think. I get that most of the time this comment is made in good fun, but as you know, we take the language we use with our family seriously. Sayings like this make it feel like we're setting our kids up for failure before they've even had a chance to begin.
In today's episode, we talk with Christi Davis a coach specializing in helping parents raise teenagers. Christi is a mom of seven, a certified life coach, and a public speaker, she has not only helped numerous parents walk through the constantly changing world of teenagers but has navigated it and put these practices to the test.
We talk about how our roles as mothers change as our kids grow older, how you can support them while they find their independence, creating a safe space for your teenager to ask questions, and even how you can find peace and calm in the midst of what feels like crisis.
Christi has some amazing insight on what defines a successful parent, and how you can keep a connection with your teenager even when it seems they are determined to go against everything you say.
With one of our kids becoming a pre-teen I'm finding that I may just have to tweak some stuff so I can instill confidence and security as he starts to navigate the world. I hope you find encouragement and understanding to do what's right for your family, and each individual kid.

Isn't it crazy to think it has almost been one year since the world hit the pause button?
Much like the 911 attack, it seems like everyone remembers the exact moment when the country went on lockdown. In great detail, you could probably describe where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, and how it felt.
This week in the Smith house we have been thinking a lot about mental health. Not just for us as a couple, but for our kids too.
Recently, we came across a study that surveyed 350 children and they found that 70% percent of the children had experienced a deterioration of their mental health. This is not surprising with all of the changes that kids were thrust into in such a short amount of time. Think about it.
No in person school, no more hanging out with friends, no more sports, birthday parties, shopping in an actual store. Not to mention trying to balance the feeling of missing grandparents, but knowing that staying away is how to keep them safe.
Sure, you could say kids had it easy because they aren't worried about the market crash or the economy, but when you look at it from their perspective; their whole world changed and turned upside down.
Our point is, mental health and learning how to become resilient is a family affair.
In today's episode, we want to share with you the ways we are intentionally creating a family culture where everyone can talk about their thoughts, identify specific feelings, and emotions without fear of judgment. Plus, learn how to help each other, and kids keep a "can-do" attitude despite what the current circumstances may be.
As we say in our house, Smiths do hard things.
We know your family can too!
