  • We Changed Our Minds… Maybe

    Episode Summary:

Jarrett and Tre’vell are reflecting on some of the controversial topics they have dropped over the last 100 episodes, wondering if they still feel the same way about topics cancel culture and boycotting, Wendy Williams, and mediocre Black art. Episode Notes:

  • Kevin Hart

FANTI is just one week away from releasing its 100th episode, so we are kicking off 2022 by revisiting the very first episode that FANTI ever released, which has Tre’vell sharing the story of an Iowa Democratic Caucus voter who somehow didn’t know Mayor Pete is gay in a segment called Pass the Popcorn. Our FANTI topic for the week is Kevin Hart, as we revisit his Oscars 2019 controversy and discuss how he’s still navigating the consequences a year later. And, make sure to stick around for our segment Dis/Honorable mentions, where we’ll shout out (and sometimes shout) those who made the news this week.

Also, we are so excited that you are a listener of FANTI, a podcast about being a fan when the people and things you love don’t always do right! Stick with us through 2022 as Tre’vell and Jarrett help you navigate the complex and complicated conversations about the gray areas in our lives.

  • What Mary Didn’t Know … A Sexy FANTI Christmas (ft. Mykal Kilgore and Mychael Chinn)

    Episode Summary:

One thing’s for sure, Mary didn’t know that Christmas could sound so good. For this episode, Jarrett and Tre’vell are gifting your ears with some holiday bops! And they have invited friends scripted executive of “Kirk Franklin's A Gospel Christmas” Mychael Chinn, and R&B singer and songwriter Mykal Kilgore to talk about holiday songs they love and hate. This heated discussion, filled with laughter and cheer, will have you dancing while chugging eggnog and decorating your Christmas tree. Plus, for our Hanukkah listeners, we have a song for you!

    Episode Notes:

Jarrett and Tre’vell created a FANTI Christmas playlist of all the jams that were discussed on the pod, including The Braxton’s “Mary, Did You Know?,” Natalie Cole’s “Jingle Bells,” Peal Jam’s “Someday at Christmas,” Ariana Grande’s “Wit It This Christmas,”  Kelly Price’s “In Love at Christmas (feat. • Jussie Smollett

    Episode Summary:

The long-awaited Jussie Smollett episode is here, and Tre’vell and Jarrett dig into the complex and complicado of the sticky situation. Tre’vell and Jarrett unpack the emotional turmoil they experienced while reporting on the story as well as the turmoil the recent verdict has surfaced. And, to make the discussion even more surprising, Tre’vell and Jarrett moved the Black History Is Happening Everyday segment to the top of the discussion, inviting “The Beauty President’s” Director Whitney Skauge and Star Terence Smith to talk about their latest short documentary, which details Terence Smith running for president as his drag queen persona Joan Jett Blakk, becoming the first drag queen to ever run.

    Episode Notes:

Jarrett mentioned the Instagram clip of Clay Cane’s interview with Smollet’s defense attorney, the full interview can be watched on SiriusXM’s app and on YouTube. Tre’vell mentioned “The Good Morning America” interview with Robin Roberts that was completed early on in Smollett’s trial. Also, the project that Smollett was in the process of directing before his claims is “B-Boy Blues,” which was based on the bestselling novel by James Earl Hardy. The article that inspired Skauge to direct “The Beauty President” is titled, “Drag Herstory: The Drag Queen Who Ran For President in 1992.” You can watch the short documentary on YouTube, and you can connect with Whitney Skauge on Instagram @whitneyskauge.

    DIS/Honorable Mentions

HM: ABC and Hulu released “Abbott Elementary,” a comedy about public school teachers in Philadelphia helping inner-city youth succeed against all the odds.

HM: Netflix’s True Story star’s Kevin Hart in a thriller about two brothers trying to stay on top in a world filled with crime.

HM: HBO Max's "Sex and the City" Revival “And Just Like That,” gets a mention because it seems to address the criticism of the first edition's lack of diversity.

HM: Megan Thee Stallion just graduated from the HBCU Texas Southern University, and she posted on her Instagram to commemorate.

HM: The Indie Spirit Award nominations are out, and the dark comedy Zola, a film about a stripper’s trip to Florida spiraling out of control, leads the nominations.
