Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Lawrence Loh, who is the outgoing medical officer of health for the Region of Peel and the executive director and CEO of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Dr. Loh reflects on his time leading one of Canada's most populous regions through the pandemic and some of the more bold decisions he made earlier on in the pandemic like issuing a directive for businesses with five or more cases of COVID-19 to shut down, the temporary shutdown of an Amazon warehouse in Peel region that employed as many as 5,000 workers and was facing an outbreak and he tells us about the time he issued a Section 22 under the Health Protection and Promotion Act in order to close down schools in Peel Region to protect kids and families from COVID-19 spread.

BC DECRIMINALIZES SMALL POSSESSION OF CERTAIN ILLEGAL DRUGS

British Columbia is becoming the first jurisdiction in North America to decriminalize the possession of certain illegal drugs including Fentanyl, MDMA, cocaine, heroin and meth for three years (in effect from Jan. 31, 2023, to Jan. 31, 2026). WOMEN VS. MEN IN THE ECONOMY & INTEREST RATES
Libby Znaimer is joined by Katherine Scott, A senior researcher with Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, and Ian Lee, an Associate Professor at Carleton University in the Sprott School of Business.
Katherine Scott details a report she authored that shows that women in Canada faced disproportionate economic losses during the pandemic compared to men. A big factor in this is the high rate of women employees in sectors of the economy that were hard hit. Meanwhile, Ian weighs in on the Bank of Canada increasing the interest rate to 1.5 percent.
