Fighting In The War Room: A Movies And Pop Culture Podcast

This week, Da7e saw some movies, I guess. First, Da7e tries to sell David, Patches, and Katey on The Bride! which is the kind of big swings that should be happening in early March, says he. Then, Da7e saw undertone an A24 horror movie about a podcast gone wrong and thinks people might like it if they see it with good sound. Then, the boys and some of the boys’ children saw Hoppers and it seems to have worked magic on audiences…except for Da7e.

This week, everyone manages to make it back into the War Room, but also manage to not mention the very real war that started since last episode. Don’t worry, though, a Canadian listener writes in prompting David to give hockey opinions and all of us to give dour patriotism opinions. Then, into the show, as your hosts seem to heartily recommend A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ first season on HBO, Katey informs the guys about the changes to the awards landscape after SAG’s Actor Awards were given out, then everyone turns their speculation on the recent announcement that Paramount/Skydance, not Netflix, is buying Warner Bros. IT’S ALL SPECULATION, DON’T PUT THIS ON REDDIT.

This week, a huge snow storm on the east coast shut down David’s access to the internet, breaking his Fighting In The War Room streak. Your other three hosts – Patches, Katey, and Da7e – all assemble in the war room and forsake both David’s streak and the format of the podcast.

This not-an-episode chat includes Katey talking about her Wuthering Heights viewing, Da7e talking about his in-theater Twin Peaks: The Return experience, Patches talking about in-theater wuxia flick Blades of the Guardians. Outside of the theater, Daniel Radcliffe is in several new projects (The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins) but might not be better than Harry Melling, who killed it in Pillion.

Also, they like the Olympics and dislike the FBI Director partying with a hockey team.

CEASE AND DECEASE!

This week, David continues his streak on what he insists is his fourth of seven consecutive weeks on the podcast, but Patches felt ill, so Katey and Da7e get the pleasure of pre-colonoscopy David. First, Da7e and David discuss Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, a very-Canadian movie in theaters now that has either been slightly overhyped for you…or you have no idea what it is. Then, the new Mandalorian and Grogu trailer excites the children and isn’t that what Star Wars is for? Finally, Netflix has a new documentary about an old reality TV series, so Katey and Da7e dig into Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.

This week, David continues his streak on what he insists is his third of seven consecutive weeks on the podcast, but Katey Rich had to be in Los Angeles for awards stuff. David and Patches listen to Da7e talk about Emerald Fennell’s very goopy “Wuthering Heights,” then Patches and David talk about the zen of an independent game named Cairn where you climb a mountain.

This week, David continues what he insists is his second of seven consecutive weeks on the podcast, and it turns out it’s because he’s on book leave. After talking about Heater Rivalry again because you wrote in about it, three of the hosts discuss Disneyland Handcrafted a new collection of documentary footage available on Disney Plus and YouTube. Then, Da7e saw the Charli XCX movie The Moment and since it’s a mockumentary it kind of fits with the topic (enough for a mini segment) before they all jump into Oscar doc frontrunner The Perfect Neighbor, which is on Netflix right now.

Because of the nature of documentaries and this podcast, we assume you know Walt Dinsney succeeded in making Disneyland, Charli XCX released an album called brat in 2024, and The Perfect Neighbor includes a shooting and arrest as viewed through police body cam footage. We don’t think these are spoilers.

This week, David begins what he claimed was seven consecutive weeks on the podcast by giving an overview of what he saw at the final Park City Sundance. He mentions Closure, I Want Your Sex, The Invite, The Shitheads, Rachel Lambert’s Carousel, Zi, Josephine and The History of Concrete (and didn’t seem to like too much). Then, Da7e did his gay hockey homework and is going to treat Katey’s recommendations on the show much more seriously in the future. Finally, the group dives into THE SECRET AGENT after debating if people can actually still see it in theater.

This week, Katey and Da7e were the only hosts who could make it to the war room, so instead of doing a traditional episode, the two talk about how there’s some good television out there! Da7e finally started Heated Rivalry (Katey has seen it all), and Katey tries to explain why this gay hockey show hooks people. Then, Da7e talks about a horror book he read, and by the by the two start talking about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO and The Pitt season 2 on…oh shit, are we just watching HBO?. Finally, Katey asks what’s up with this 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and Da7e explains the first half of the movie currently in theaters trying to bait everyone into watching the second half.

We’re back at it again, ranking our favorite movies of last year in one long podcast! This year, we even beat David’s video countdown by about a week, so we’re historically ahead of schedule. Below you will find this year’s format with timestamps for when we discuss a particular entry (Da7e tried to make it so the movies were only discussed during their highest placement). We can’t help but make hints about The Bone Temple and clarify if Katey Rich was invited to an awards dinner or not along the way.

This week, David is doing a Q&A about something, so Katey, Patches, and Da7e gather in the war room to review TRAIN DREAMS (on Netflix! It’s good!) and MARTY SUPREME (in theaters! It’s also good!) and talk about Katey’s family time at Disney World and why her children will be amongst the first to stream TRON: ARES. Don’t worry, Timothée Hal Chalamet, David Ehrlich isn’t mean to you because he’s not on this episode.
