  • Hf #022: For when you forget how BIG our calling is…
I re-learned a powerful lesson this weekend and God really convicted my heart to remember the right way I need to think about motherhood, marriage, and my home.

I need to remember, day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment, that God has given me an eternally significant calling in my home. It's so easy to forget this calling on those tough days. So here's a quick encouragement for your week to remember this calling and to cherish it.

Join me for this shorter episode to discuss and remember, the important position God has called us to. He has given us the tools and the calling to have a profound impact - and ministry - on those within our homes.

    Book of the Week:
Disciplines of a Godly Woman by Deborah Hughes

I really like this book because it's written to all women. You don't have to be a wife or a mom or really get a lot out of it. The book is broken up into 5 sections: soul, character, relationships, ministry, and grace. So the book explores topics such as: the gospel, prayer, worship, community within the church, giving, and more. It also has a great appendix with some really good resources such as: hymns for your devotion time. It's been a few years since I've read this one, so I'm planning on going back and reading it again soon. If you are looking to start a women's Book study group, this one would be a great one to go through. And if you are in a couple's Book study, you could even temporarily break into two groups as the men go through the godly men one and you ladies go through this one. Or go through the godly family one together. I highly recommend it!

  • Hf# 19: How to be a “Good” Homemaker
Over the past several years I’ve wrestled with what a homemaker really is. What does it meant to “keep my home?” How do I decide day in and day out what I should be spending my time on?Where do I turn when I feel overwhelmed by it all??

Getting to the roots of what a homemaker is (and really understanding what that means) has time and again given me encouragement. It has freed me up to focus on what is important in life and let go of those insecurities that plague us all.

Keeping a home means transforming four walls into a place of rest from this world. It means creating a haven for your family to slow down and focus on Christ. In today's episode that's what we are going to be taking a look at. What does it really mean to be a "good" homemaker?

    Book of the Week:
The Christian Homemaker's Handbook by Pat Ennis & Dorothy Patterson

This book is a massive resource that would take you a while to just sit down and read! But each chapter which is some what self contained as each chapter is written by a separate author. The book is broken up into 6 parts: God's Design for the Home, God's View of the Sanctity of Life, Foundations for Parenting, The Practical Aspects of Establishing a Home, Planning and Preparing Healthy Meals, Making Wise Clothing Decisions. This is a big book with 40 full chapters. It's a great book and a good one to have for reference. However, if you are really struggling in your homemaking and feel totally overwhelmed: This book is probably not for you right now. If that's you, I suggest you instead pick up a copy of Glimpses of Grace by Gloria Furman.

    Book of the Week:
Glimpses of Grace: Treasuring the Gospel in Your Home by Gloria Furman

Gloria is one of my all time favorite authors and her two books: Glimpses of Grace and Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full are both in my top 10 books of all time. Gloria writes from within the reality of homemaking. What it actually looks like when you are burnt out and exhausted from caring for your home each day. But she also has such a powerful way of bringing everything back to the Gospel and how we need to view our home within the scope of eternity. A very powerful book that I highly recommend all women read! You can check it out on Amazon as a print book or on Kindle.
