My guest in this episode is Pam Russell. We’re talking about growing up in a family without any emotions, not feeling good enough under the pressure to be perfect, and what happens when you allow yourself to open up and be vulnerable in the company of other women.
Pam is a writer, journalist, mother of two daughters and a connector of women. She and I met through her Facebook group, Hot Women of an Uncertain Age. Check out her blog Brash - an unapologetic midlife at https://www.brashmidlife.com/
Growing up, Pam inferred that not showing your emotions means you’re strong, and being a girl equaled being weak, and she never wanted to be seen as girly. It wasn’t until she started talking with a therapist a few years ago that she even realized she had emotions because she had never allowed herself to access them.
This realization, along with some international travel, shifted her paradigm and caused her to question everything she’d been taught about the way we live our lives.
Listen to the end to hear what she has to say about society’s expectations.

Brandtographer Melissa Henry joins me today for a discussion about dragging around the stories we tell ourselves and finding the self-awareness and courage to change them. We dive into not feeling enough and the difference between the stress you feel when you’re doing something you love vs the stress associated with being in situations where you’re not empowered.
Melissa’s years of being in a career that didn’t particularly suit her can be traced back to her mid-teen years, when she saw her parents go through bankruptcy. That situation created a foundational belief around money that drove her initial career choice. And she admits, it still affects her today.
She spent years talking herself out of doing what she really wanted to do in life. Thinking “I just need to…” do x, y or z “before I can do that.” A therapist helped her work through many of her fruitless thought patterns. But it took her another 16 years of questioning her intelligence… before an incident with the hamburglar and an overwhelming desire to punch her client in the face… pushed her to finally make the jump.
Today Melissa is living exactly the right life for her right now.
I’m still in disbelief about the whole who stole the hamburger story. That is crazy. If you work in an environment like that, seriously, you need to get out now.

This meditation focuses on love and forgiveness.
When we’re able to forgive, we’re able to make space for and allow more love into our world. Forgiveness is not forgetting or condoning what someone did. It is acknowledging that they made a choice that wasn’t to your liking.
When you forgive, you set yourself free. You open space in your heart for love.
Who do you need to forgive today?

Today’s fascinating conversation is with medical visionary Melanie Weller. I don’t say much in this one because I’m so enthralled with what she’s sharing about the intersections of mythology, anthropology, archeology, and science. And how she tranforms lives through her work with patients to improve their vagus nerve function.
We’re touch on hearing and trusting your intuition. And how the Universe gives you opportunities to find your way back to yourself. But sometimes everything in your world has to fall apart in order for you to come together whole.
Throughout her childhood and early adulthood, Melanie felt her self-worth was directly tied to her accomplishments. She racked up more and more credentials and lived what looked like a Norman Rockwell slash Martha Stewart life as a quote, unquote GOOD Navy wife.
Find out more about Melanie:
Melanie Weller collected a lot of professional credentials while she was FINE and in the process of a forceful extraction of the genie from the bottle, created a paradigm-shifting process to access genius, health, and flow in your body and business using the vagus nerve as a portal. She now leads with her inner Queen High Priestess Warrior Magician of the Cosmos, and tows her credentials behind her.

This meditation is designed to help you feel grounded and safe in this moment. Sometimes anxiety can spin you into a frenzy. Worrisome thoughts get stuck playing on an endless loop through your mind. It doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t serve you in any useful way.
Use this one to bring yourself back to the present moment, and tap into the power of your root chakra, so you can find peace and calm again.

My guest today is Courtney Boles and we’re talking about following the rules, asking for what you want, and perceptions that may or may not be true. She also shares a couple of great exercises you can do if you ever find yourself alone and sobbing in your apartment on Christmas.
Courtney and I met through the Success Champions Networking group and connected over our mutual love for the Florida Gators. I didn’t hear her whole story before we had the conversation for this episode, but I knew she had experience moving from fine to fantastic and that others could benefit from hearing it. Courtney was raised in the Baptist church and taught to be a “good girl.” She inferred that JOY meant Jesus, Others, You, in that order – which led her to always put herself last. After 15 years of marriage to a “fine” young man, she finally allowed herself to tell the truth about what was going on in her relationship. With the help of her therapist, Rita, who she calls the patron Saint of broken and abused women – Courtney decided to take responsibility for her own choices. She shares what she discovered about her family and herself since then. And how she used one of the lowest points in her life as inspiration to learn and go bigger – like the bad ass she really is.

In this meditation, we’re focusing on patience. The dictionary defines patience as the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. I recently read a book called Innercise. One of the key takeaways was “everything happens in its own time.” There is always a gestation period. Whether you agree with what that amount of time is or should be is a different story.
Listen to this one when you feel frustration around how long something is taking to show up for you.

Today I’m talking with Caren Cooper about conformity, losing your identity, letting fear drive your decisions, and self-sabotage.
Caren and I met through LinkedIn. I saw a comment she made on someone else’s post and thought, I bet she has a story to share about moving from Fine to Fantastic. So I messaged her, we chatted, and here we are.
Caren was taught to conform, sit-down and shut up. So she did, for her first 50 years. Going to college, working in corporate America, and raising her children – doing what she was “supposed” to do. And everything was, eh, pretty much, fine.
She shares what she discovered about living in victim-mode and always finishing the “what if” question with something negative. And when life – ironically – got easier.

This meditation focuses on helping you see and love yourself as the divine being you are. This isn’t always easy. We tend to beat ourselves up for all our perceived shortcomings. We say things to ourselves that we would never say to someone we love.
Listen to this one when you are open to resetting your heart energy and finding more love for yourself.
