DAY 100: 1 Samuel 9–12
1 Samuel 9–12 gives us the rise of Israel's first king, and from the very beginning something is off. Saul is everything the people asked for outwardly, impressive, capable, and victorious, yet beneath the surface there is hesitation, instability, and a kingship shaped more by human expectation than divine obedience. Samuel's farewell address in chapter 12 makes clear that receiving what you asked for does not justify the asking, and that the future now hinges entirely on whether king and people alike will fear and obey the Lord. These chapters ultimately point us to Christ, the true and better King, who is not selected by outward appearance but appointed by the perfect will of God, whose reign does not reflect the flawed desires of the people but establishes righteousness, covenant faithfulness, and a kingdom that cannot fail.
