Until January Jim O’Brien was at the heart of the USA foreign policy as an Assistant Secretary of State in the Biden administration. He’s now a fellow at the Vienna Institute for Human Sciences (IWM). In the past few months he has had to watch on as the new Trump administration unpicks his work and indeed sacks many of the diverse young diplomats and experts he employed. Now President Donald Trump has taken the USA into direct conflict with Iran. Fm4’s Chris Cummins spoke to Jim about that military adventure, Trump’s psychology and lessons for the Democrats.
