A new proposed bill in Texas would block state and local entities from recognizing and enforcing extreme risk protective orders, commonly referred to as red flag laws. Red flag laws allow law enforcement—per a judge’s order—to confiscate firearms from anyone they believe is at risk of committing a crime. 

State Rep. Briscoe Cain, who authored the measure, issued a statement saying, the bill “is about standing up for the constitutional rights of Texans, ensuring that citizens are not stripped of their rights without due process. This bill is a clear message that Texas will not bow to federal overreach and will always protect the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution.”

Today on Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss new proposed rules that could crack down on 3D printed "ghost guns."

From ABC News 4 NY: Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., on Friday called on New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to close state “loopholes” which allegedly enabled Luigi Mangione to use a “ghost gun” in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

“The probable use of a 3D-printed ghost gun by Luigi Mangione to assassinate Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, underscores the need for a complete and comprehensive prohibition of ghost guns in New York,” Rep. Torres wrote in a letter to the governor. “The explosion of ghost guns onto the streets of New York and into the hands of dangerous people has led to an unprecedented crisis in public safety ... I am respectfully calling upon you as Governor to include in your executive budget proposal legislation that closes the manufacturing loophole in ghost gun laws and closes the ghost gun loophole in gun manufacturing laws. No stone can be left unturned in the New York’s fight against gun violence, which has been compounded by the proliferation of privately made firearms.”

A criminal complaint in Pennsylvania describes the weapon in Mangione’s possession as a black 3D-printed pistol, loaded with nine-millimeter rounds in a Glock magazine, with a handle made of plastic and a slide and a threaded barrel made of metal. The complaint notes Mangione was carrying a 3D-printed silencer as well.

On today’s episode of Focal Point, Mike Glover and Andy Stumpf discuss a new report that outlines what happened last January, when two SEALs died during an operation off the coast of Somalia.

Two U.S. Navy SEALs drowned during a nighttime boat raid off the coast of Somalia last January because their personal gear was too heavy, causing them to sink almost immediately upon hitting the water, according to the results of a recently-released military investigation.

The two SEALs were identified as Nathan Gage Ingram, 27, who was posthumously promoted to Special Warfare Operator 1st Class, and Christopher Chambers, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of Chief Special Warfare Operator.

"The root cause of these drownings was a lack of a fail-safe and layered defense to provide buoyance ... whether to overcome the weight of equipment, fatigue from extreme physical exertion and resultant inability to tread water, or an injury suffered during the boarding process," the Navy concluded.
