Thomas is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Free Republic of Liberland.

In this episode, Thomas discusses Liberland’s evolving diplomacy and the nation’s efforts to foster peace and cooperation with its neighbours. The conversation explores ongoing dialogues with Croatia and Serbia, the delicate balance of seeking international recognition, and the challenges posed by territorial disputes and differing political realities.

He also discusses Croatia’s paradoxical stance, legal hurdles, and the gradual softening of attitudes from local authorities.

Beyond borders, Thomas highlights Liberland’s ambition to build a global libertarian community, attract supporters worldwide, and create real-world alternatives such as The Ark, a pioneering community project on the Serbian side of the Danube. Welcome to bonus episode number 4 of the Free Cities Podcast.

These bonus episodes are available exclusively to our subscribers on Fountain.fm, and I’ll be dropping them periodically throughout the year, especially during the weeks when subscribers already have early access to the current main episode.

.

Today’s bonus episode is a Plan B Hangout, in which Giacomo Zucco interviews me.

According to their website, Plan B Network “Aims to provide the best tools and educational content worldwide, empowering people to regain their sovereignty, from individuals to communities. We are here to help you along your Bitcoin journey.”

It’s an educational platform, and Giacomo himself is a bit of a Bitcoin OG, most people in the space know him. I’m currently in the process of writing an educational syllabus for Plan B Network about Free Cities - If you’re listening to this sometime in the future, check out their website at planb.network for the course.

Here’s a quick summary of today’s episode so you can decide whether or not to dive in:

"In this episode of the Plan B Hangout, Timothy Allen from the Free Cities Foundation discusses the concept of Free Cities, their evolution, and their intersection with Bitcoin and individual freedom. Key topics include the Free Cities Foundation, Prospera in Honduras, competition between governance models, sovereign individuals versus Free Cities, securing a Free City, the relationship between the Free Cities movement and Bitcoin, filtering out scammers and unrealistic projects. And finally, we talk about seasteading."

I didn’t know this beforehand, but Giacomo was actually a seasteader back in the day. I might have even rekindled his interest in it.

All in all, this should serve as a pretty solid overview of the current Free Cities space and its integration with Bitcoin.

Apologies in advance for my croaky voice and occasional shouting; I really need to work on my online interview game… and I will!

In this conversation we explore the bittersweet reality of living at a time when technological innovation and financial revolution coexist with growing surveillance and control.

From the UK’s Online Safety Act to digital IDs and the normalization of data collection, we unpack how our modern conveniences may be costing us more than we realize. Yet amid the concerns, you can find hope, in Bitcoin, in community, and in the power of individual action.

.

Where should I begin with this one? It is a very long episode—over three and a half hours in total—but as always, there is a reason for that.

.

A bit of background: in November 2022, I was in San Salvador speaking at Adopting BTC, a Bitcoin conference in El Salvador. At the opening party, I met a gentleman by the name of Jake Hamilton and we had a very interesting late conversation over dinner that struck a chord within me.

.

Later during the trip, I had a day off and reached out to him to ask if he would sit down and and have a conversation with me. Nothing was off the table; the plan was simply to start talking and see where it went. That is exactly what we did.

.

We began by discussing Urbit, a decentralized operating system that Jake is a developer for. That was my original reason for wanting to speak with him. However, the conversation quickly branched off into a huge range of topics.

.

When I edit these podcasts, I usually keep a running list of subjects we cover. By the end, it helps me get a clear picture of what we talked about and makes writing an episode description much easier. For this conversation, that list grew to more than sixty topics. To give you a sense of what you’re in for, we started with Urbit and moved on to digital nomadism, ethics, complex systems, artificial intelligence, the Akashic records, Bitcoin and time, Planck seconds, non-computational quantum physics, metaphysics, the origins of humans, the digital realm, religion, Christianity, simulation theory, the end of humanity, DMT, psychedelics and near-death experiences, fasting, spirituality, ketamine, spirit animals, sugar, proof of work, existential traps, narcissism, StarkNet, the Bitcoin circular economy, Bitcoin maximalism, the philosophy of Bitcoin, Bitcoin as monetary critique, digital aliens, the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto, Neuralink, conflict, and cultural patrimony. And that is only part of the list.

.

I even asked an AI to summarize it, and it came back with: “Urbit, Bitcoin, digital nomadism, effective altruism, and various aspects of technology, consciousness, and the future of humanity.” I prefer my own list.

.

This is exactly the kind of podcast I love to make, and I am very grateful to Jake for agreeing to do it. After all, he was just someone I met at a party. We had never met before, and I have not met him since. Yet he was incredibly generous with his time, sitting down with me for three and a half hours at their Urbit developer house in San Salvador.

.

I think this episode is a perfect bonus because it is quite technical and especially relevant to the Nostr community, the value-for-value community, and of course, Bitcoiners. It has essentially never been heard. I originally recorded it for a podcast I had just started at the time, but that project went nowhere because I launched this show a few weeks later. So this recording has been sitting untouched for a couple of years, just like the other episodes I will be releasing here.

.

If you want to follow Jake and hear more of his unique perspectives, you can find him on Twitter at his intriguing handle 36_72541890. He once explained the meaning of that number to me, but I have completely forgotten it, and even ChatGPT cannot figure it out.

.

Settle in for this one. You may really want to sit back and relax. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly did, and conversations like this are one of the reasons I get up in the morning.

.

Enjoy.

Liberland, Micronation, Liberty Island, Voluntary Taxation, Croatia Dispute, Smart Contract Constitution, Justin Sun, International Recognition, Free Republic

-

Timothy Allen speaks with Vít Jedlička.

Vít is the founder and president of the micronation Liberland.

This discussion spans the current development on Liberland, including building houses, pontoon structures, and tourist infrastructure on Liberty Island, as well as the ongoing territorial disputes with Croatia. Key themes include attempts at international recognition, the role of blockchain-based governance, the Liberland dollar, and the country’s constitution as a smart contract. Other topics explored are voluntary taxation, private property rights, flood-resistant construction, and the integration of e-residency and global financial systems.

The conversation highlights the broader struggle to create an alternative model of governance and economic freedom, balancing individual liberty and innovative legal frameworks in the face of external pressures and challenges.

Enjoy the conversation.
