With The Great Depression beginning, the Conservatives promised prompt action and voters took them up on it, sending the Liberals into the role of the Official Opposition.

When that failed, he asked the Governor General to dissolve Parliament, which was refused. This erupted into the King-Byng Affair, which then then triggered another election.
