  • The Elections: 1904

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1904 election would be all about the railroads, at least the proposal to bring in two new transcontinental railway. That election, the Laurier Liberals would cruise to the highest seat count in Canadian history to that point.

  • The Elections: 1900

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1900 election would be a quiet affair. The Laurier Liberals would cruise on the back of good economic times and little in the way of controversy to a large majority, while Charles Tupper would go through his final election.

  • The Elections: 1896

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1896 election would see the end of the Conservative Dynasty and the party would never again, at least to date, see the success it had seen in the 19th century. The Liberals, in contrast, rose to power and would remain in charge for 15 years.

  • The Elections: 1891

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1891 election was an important one, and a changing of the guard. It would be the last federal election for Sir John A. Macdonald, as he would die three months after the election. The Liberals also had a new leader, about to lead the party in his first of seven elections; Wilfrid Laurier.

  • The Elections: 1887

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1887 election was a quiet affair compared to previous elections, but there was still betting, some shady tactics and once again, Sir John A. Macdonald found himself leading the country after yet another election win.

  • The Elections: 1882

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1882 election was low-key by most standards. The Conservatives ran again on the National Policy, while the new leader of the Liberals Edward Blake did his best to make up ground in the election.

  • The Elections: 1878

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The 1878 election is called the first modern election in Canadian history. It was the election that saw the nationwide use of secret ballots, and it was the election that had Sir John A. running in three different ridings.

  • The Elections: 1867, 1872 and 1874

I am releasing 36 straight days of podcast episodes about every election in Canadian history in honour of the new election. For the subsequent episodes in that series, make sure to subscribe to From John to Justin. The first three elections in Canadian history were interesting affairs. Corruption, intimidation and shady tactics were par for the course as Canada found its footing as a new country.
