Austin is the founder of Jochum Strength. His aim is to coach athletes toward better problem solving abilities. He does this by masterfully creating environments that tilt more toward chaos than toward order.

What does an athlete do when they have control? Do they see the blank canvas? I enjoy watching the IG reels of his sessions and seeing the creativity his athletes are using. You can see the physicality but also the mental complexity and emotional control.

"True mentoring is helping a young athlete find their true identity."

This is a quote from our guest, Paul Cater. Coach is the owner and founder of Alpha Project Sport Science in Salinas, California. Before starting Alpha Project, Coach Cater spent time as a strength and conditioning coach with multiple professional rugby teams in Europe and then with the Baltimore Orioles. 

Coach is also pursuing his Doctorate in the Sport Science field. 

He speaks about the process of resurrection and how it requires a moment of "death," of maximum vulnerability and why we, as coaches, need to embody this cycle.

Using his experience working with the military, special ops, and professional athletes, he states that the most ELITE performers are ready and willing to enter this cycle, and he questions if the youth are being taken through this process. 

He also speaks about the drive for data and how it is removing the human experience from sport and from training and how that paradox will lead its demise. 

Coach is a true generalist and brings his strengths in history and art to the strength and conditioning profession, which I LOVE. 

We also talk about the environment an athlete needs to train in.. high ceilings, floor space, natural light and room to sprint. 

One of my favorite parts is when he talks about how he's learning how to be a better coach from his 4 year old and song birds.
