This is the guided Habit formation episode!
Below is the outline of the steps I cover in the episode
1) Write down whatever your goal is
2) Now spend 5 minutes writing about what kind of person you think could achieve this goal? What characteristics would they have? What kind of thoughts/beliefs would they have about it? About themselves? The world? What are some of their daily habits
You can use lists, bulliet points, journaling whatever.
3) Now think about yourself. Do you have any characteristics in common? Maybe sort of similar? Maybe totally opposite? Whatever your answers are its fine as long as they’re honest.
* Don’t use this as an opportunity to beat yourself up!*
4) Now look at one or two characteristics where you differ from the kind of person who could achieve your goals.
5) Now… think of invisalign. Yes, the teeth straightening system…Stay with me!
When you use invisalign they make a mold of your current teeth, how your teeth should be by the end and there are several different trays between that go from being like your old teeth to progressively more and more like your end game teeth.
6) So now, think of a step one tray equivalent habit you could adopt.
It shouldn’t be something thats going to take way more time or mental and physical energy that youre used to.
I think something that takes 5-15 minutes is a great start
Example- If you want to become an organized person and youre currently a fairly messy person, a good habit could be opening the mail everyday as soon as your bring it in and putting it away instead of leaving it in piles around the kitchen
The last half of the podcast I discuss the four laws of habit formation. I recommend checking that out for tips to help your good habits stick and to make bad habits become easier to quit.
Miranda and I have now been doing our habits for one week! We chat about the benefits from our starting habits, the challenges we experienced with the stopping habits and how the micro habits have actually been having a larger impact than expected!

In this episode I discuss how three seemingly helpful beliefs I had were unconsciously causing me a lot of stress and how you might have some beliefs doing the same to you! We all receive so much conflicting information about how to live; you should get 8 hours of sleep/ you don't actually need 8 hours, Live with purpose and pursue your goals/ Let go and go with the flow, intermittent fasting is great for you/intermittent fasting is horrible for you etc. etc. But sometimes, because we have something like 60,000 thoughts a day (and a belief is just a thought you keep thinking that feels objectively true to you) we often have conflicting beliefs knocking around in our head causing us stress! So what should you do?! Listen to this episode!
Also my coaching website is up and running and I am currently accepting new 1 on 1 clients! If you work for yourself as an artist or entrepreneur and you're struggling with procrastination, productivity or motivation I highly recommend going to emilyburnscoaching.com to schedule a free consultation call!
In this short episode I share an anti-procrastination technique that can remove the emotional resistance that leads to the procrastination in the first place. I used to use it when cleaning my room as a kid but I recently began using it on work related tasks and I gotta say, it's been pretty helpful!
