When you are called by God, that doesn’t mean your path will be free of complications. Sharon Langfeldt found this out when she was told by a superintendent, she could pursue her calling, but should take the, ”don’t ask don;t tell” approach. Later, she was advised to change denominations due to the climate of division in her Methodist faith. Sharon is an amazing testimony to pushing against the norm with grace and spice! Reverend Dawn Bennett has been described as a #holyhellion and is self described as, ”a brat,” who has also been called to live out loud as a Bisexual Minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America! She was raised Catholic and is a mom to three grown children, has three grand kids and is creating space for everyone where she ministers at The Table Nashville.

Why go deeper with Rev. Michael J. Crumpler? Because he says, regarding his own experience, ”My coming out, it got worse before it got better.” Start with ”I was a good boy,” and add getting caught up in the freedom of being out, proud, and not having to lie anymore. Michael found himself in a dangerous dance with Crystal Meth and sex parties. He spent 2 1/2 years of disconnect with his own life until he was given the opportunity to go home and live with his sister. ”Before she lost her life, she saved mine.”

Rev. Michael J. Crumpler has a story to tell! Not only because he survived living as an African American male in the South, but because he has also survived bullying, abuse, the Air Force, a very elite White Evangelical college, and the coming out process as a married man. His life has been far from perfect, and it has also been surrounded by love, a God Family, and the ability to pivot and keep moving forward! This is Part One of an amazing story! Dale Lykins ministered in the United Methodist Church as a Pastor for 30 years. He had always lived his life with something he referred to as, ”my struggle.” That struggle would be something that Dale prayed about, told his Fiancé about, and went into counseling for throughout his lifetime. He openly denied that he was gay to anyone who asked, because, ”I never had a thought that I was gay.” Then, watching a movie on television with his wife about a young boy’s struggle to come out as Gay, Dale began to identify deeply with his story. When the show was over, Dale was in tears. His amazing wife, didn’t ask, she said, ”You really are gay.... aren’t you.” That was the beginning ..... and today.... Nathan Hall says, ”Church has always been very important and precious to me,” and then he was outed in front of his wife, shamed, and kicked out of his beloved church for following gay men on FaceBook. He went into a dark and scary time where he left the church, was angry, devastated, and was in a psychological crisis. Suicidal ideation crept in, and then, through his doubts, questions, and pain....he realized God was still there. His experiences have brought him to a place of understanding and grace. He is learning to open his heart and accept his hurt to get to his healing.
