    Publisher's Summary:
There could be two sides to Maja Norberg that shift silently like quicksand: the question is, which one do you believe?
Is Maja a normal 18-year-old, the poster girl next door, popular and excelling at her schoolwork, caught in the middle of a terrible tragedy? Or is she the most reviled teenager in the country?
Either way, everyone knows her name. She has spent nine excruciating months in jail, awaiting trial for a mass murder that killed her boyfriend and her best friend, and now the time has come for her to enter the courtroom. What did she do? Or is it what she didn't do that brought her here?
Is Maja a cold-blooded murderer, or is she just a girl who has lost her way and, as a consequence, now lost the ones she loved?
    Members Reviews:
    Cruel intentions?
After participating in a school shooting tragedy that leaves her boyfriend, best friend, several other students and a teacher dead, Maja Norberg has spent the past nine months in custody awaiting trial. When "Quick Sand," opens, she is meeting with her legal team, prior to entering the courtroom. Although Maja's loving but seriously out-of-touch family has literally hired the best trial lawyer in Sweden, Maja, who is whip smart though she tries to hide it with her peers, grasps what's at stake. Since she's rich and privileged, which has already been confirmed via the media, and doesn't come from a broken home, Maja knows that the jurors will have less sympathy for her situation, regardless of what she tells them. In fact, she herself is ambivalent about how "guilty" she is. After all, thanks to her, her longtime best friend is dead, and her boyfriend, Sebastian's father, a billionaire who is severely abusive to his younger son, is also dead, although she is secretly glad about the latter. Moving back and forth in time, Maja details for the reader the events leading up to the crime, portraying Sebastian as both mentally ill and using drugs, not to mention abusive toward Maja herself. Increasingly isolated as her parents expect her to have the maturity to deal with her boyfriend's issues on her own, Maja struggles to decide whether to leave or stay as Sebastian's condition worsens, and she finds herself attracted to another classmate. Now the time has come for Maja to tell her side of the story to the public and for them (and the reader) to decide her verdict.
Thoughts: The author is a lawyer, as well, whose knowledge and practical experience shine through. On the other hand, there is a lot of legalese which sometimes slows down the narrative. The narrator herself is not always likeable, but her insights into everyone around her make her intriguing. One of the themes of the book is how the temptation to stereotype teens (and people in general) make it easy to miss obvious signs of crisis. Other subjects discussed include immigration; at one point, a character gives a speech that sounds as if she is a mouthpiece for the author's own views. Overall, this was a page turner which had important things to say about today's youth and the topics affecting them.
    Interesting setup, slow execution
Others have summarized the plot very well -- Maja is an 18-year-old high school student in prison and on trial for her part in a school shooting that killed her boyfriend, her best friend, and three others.

    Publisher's Summary:
William Watt wants answers about his family's murder. Peter Manuel has them. But Peter Manuel is a liar.
William Watt is an ordinary businessman, a fool, a social climber.
Peter Manuel is a famous liar, a rapist, a criminal. He claims he can get hold of the gun used to murder Watt's family.
One December night in 1957, Watt meets Manuel in a Glasgow bar to find out what he knows.
Based on true events, The Long Drop is an extraordinarily unsettling, evocative and compelling novel from a writer at the height of her powers.

    Couldn't stop listening
What did you like most about The Long Drop?
    The narrator is brilliant.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Isabelle Cook's dad's evidence in the dock.
    Any additional comments?
Never sure if I agree with mixing true facts with fiction. The fictionalised version tends to get established as 'fact' along with the rest. So, in this version, Watt is guilty of arranging his family's murder, whether that's true or not. I am also not sure how much of Manuel's parents' stories/characters were true, and how much made up. That aside, this is an addictive listen and an insight into a time and place.

    Publisher's Summary:
During military exercises in the Sea of Japan, rogue missiles fire off from a US naval battleship and head directly to the heart of North Korea.
During a return trip to Washington, D.C., Air Force Two disappears over the Rocky Mountains.
President Jack Meacham was once the former director of the CIA who was instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet regime. Now, nearly three decades later, his past comes back to haunt him with a single message: "Are you willing to sacrifice your life for the good of the whole?"
The volley of missiles and the disappearance of Air Force Two were mere flexes of muscle from one man who wields the Black Key, a tool that is capable of controlling nuclear arsenals and weaponry systems. It can control and manipulate economies. And it could be the most damning weapon the world has ever seen with a simple push of a button.
Forced to make a choice, the president finds himself at odds with a former operative who seeks to end his life with a single twist of the Black Key. In the most dangerous game in the world, President Meacham is given two options: "You have 48 hours to end your life for the greater good of the whole...or the United States will become a no-man's land for thousands of years to come."
With time winding down, the president turns to Jon Jericho, a.k.a. The Hunter, and his Special Operations Group, to locate and neutralize the man behind the Black Key. But the team quickly find themselves going up against a sophisticated military unit who protects the man behind the Key.
With the fate of the president and an entire nation hanging in the balance of five men, Jon Jericho and his team must stop a man who has the capability to wipe out an entire superpower with a single turn of a key.
If Jericho's team fails, then the president must face two critical choices: Do I live and allow the United States to be destroyed? Or do I kill myself for the greater good of the whole?
    The clock is ticking.
    And it's almost zero hour.

    Justification for Necessary Evil?
Why do governments get to explain their immoral actions as necessary evil? In "The Black Key", the Author, Rick Jones, lays out a fascinating situation in which the head of the CIA, Jack Meacham, sacrifices one for the good of many. This bites him in the ass in more ways than one!
This novel of political suspense and intrigue is clever, imaginative, and terrifying! The special "Black Ops" team run by John (Jon) Jericho is an amazing group of former SEAL's, Delta Force, and Rangers, and are the hunters called upon often by the President to save the nation. The antagonist in this storyline is unbelievably depraved, maybe from torture, despair, and an overwhelming need for revenge?
The emotions the author is able to bring forth vary from unease to family-time feel-good. Surprises and lots of action make this an engrossing and intriguing read!
Two thumps up, way up for this one
Another great read by Jones. Spoiler alert.
This one starts in 1989 USSR.
Grigori Durov works for the KGB. He is also a double agent working for America.
Durov meets his American contact, William Janzski, known as the Red Disciple, who works for the CIA. Unknown to either man they have been betrayed.
This betrayal will end with Durov killing himself as he's about to be arrested by the KGB and Janzski being taken prisoner, tortured and leaking info the KGB.

    Language: English
    Release date: 01-24-17
    Publisher: Ironclad Bindings

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
What secret could destroy the world andwould you let it out?
"Dean Kutzler's Brownstone is a tense thriller, wrapping history, religious fervor and ever-present danger in a cloak of psychological suspense. It will have you turning pages deep into the night." - Graham Brown - bestselling author of The Eden Prophecy
The key to the world's fate discovers a devastating secret that has been divinely hidden since the days of Genesis. As the centuries passed, what was once common knowledge of our ancient origins became purposefully hidden within the lies of clergy.
Jack Elliot - a journalist, living in Montréal - returns to his hometown of New York City to pay respect to his dying uncle. Jack soon learns foul play is at hand when he finally gets to visit dear Uncle Terry. The poor man has had a severe stroke, and, is struggling to talk to his favorite nephew.
Or, at least, that, is what Jack thinks.
Uncle Terry wasn't struggling to talk to Jack, and, what happens next, sends Jack spiraling down a web of mystery. He gets more than he bargained for, on his trip home, when he finds himself entrenched in not one, but, two, murder cases, where he's the prime suspect.
What Jack doesn't know is that amidst all the murder, an organization created at the beginning of time has been patiently waiting for him to...ripen! They have big plans for Jack in this mystery and suspense filled book - plans that are tied back to the very beginning of mankind - and, if they find him, the world will be immeasurably changed most certainly not for the better.
Brownstone is loaded with plot twist and resonates heavily with such thriller books in the tradition of James Rollins and Sigma Force, Dan Brown and the Robert Langdon Series, and Clive Cussler with the Dirk Pitt Adventures. Brownstone challenges the very core beliefs each of us holds, deep down inside, questioning the very fabric of our existence.
    Members Reviews:
    Well-crafted and thought-provoking.
For readers who enjoyed "The Da Vinci Code," Brownstone is sure to delight. Jack Elliott is a journalist who unwittingly becomes the target of an ancient covert religious order. Tripping through present-day New York City, he uncovers evidence of a centuries-old coverup that could rock the foundations of Christianity. He also learns of dark family secrets which cause him to question many of his beliefs. And all the while, he's being hunted down like prey.
The beginning moved a little slowly for my taste, but it picked up speed before midway through. The ending left me feeling satisfied, whilst setting the stage for the next installment (which I'm yearning to begin). Narrator, Tom Lennon, does a marvelous job here. There were a couple of mispronounced words (such as "carotid"), but in no way did they affect the context or my understanding of the story. I increased the narration speed to 1.05%. Overall, very well done!
I received a promotional copy of this audiobook for free in exchange for an unbiased review. Many thanks to the narrator for this opportunity!
    Jack and the Bene Elohim
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Probably not, but only because the mystery books I like my friends often dont. Everyone is comparing this to Dan Browns book and while I did read that, I did it begrudgingly.

Not one of Barnard's best. The fight scene near the end was ridiculous and boring.

Narration good, story awful with no mystery to crime story, author's knowledge woeful :-( waste of time and money I really fail to understand the great reviews.

    Fascinating short story!
This is my first book by British detective novel author Adam Croft (who also narrates). The protagonist (well maybe he's not really a protagonist) is Stephen Lightfoot who works as a clerk at Tesco (Britain's huge supermarket chain). The story is very, very weird; its so weird that it is strangely endearing. It is worth the $1.99 I paid. I plan to try some of Croft's higher rated novels.
    Gone
Enjoyed this novella so much, didn't guess the ending, didn't want it to end. excellent narration as well.
    A great short story
A really good short story with a good twist. Narration was excellent.
    One of my fave authors
    Great short story
Won this free book courtesy of the author. Plugged into the car and listened to it commuting to work. Got home just as the drawer was opened but don't worry won't spoil it for you and just had to listen to this last 15 mins. Had me in suspense as to what the main character had been up to. It didn't disappoint at the end.
Ideal read if you just want a short story as it's just about an hour.
The author is really keen to get his work known and regularly contacts his readers via the VIP club. It's great to have that contact with an author !
    loved it
An excellent enjoyable short storey. read by the writer extremely well.
Definitely keeping an eye out for more.

I had no problem visualizing the characters...
Great collection of short stories all in one paperback which tell the tale of a very sick girl who needs to live before she dies. Lots of twists & turns as only John Gilstrap could put on paper. It's written in a very fast paced manner where one just cannot put the book down for too long. "I need to know what's going to happen next!" was a common phrase for me while reading this book. I think it's interesting that both my wife & I enjoyed the book immensely and typically don't even read the same kind of books. Honestly, I think this story would make a really good movie if anyone would pick it up! I had no problem visualizing the characters as I was reading the book.
    Buy them all!
Mr. Gilstrap was new to me, but since reading this book, Iâve purchased and have read almost everyone. His characters are complex, as is his storyline and mystery! I highly recommend this book and everything heâs written.
    This author is great!
John Gilstrap is fabulous. I can't put his books down.
    Wonderful book
This book is so unlike Gilstrap's other books. The story grabs you right up front and doesn't let you go.

    Loved the book!

    Great book!
After I listened to the first book Empty Vessel, I could hardly wait for the second installment! These are great books written in the golden age style. I love the descriptive style of Ms Marina writing. Her characters are charming and the mysteries are intriguing. They keep you guessing all the way to the end. I also like the very real mentoring relationship between Bartlett and Boase. The characters are portrayed in such a way you wonder how there lives go forward. You just can't help yourself. I just found the third book and hope it will soon be recorded. These are just wonderful to listen to in the car.
