Less than OK and bad narration..
OK, this was as good as the first one, as far as excitement goes, and Allie kicked some butt in this book, too, but I was hoping the narration would be better, it wasnt.
I lost track of how many bad guys Allie killed and I was left confused at the end of the book. There was only Dan and the other bad guy left at the house and he was yelling at Allie to just give him the girl, Lucy. Because the money had been put in Lucys name and she was the only one who could touch, and then he drove away when Allie didnt answer him. Allie found him in Croatia seven months later and demanded the remainder of the money? What? How did he get the 80 million if he never got Lucy?
Anyway, this wasnt as good as the first book so I doubt Ill move on the third book.
There was swearing in this book and the F-bomb was used 29 times.
As to the narrator? No offence, but he sucked. The only emotion that isnt used that should be used is whispering. When youre in the woods and the bad guys are looking for you and you have no idea where they are you whisper when you talk to each other, if you talk at all. You DO NOT talk in a regular voice AND when the book calls for a whisper you whisper. In these two books Ive had my fill of Joshua Reiniger. He has a nice voice but hes no narrator. He doesnt do what the book calls for and his women sound just like men.

Indiana Jones type adventure PLUS Robert Langton in Dan Brown's books. I look forward to Lang' s next adventure.
A story in search of an editor
What disappointed you about The Julian Secret?
Too many unpleasant sophomoric asides, dumb errors (French, Spanish, German are not "European dialects"), cliches. He is a former CIA agent but can't figure out how to use Send for email? There was a story somewhere but it was hidden in all the dumb useless words. Even at 1.99, not a good buy.

    Twisty!
This mystery is like peeling an onion, the layers just keep uncovering more and more of the past and it all impacts the present. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers here. This series is compelling, suspenseful, and yet has plenty of humor. I have enjoyed every one that I've read and can't pick a favorite.
I prefer audio and Michelle Babb is great!
    Great Story and Great Narration!
Darcy and Flora are at it again. Blanche Day Manos has once again crafted a well balanced story. The characters are well rounded and grow more and more with each book. The plot is fantastic and keeps you interested to the end. Michelle Babb is the most fantastic narrator and her interpretation of Darcy and Flora is spot on. She brings the story to life. Manos and Babb make a great team. A must listen that you will highly enjoy.
    Great Listen!
I so love these characters. This is the 3rd book in the series by Blanche Day Manos. It can be listened as a standalone, but has references to events from the previous stories and characters. Michelle Babb did a great job with the various voices and was able to get great emotion into the characters. I found the subtle humor a plus. This story was great, and I loved some of the unexpected twists. Also, I liked that the author kept the details consistent from previous stories. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.
A winner of a Cozy ..Just Great
A cozy mystery that gives the listener just about anything they might want. Old familiar friends and family are back along with several new characters. We get murder, suspense , romance, things that vanish, other things that go bump in the night. Toss in nasty weather, people from the past and serve with pie and coffee for an entertaining listen! I can't wait to see what comes next.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

    Dane and Bones Orgins!
Amber was a fast paced story that weaves action, suspense, and some real elements of history into an dangerous adventure. I really liked the story had elements of truth because it made the story believable. After I finished the book, I actually researched the Amber Room to learn more about it.
I've listened to several audiobooks narrated by Jeffrey Kafer, and as always, he did a great job!
Anyone who loves a good mystery mixed with elements of truth, will definitely want to consider listening to these series.
"I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom dot com."
    Near-Perfect Adventure Fiction
David Wood and Rick Chesler team up to write another Dane and Bones adventure. This one takes us to unexpected areas in search of a lost room of amber said to have been lost forever. Along the way, they will face off against Russians who are searching for other artifacts related to the Amber Room.
The narration of Amber was done by Jeffrey Kafer. What can I say here that I havent said in other reviews? Jeffrey Kafer is a master. He has perfected his craft and is absolutely perfect for this novel.
Amber was a non-stop adventure book with little to no time to breathe. Wood & Chesler really had their feet on the gas for this book tidying it into under 6 hours for the audiobook. I promise you, you will not feel gipped with the length of the book. There is so much going on here it took me a day to wrap my head around it.
Ive read one of the Dane & Bones books (and reviewed it recently). My first thoughts upon finishing it were where can I get more? Well, I found more (Id already had this in my backlog and had forgotten about it). Well, after finishing this, I still thought the exact same thing. I need to start reading the Dane & Bones books in order now!
Wood & Chesler really took a premise that could be real and added a ton of stuff into it that made it feel like non-fiction. The stories and history around each event and each area they research had a realism that you cant fake (or isnt easy to fake).
Also, giant freaking wolves terrifying. I wont go into it for fear of spoiling anything. But, wow.
Overall, Amber was another fun and fast-paced adventure book in the Dane & Bones world. I will definitely be looking for more books in this series.
I received a free copy of this book. It has not affected my review in any way.

    Members Reviews:
    Good But Normal
Its a pretty decent listen. It is your basic zombie story. Some of the characters were annoying. The fact that an entire group just wondered the woods instead of finding a place to stay and be safe and collect food etc was annoying. Overall it did keep my attention so not bad but there are better zombie stories out there.
    just terrible
What would have made Dead Soil better?
a plot. some action. some reason to keep listening.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Evan Harris?
the narration was second rate but not bad.
What character would you cut from Dead Soil?
all of them. make it only about the two in the apartment.
    Any additional comments?
a boring shadow of a zombie book. booo
A disjointed collection of ill prepared snippets
Would you try another book from Alex Apostol and/or Evan Harris?
Maybe in a decade as they develop their craft.
Has Dead Soil turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I like the zombie genre. It is not really believable genre after all it is that zombie apocalypse. But there are some norms of human behavior like the laws of physics that cannot be ignored. The author seems to create situations out of thin air and dropped them into an story lone with mile wide gaps.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dead Soil?
Start with the survivors whom are being tracked by a horde of zombies after surviving in the woods and winter of northern Indiana. They seek shelter in a retail ln store to allow the horde to pass. Surely they have learned the advantage of remaining in doors and quiet until the horde passes. Yet the author creates a conflict between the current leader and a former Marine Colonel because the leader wishes to not allow one of the group to hang outside for a smoke. I found myself shouting that of course a former Marine let alone a Marine colonel could appreciate the essential need for quiet. Certainly any group on the run for six months would understand that imperative.
It is not just one incident but multiple times I could not square the actions of the characters to any coherent plot line. He just made up situations with far too many inconsistencies.
Found myself frustrated by the glaring holes in the story.

I'm 7.5 hours in, and I'm not sure I can finish...
Of course I normally finish a book before writing a review, but I'm just not sure I can. I am currently 7 and a half hours in to this 10 and a half hour story... only 3 hours to go... but...
The characters are so unlikable and the narration is often cringe worthy (especially when the narrator of Eve does an American accent). I find that although I want to know how it ends, ( which is the only reason I gave it the two stars I did instead of returning it) I get so agitated listening to the story of these two women that I can hardly wait for it to be over. There is no one to cheer for, because this far in, I still don't like the characters or the book.
***Update: I made myself finish it, but for me, it never got better. Definitely a wasted credit, and worse than a waste of time, because it was irritating as well.
    5 stars really enjoyed
Gave 5 stars because the story was interesting and held my interest from the start. I really enjoyed the narrators/performers. Their accents of England and Ireland enhanced the story. I recommend the book because of these reasons.
    Brilliant & Gripping
Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and highly recommend it. Narration was superb and story was so gripping I couldn't wait to get back to it every day.
    Top Class Grip-Lit
Would you listen to Sisters and Lies again? Why?
Not especially because I know the outcome now.
What did you like best about this story?
Good characters and a twisty plot
What about Caroline Lennon and Marcella Riordan s performance did you like?
Very good. Felt like the really were the characters
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me smile in places with the wit and tense up in other places with suspense.
    Any additional comments?
    Really enjoyed it.
    I enjoyed this
I will definitely look out for other books by this author. The story had good pace and the narration was clear.

    Members Reviews:
    Another unbelievable female hero
The story line is quite good but unfortunately the author has done what seems like every other author of late has done - gone for a story that has the main character as a super woman. The flood of books with female characters that are penned as invincible heroes while still exhibiting the purest of female qualities is just plain tedious and starting to become rather predictable if not intellectually painful. Bottom line - the main (unbelievable) character got in the way of what could have been a decent original plot.
    Not usual Harlan Coben
Would you try another book written by Harlan Coben or narrated by January LaVoy?
    Yes
If youve listened to books by Harlan Coben before, how does this one compare?
    DIsappointing
What about January LaVoys performance did you like?
She reads well in a way that makes no difference whether she is a man or a woman
Was Fool Me Once worth the listening time?
    Up to a point
    Any additional comments?
I was disappointed. I usually like HC's books a lot but I could not care about this woman. I don't like characters who continually refuse to answer others' questions or explain themselves. I did enjoy the reference to Win Lockwood from the Myron Bolitar books
    Unraveling instead of reveling
The first female main character in a Harlan Coben is a bit of a cheat, apart from being described as female all else in her life is basically a male action hero prototype, military helicopter pilot, ptsd, gun fanatic, ace shooter and a loner that asks for no help and explains very little.
She is frequently complimented on her beauty but she shows no interest in any of the male characters except for a very brief description of how she met her husband.
Do not expect to discover, or figure out the secret because you do not have all the cards Mr Coben is holding the entire deck. The other thing this is not even remotely is a procedural, it has the most ridiculous lineup of suspects in a precinct I have ever experienced in writing or movie, very much unacceptable at his level of writing or writer.
If you read it fast and ask no questions or think for too long you may get some enjoyment out of this story otherwise not good enough.
    Terrible
I have read many of this author's books and have generally found them decent whodunnits, good for some escapism. This book, however, is shockingly bad. Poor characterisation, laughably unrealistic twists, and a weak "good versus evil" plot. Don't waste your time on this one.
The first 70mins was torture enough
Be warned this is nothing like as easy a read as the rest of the author's output
The extremely slow pace coupled with an extremely American subject - a woman who has had to leave the forces because of a video A woman whose sister and now her husband have been killed A woman who has nothing in common with the other suburban moms
A woman who flexes her hands to make sure she doesn't overstep the mark and "attack the soccer coach"
Oh and in the background there may be the start of a plot - a red car may be following her
Couldnt last any longer to find out
    Good luck with this one
