Was he responsible for the experiment? Are his notes in the hands of enemies? As Cabrillo races to unearth the truth, he discovers that the stakes are dangerously high - but it may already be too late....

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 19 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Six-time Hugo winner Ben Bova brings us a gripping political thriller on the cutting edge of science and technology.
Dr. Jake Ross came to Washington to make a difference. As the science advisor to a newly elected freshman senator, Jake has crafted a comprehensive energy plan that employs innovative new technologies to make America the world's leader in energy production while simultaneously boosting the economy and protecting the environment. The facts - and the science - are on Jake's side, but his plan soon runs afoul of entrenched special interests, well-funded lobbies, cynical bureaucrats, pork-barrel politics, and one very powerful US senator.
To keep his plan alive and secure a sustainable future for America, Jake needs a crash course in the way Washington really works. Everyone keeps telling him that his plan has no hope of succeeding, but Jake is determined to prove them wrong even if it kills him...something that certain hostile parties may be all too happy to arrange.

Another Fine Story From Ben Bova
Ben Bova has written a fast-paced political thriller. Jake Ross has come to Washington as the science advisor to newly elected Senator B. Franklin Tomlinson. Jake wants the Senator to embrace his energy plan that will hopefully make the United States energy independent. But things are never easy.
Soon, Jake is realizing that life in politics is a cutthroat game of favors, shady deals, and misinterpretation. He must sell his plan not only to Tomlinson, but to other Senate members as well, including one who is hiding a secret that could blow everything that Jake has worked for sky high. Along the way, Jake meets a few allies, including Tami, who becomes his voice of reason. As the story goes along, events begin to move at a fast pace. Will Jake succeed in getting the energy plan passed, or will others see to it that his plan, and Jake himself, don't see the light of day?
Ben Bova is a science fiction master who has written dozens of novels about space and political issues, and "Power Play" fits nicely in to his collection. The story is fast-paced, and the characters are well-developed. I hope a sequel is in the works. Highly recommended.
    Another Winner for Ben Bova
Mr. Bova continues to gently remind us of the problems that will be facing humanity in the not too distant future. He provides ideas for solutions without beating us over the head. If you go back to his earlier volumes, you will find this is a theme he has put forth consistently. Unfortunately, I don't think we're catching on - at least not with any great concern or speed.
    great read
love the quick pace and portrayal of characters. it was a little thin in spots but wonderful read. look forward to the next installment if any
    Disappointing
I really wanted to write a good review. I enjoy Ben Bovaâs Sci-Fi books; read them all. However, this book was neither Sci-Fi nor enjoyable for me. I kept asking myself, âwhen is the Sci-Fi coming?â It didnât. If you like Washington, DC political insider stuff, this book is for you. I donât. The book seemed to be about the main character trying to satisfy his ego. Funny, at the end I disliked the hero and felt sorry for the villains! Ben, stick to what you do best ... Sci-Fi!
A fast paced political thriller concerning climate change!
Dr. Jake Ross has been concerned with climate change his whole life.

    Fascinating
This wasn't what I expected at all after listening to the first couple of hours but once it turned into scifi, I wasn't able to stop until the book ended!

False Flag is by far one of the best thrillers that I have came across all year." (Amazon reviewer Manchester)
"This genre usually does not captivate me, but this book did. Great plot, the writing style puts the reader dead center in the sweat, the moods, action and fear. I have been in and out of Asia many times and this book took me back without the cost of a plane ticket and was a heck of a lot more entertaining than a long plane ride. Great book!" (Brad Hayes)
"Very well depicted scenery and awesome character depth. A quick read, a brilliant plot, and a wonderfully well written story." (IABook Reviews)

    Great action
Another brilliant thriller/mystery from Jay Tinsiano. Great kickoff to this series. Lots of action this one kept me hooked. I liked Pandora Red better but this was pretty good too.
The narrator gave a good performance.
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
    Movie script quality!!
Both Mr. Tinsiano and Mr. MacDonnell are masters at their respective crafts! This is the second book that I've enjoyed with this duo. An international conspiracy thriller that will leave you hesitant to press the pause button on your Audible app.
The author does an incredible job creating the relationship between the characters of the story and the reader/ listener. The narrator's portrayal of all the characters and his ability to change accents and voice pitch allows a truly believable performance that leaves little to be desired.
If you're looking to start a series that keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very end, I'd definitely give this book!
*This book was provided at no cost to me by author, narrator, or publisher for an unbiased review.
    Engaging story and great narration!
If you could sum up False Flag in three words, what would they be?
A well written and suspenseful story, with a lot of twists right from the start.
While I enjoyed the story, what impressed me most was the narration. CHRIS MACDONNEL does a wonderful job and most definitely enriches the experience of listening to the audiobook. He is great across all the characters, seamlessly transitioning from one to the other.
A Good Twisty New Thriller Series
FALSE FLAG was a good start for a new thriller. Right out of the gate this book was energetic. It had a good storyline with a great character in Frank Bowen. He's on vacation and suddenly he's in a whirlwind of trouble and doesn't know how or why until he thinks someone switched his luggage. A bomb went off and all hell broke loose.
I really like the character of Frank and can see plenty of room for more of a back story with him in the future installments of the series. The supporting characters were good but not as well-defined.

I loved this book, couldn't wait for the next chapter. Great how it carried on from the previous book. The excellent narration brought the story to life, keeping the listener engaged all the time. Can't wait for the next novel from this author.
    Maureen o donnell is brilliant!
Just wanted to say that the narration of the various characters was top notch.
Story was a bit mixed up in places - probably clearer in just reading the book.

    STRAIGHT OUT INTO HELL
    A Lot of Telling
I am a fan of Robinson, see my reviews of Island 731 and Project 731. I am presently listening to Second World and expect to write a glowing review early next week. This book, not so much. It is advertise as book 1 of Deep Blue, but it is also book 3.6 of Chess Team. I am not sure what the difference is, but I felt lost throughout most of the story. I was not even sure who was the good guys and who were the bad guys. In a book of a little over 3 hours, the first 45 minutes is spent catching you up, which means lots of telling and no showing. It sounded like I missed a good book, as the previous had lots of mythological creatures but this book had GIANT SALAMANDERS. Given, these salamanders are about seven feet long, similar to alligators, but still, salamanders? What next, giant bunny rabbits? Several phrases were used evidently to impress us. I know nothing about dirt bikes, but evidently HDT dirt bikes are better than others. Many times a dirt bike is used, but it is never just a dirt bike, it is always a HDT dirt bike. That is just one example.
P.S. Read the other reviews. Did Mani copy off of Allenby or is somebody giving out talking points?
Classic military incursion novel with a twist
Would you consider the audio edition of Callsign to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the original in print.
What other book might you compare Callsign to and why?
It's like all the Sec-Op books but not in this case because they are fighting men and monsters.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The man and woman were base jumping in the dark tunnel when one of the "things" dropped onto the man's chute and he in turn dropped on the lady and they hit the floor with the "Thing" under them and she got up and forgot to tell him what was under him. I could just see his face when he found what he was lying on!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not really, I wanted to savor it over a couple of nights. Sort of like a bedtime story.

    WOW
Where does Severed Threads rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I was asked to read Severed Threads and give and honest review. The title is currently on Kindle Unlimited and with and Audible upgrade of $1.99, I jumped on it.
This is the first novel Ive read/listened to by Kayline McFarren, and I just have to say is WOW! There was so much action at every turn I was on the edge of my seat! When I thought the story was going to go one way, NOPE, it redirected and completely went another. It was brilliantly fantastic! I loved everything about it; I am moving on to the next on ASAP. I just have to note that John Jaret as a narrator, superb. I kept thinking there had to be a female narrating Rachel Lyons character, no, just John.
Severed Threads is and incredibly fast paced treasure hunting adventure that will keep you on the edge of you seat from the first page. Throw in a little romance, drug dealers, ghosts, ship wreaks and a plot for revenge and it leaves you in a constant state of anticipation, waiting for the next chapter. I absolutely loved it and give Severed Threads 5 Boundless Stars....Sara
Great opening story for the Threads series
Would you consider the audio edition of Severed Threads to be better than the print version?
I liked them both, but it's fun to hear the characters come alive.
What did you like best about this story?
The on again off again romance between Chase and Rachel and the danger they encounter.
Have you listened to any of John Jarets other performances before? How does this one compare?
I believe this one was my favorite.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Rachel has a chance encounter with her death father.
    Any additional comments?
    Readers will love this series.

Typical Kellerman... but a bit slow moving
it was interesting to have Decker in a new environment and some interesting new characters were introduced... mainly McAdams.....as well as a catch up the long running support characters.
the story itself all about art forgeries and Russian/ American relations dragged at times. the final denouement seemed a bit of a cop out too. I have read better Kellerman detective novels but I did finish it.

good story line but very disappointing all parts were not secured before release of part 1 money should be refunded

On the Irish border, Inspector Celcius Daly investigates human trafficking and a scorched corpse.
The border between Northern Ireland and the Republic is a rugged place: cold, windswept, and dark. For the girls brought here from Eastern Europe, it may as well be a war zone. Put to work in a farmhouse brothel near Dunmore, the women are forced into a living hell. One night, a pimp takes one of them for a ride. She is just planning her escape when the car explodes. The next morning, there is nothing left but the pimps charred body and the womans footprints in the snow. As his forensics specialists turn their attention to the burned corpse, Police Inspector Celcius Daly obsesses over the footprints. Where exactly did the woman come from, and where did she go? It is the sort of question asked only in the borderlands - between North and South, between life and death.

    One Star
Kept waiting for it to get "good" and was disappointed. Never got :good" finally skipped the las 4 chapters....sorry.
    Boring
Boring read. Slow is good for turtles, not for good books. Would not recommend this one. Not happy with this selection.
A terrific read which improves on its predecessor
Inspector Celcius Daly was introduced to readers a year ago in Anthony Quinnâs debut novel "Disappeared". I enjoyed the book tremendously, and in particular liked the character of Celcius Daly: a hard-working, honest Catholic cop in a Protestant land, trying his hardest to ensure that justice prevails in a world that seems dead-set against him. And so I have been eagerly looking forward to Celcius Dalyâs return in Anthony Quinnâs "Border Angels", in which Dalyâs doggedness and honesty get him into serious trouble...
You see, it all revolves around Lena Novak, a Croatian woman who was forced into a prostitution ring by the ruthless Jozef Mikolajek. While on the job, she met a man named Jack Fowler who took pity on her. He decided to become her knight in shining armour and to rescue her from Mikolajekâs brothel. But a few weeks later, the fairy tale has taken a dark turn. Jack, responsible for some dirty tricks with money that doesnât belong to him, is found floating in his swimming pool, quite dead. Suicide is possible, but Daly isnât quite convinced. And Lenaâs photograph is found by the body, but the girl herself is nowhere to be foundâ
Thatâs all I dare reveal about the plot. Although I highly enjoyed "Disappeared", I had some gripes about the plot construction. Iâm happy to report that "Border Angels" is written with a more confident and experienced hand, and it has learned from the missteps its predecessor made. "Border Angels" is more personal, more vivid, and this time around, the plot construction has improved and the ending is genuinely surprising.
The quality of the writing is simply superb; Quinn can plant a vivid image in your mind, be it the middle of a chase scene or a quiet moment of description:
"His features moved in spasms, fragments without any connection to whatever thoughts and emotions worked their way through his brain."
And this wonât surprise anyone, but I really like the character of Celcius Daly. We get some more details about his personal life in this novel, and how his ten-year marriage failed despite his best efforts.
