    dull
Would you try another book from Jacqueline Druga and/or Gene Blake?
I would try another book from Jacqueline Druga but not Gene Blake
Would you ever listen to anything by Jacqueline Druga again?
    Maybe
How could the performance have been better?
Gene Blake main narrative is alright, but when he tries to do other voices, it is horrible.]
The little girl in this book especially was bad, sounded like a cartoon character.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really as the author obviously did not put any effort in writing this story, just put together bits and pieces.
    Any additional comments?
I have tried other of Druga books and they were not great but ok.
I thought at least she isn't using the F word and then she did.
Enjoyable story but truly dreadful editing
A clever story and the narrator was nice to listen to but the editing was truly dreadful . Bits of the story were missing , tapping sounds , it just spoilt it completely the last 6 hours were missing chunks of the story . Come on audible get your act together! You really shouldn't be charging for unedited and unchecked books !

One of my all time favorites. Outstanding story!
loved it, great story very scary. Kind of an every man's story about how to survive an apoclyptal event, whether a religious one or not.
    very disappointing
The plot was too focused on dead people ripping living people's throats out and didn't really have too much of a story behind. the philosophical and religious arguments didn't seem to make sense in the midst of what was going on in the story or maybe it was just the narrator had the most boring voice I have ever heard! I was really disappointed!

Great hard sci-fi written in a classic style
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Very thought provoking, but mixed with enough action to keep everything moving.
What other book might you compare Spindown to and why?
    Asimov, and Clarke stories
    Which scene was your favorite?
Without giving any spoilers, I was moved by Fowler & Sholve's final scene at the superintendent station.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Buck's explanation at the dock of the spacecraft and Roon's choice to return to a housing compartment
It is an interesting take on clones
First thoughts about the cover for Spindown? Oh look, planets! I wonder if there are going to be spaceships. Or aliens! Aliens with tentacles worry me though.
The main character is Fowler 3085 for the most part. He is a clone. Most of the characters in this book are either clones or machines. There are a few non-clones, but they are few and far between. Whats awesome about this story is the clones at first remind me of the machines more humans. As the story goes on, Fowler learns what it is like to be more human with each passing moment.
This story focuses on the clones trying to escape the machines making them Dormant Dead by getting to the Superintendent. It is a rather interesting take on what being a human will be, could be, and should be. Before the clones start realizing what they are, who they are, they think about themselves as almost one person per clone type. This is very obvious when they are in a killing chamber and see some of their clone selves dead on slabs.
It is an interesting take on clones, future technologies, and living on a different planet. The clones are the workers that are mining the planet for this rare ore. From start to finish they are in charge of the whole process. The only none-clones are in Superintendent Quarters. The Superintendent is little more than a hostess for anyone that visits the planet, and to watch to make sure the shipments get shipped off planet on schedule.
The narrator is Andrew Mcferrin. His voice is calm and melodic. I like his different voices he uses for the females in this story. Even when theyre thinking to themselves he uses their voices. Sholvs voice had me forgetting that it is a man saying her voice. This book has a lot of graphic scenes. It is a very good read and/or listen. I wouldnt recommend it to a young audience though. The author is George Wright Padgett. This book is 17 hours and 32 minutes long.
This book left me thinking about the future mankind is creating for itself.

Farley Rutherford and his team - migraine-tortured neurologist "Chopper" Vittori and uber-geek engineer Ringo Hayes - have created sensory saturation, a virtual reality system that drops users into the psyches of endangered animals as they fight for survival, and they believe the profound experience could turn the indifferent masses into avid environmentalists.
The Sensory Deception is a mind-blowing, globe-trotting ride that will take listeners from cutthroat Silicon Valley boardrooms to pirate ships off the Somali coast to the devastated rain forests of the Amazon, all to ask the question: What is a human life worth compared to that of an entire planet?

    Could not finish
Story may have been developing slowly and was borderline campy, but the overall reason I stopped was the narration. The main female protagonist was portrayed like an unsure, unintelligent, airy speaking person. Id rather just hear the male voice since the acting was not to my liking. To each their own.

There's more than one kind of monster.
When Chase Daniels first sees the little girl in umbrella socks tearing open the Rottweiler, he's not too concerned. As a longtime meth addict, he's no stranger to horrifying, drug-fueled hallucinations.
But as he and his fellow junkies soon discover, the little girl is no illusion. The end of the world really has arrived.
The funny thing is, Chase's life was over long before the apocalypse got here, his existence already reduced to a stinking basement apartment and a filthy mattress and an endless grind of buying and selling and using. He's lied and cheated and stolen and broken his parents' hearts a thousand times. And he threw away his only shot at sobriety a long time ago, when he chose the embrace of the drug over the woman he still loves.
And if your life's already shattered beyond any normal hopes of redemption well, maybe the end of the world is an opportunity. Maybe it's a last chance for Chase to hit restart and become the man he once dreamed of being. Soon he's fighting to reconnect with his lost love and dreaming of becoming her hero among civilization's ruins.
But is salvation just another pipe dream?
Propelled by a blistering first-person voice and featuring a powerfully compelling antihero, Fiend is at once a riveting portrait of addiction, a pitch-black love story, and a meditation on hope, redemption, and delusion - not to mention one hell of a zombie novel.

    trainspotting meets zombies...not for everybody
    Any additional comments?
as the story opens, chase and his best friend, typewriter (yes, that's his name), are coming out of their latest meth induced haze. through the window, chase sees a little girl trying to pet a rottweiler. he thinks about warning the little girl to stay away from the big dog, but then he notices something. the rottweiler has its tail between its legs and is terrified of the little girl. chase watches as the little girl pounces on the rottweiler and starts to eat it. chase's addled brain can't tell whether he's hallucinating or seeing something real. so, he tries to get typewriter to look out the window to see if what he's seeing is real. by the time chase rouses typewriter, they make enough noise to attract the little girl. when they see her ravaged body and blood-soaked visage they freak out. chase's first thought is to smoke another crystal of meth to deal with the situation.
fiend is about surviving addiction during a zombie apocylapse. yes, it is a weird combination, but it works for the most part. as a zombie apocylapse story, fiend is ok. it had potential. the zombies were actually pretty creepy as they eerily giggled when seeing and pursuing the living.
but fiend shines in its story about addiction. if you've never had a problem with an addiction or had someone you know suffer from an addiction, you may not believe the depths an addict will go to in order to score their next hit. therefore, some listeners may find the plot implausible.
ok...confession time. while i never suffered from addiction on the level in this book, i did have addiction problems. as a teenager, i was bored at school. no subject interested me. i was a year younger than all of my classmates, but my most of my friends were a grade ahead of me. so, i was introduced to partying, at then was a young age.

    Members Reviews:
    Great story - Great narration
What did you love best about Breakaway?
Aside from its masterful narration, what I loved best about this book was its imaginative look into how prehistoric humans may have viewed the world, including their own rituals, fears, longings and spiritual insights. Seeing the world through their eyes gave me a fresh way of seeing through my own.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Breakaway?
One of the most memorable moments of Breakaway was realizing that the strange new world that had been prophesied to these people, the one in which they are having so much trouble believing and trusting, is the world of solid ground, warm air, green plants and land animals that we experience every day and take for granted. While the new experiences are frightening to them as they are happening (and the listeners are truly caught up in those fears), getting to understand those new experiences in a rearview mirror helps us put those fears -- and perhaps our own fears, as well -- in a fresh perspective.
    Which scene was your favorite?
In one scene, one of the female elders proves to be the clan's spiritual leader by doing what the men have been hesitant to do -- standing up and denouncing one of their leaders for cowardice and challenging the people to stop following his faulty guidance. That may have been my favorite scene in the book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A particularly moving moment was hearing one of the leaders of a neighboring clan give guidance to Attu after he survives a vicious bear attack, counseling Attu that unless he deals with the memories of the attack by talking about them, the bear's spirit will continue to attack him in his dreams and memories. I loved that the characters had a spiritual understanding of the world they lived in, and while we might have different understandings today, the experiences themselves are not always so different.
    Any additional comments?
It must be added that the narration of this book is superb. Each character is given a distinct, living voice. Just as every word is clearly articulated and the meaning of every statement is instantly communicated, every character in the book is crystal clear and enjoyable to follow. Matthew Lloyd's voice absolutely honors the material and gives it expressive life.

    Five Stars
Chalker was a great author; this was one of his books I was missing in my collection.
    Read Away
This book was the cheapest one on the list, but the quality is almost like new with just a little bit of wear and tear on the cover only.
    Horrible Condition
I ordered all 5 books in this series but had to order them separately to get them all. They were from different vendors I believe but all fulfilled through Amazon. The book I got in this order, book 4 "The birth of Flux and Anchor" was in horrible condition when I got it. The spine was creased in three places. The cover has been folded over and creased. The edges of the book all around are scuffed. If it weren't for the fact that the return shipping cost more than the book I'd return it immediately. The description for this book should read, "Cover and spine damaged and creased but the pages are readable." It should be rated no higher than poor or very poor (whatever the lowest category is). It was rated either good or very good when I bought it. What a joke.

    Okay performance great story
A few hiccups in the narration, but this is a good story with a fresh plot.
    excellent continuation of the trilogy.
excellent continuation of the trilogy. the author still suffers at times from unnecessarily rehashing segments of the story but overall good. Jonah Cummings has an okay 3rd person narrative voice but I don't care much for his attempt to create character voices. all except the protagonist sounded similar (and whiny) and the protagonist had a forced masculine sound. disappointed to see it is the same narrated for the third installment as I was hoping Cage would narrate it.
    Loved this
I own these books in paperback, and after discovering audio books for endurs game I was hooked on audio. Brings the story to life in a whole new way hearing the characters you imagined while reading it on paper.

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Farside, the side of the moon that never faces Earth, is the ideal location for an astronomical observatory. It is also the setting for a tangled web of politics, personal ambition, love, jealousy, and murder.
Telescopes on Earth have detected an Earth-sized planet circling a star some 30 light-years away. Now the race is on to get pictures of that distant world, photographs and spectra that show whether or not the planet is truly like Earth - and if it bears life. Farside observatory will have the largest optical telescope in the solar system as well as a vast array of radio antennas, the most sensitive radio telescope possible, insulated from the interference of Earths radio chatter by a thousand kilometers of the moons solid body.
Building Farside is a complex, often dangerous task. On the airless surface of the moon, under constant bombardment by hard radiation and in-falling micrometeoroids, builders must work in cumbersome spacesuits and use robotic machines as much as possible. Breakdowns - mechanical and emotional - are commonplace. Accidents happen, some of them fatal. But what they ultimately find will stun everyone, and the human race will never be the same.
    Critic Reviews:
"I believe that by far the science fiction author who will have the greatest effect on the science fiction world, and the world as a whole, is Ben Bova." (Ray Bradbury)
    Members Reviews:
Not super impressed to be honest
I was a bit surprised when I read this book. It was my first Ben Bova story and I was expecting something a little better. Right from the start, I found that the story wasn't very descriptive. The dialog was weak in my opinion and I had hope the author would ad more to the scenes. If I am missing something, then feel free to recommend another book of his.
    An OK read
I liked that Farside was based on real science. There is an amount of suspense, but I missed the "chewing my nails" moments when you can hardly wait what's going to happen next. At certain point the killer was predictable.
I liked the author's voice and the way he wrote the story. However the excerpts from the personal files irritated me. The characters' background should have been incorporated into the story.
    Farside is an OK read.
Ok. Ok story, ok characters, ok writing.
This was ok. Kept my ears busy, put pretty pictures of moon bases and telescopes and stuff in my mind's eye. Characters were human. Not much thought went into the idea of living on the moon though, there were all kinds of opportunities for awesome details about the hardships and difficulties of a permanent moon colony, that were conveniently ignored. Having read Red Mars (Kim Stanley Robbinson) this was frustratingly shallow. But it entertained me, and I'll probably read more of Mr Bova's works.
Great plot, Excellent Narration, Must Read!
Leave it to Ben Bova to create a race out of astronomy accolades. Farside takes us to the dark-side of the moon where a deep space telescope is being constructed to look at a planet called New Earth. This effort, of course is in competition with an rival Earth based effort. Two scientists, racing to be the first, racing the Nobel prize. What mischief is hatched? Hmmm. Well thats for the plot to lay out and for you to listen to conclusion to.
I absolutely admire and love Stephan Rudnickis narration; he is an old hand at it. He has narrated numerous Sci-Fi, namely Orson Scott Card for one.
