Title: Body Work: A V. I. Warshawski Novel
    Author: Sara Paretsky
    Narrator: Susan Ericksen
    Format: Abridged
Length: 7 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-31-10
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 25 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Doctors take days off why not P.I.s? V.I. Warshawski demands. But when Americas hardest-working private eye goes clubbing, a stranger is shot and dies in her arms.
V.I. has been visiting Club Gouge, Chicagos edgiest nightspot, where a woman known as the Body Artist turns her naked body into a canvas for the audience to paint on. The show attracts all kinds of people, from a menacing off-duty cop to Ukrainian mobsters and Iraq war vets - and V.I.s impetuous cousin, Petra. A tormented young painter shows up, too, and the intricate designs she creates on the Body Artist drive one of the vets into a violent rage.
When the painter is shot, the cops figure its an easy collar: PTSD vet goes off the rails, stalks then kills young woman. But the vets family hires V.I. to clear his name, and the detective uncovers a chain of ugly truths that stretches all the way from Iraq to Chicagos South Side.
    Critic Reviews:
The thing about Sara Paretsky is, shes toughnot because she observes the bone-breaker conventions of the private-eye genre but because she doesnt flinch from examining old social injustices others might find too shameful (and too painful) to dig up. (The New York Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
    Disappointing
I love V.I. and admire Paretsky's writing. This novel, however, stretches the credibility beyond reason; Thugs transmitting secret bank account numbers through live video of an artist's naked behind, V.I. posing as the naked artist in an elaborate scheme that endangers the public and accomplishes little? Please! The reader, the same as her last novel, is mediocre. Lottie still doesn't haven't a German accent and everyone tends to shout. Finally, could someone please explain to me why after 25 years of dealing with Chicago Police Department V.I. doesn't have more credibility with them?
Sara, maybe you're running out of steam on V.I.. She's a glorious character and you've give her so many fabulous stories - maybe it's time for her retirement. I will miss her.

On Pensacola Beach, the Coast Guard prepares for a Category 5 hurricane that has entered the Gulf of Mexico. When the air crew patrols the waterways, they spot a huge fishing cooler about a mile offshore. Drug traffickers have been known to dump coolers with smuggled product to avoid detection and pay fishermen to retrieve them. But when the crew open this cooler, theyre shocked by what they find: body parts tightly wrapped in plastic.
Though she is putting herself in the projected path of the hurricane, Special Agent Maggie ODell is sent to investigate. Eventually, shes able to trace the torso in the cooler back to a man who mysteriously disappeared weeks earlier after a hurricane hit Port St. Lucie, Florida. Only Port St. Lucie is on the Atlantic side. How did his body end up six hundred miles away in the Gulf of Mexico?
Cliffhanger chapters, behind-the-scenes forensic details, colorful characters, and satisfying twists have become the trademarks of Kavas psychological thrillers. In Damaged, she ratchets up the suspense a notch by sending Maggie into the eye of an impending monster hurricane to track down a killer.
    Critic Reviews:
"Maggie O'Dell is a brilliant and complicated heroine - at once witty, smart, and detailed, but always highly entertaining. Damaged is a book from a writer who knows how to deliver exactly what readers want. Alex Kava is in the top echelon of suspense masters and this one is not to be missed." Great Listen - Good Series
I took a chance on this audiobook and loved the writing and the characterization by the narrator. When I listen to an audible.com book the narrator can make or break the experience. After I listened to this book by Chris Knopf I downloaded the rest of the available books. The books and narration by those books were also great. I would recommend listening to them in date order of publication. The development of the characters flow into the next book. If you like unusual mysteries you will love this series by Chris Knopf.

    Publisher's Summary:
Nothing is ever what it first appears in a Dan Brown novel. Set over a breathtaking 12-hour time span, the book's narrative takes the listener on an exhilarating journey through a masterful and unexpected landscape as Professor of Symbology Robert Langdon is once again called into action.
Expertly researched and written with breakneck pace, The Lost Symbol once again demonstrates why Dan Brown is the world's best-selling thriller writer.
Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol. Within minutes of his arrival, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object is discovered in the Capitol Building. The object is an ancient invitation, meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. And when Langdon's mentor is kidnapped, Langdon's only hope of saving him is to accept this invitation and follow wherever it leads him.
    Critic Reviews:
"Impossible to put down....Mr. Brown was writing sensational visual scenarios long before his books became movie material. This time he again enlivens his story with amazing imagery....Thanks to him, picture postcards of the capital's most famous monuments will never be the same....In the end it is Mr. Brown's sweet optimism, even more than Langdon's sleuthing and explicating, that may amaze his readers most." (The New York Times)
"Thrilling, entertaining....Robert Langdon goes for another roller-coaster ride - this time in a hunt for a Masonic treasure in Washington, D.C." (Los Angeles Times)

    Dont care about Christianity
this is from someone that dont care about Christianity.
i dont care much about god but even beside that i still like dane browns books they way they are satup and all the action in them.
    Its okay
I thought it the book is written to see if it could be more complicated than the others. My favourite book is Angels and Demons, the DaVinci Code was good but preferred Angels and Demons, I would but this behind the others. Enjoyed the start, half the middle and knew then who was whom and could nearly predict the end, not as in the details it is but the ending. Maybe I read to many books?! I think the book might (and I hate abridged books)be better abridged. You will listen to it, but it is not unputdownable.........
    Thoroughly enjoyable!!
loved it, the narration was very good, cant wait for the next one!! so much easier to listen to the story rather than having to have the book with you.
    Great book!
    Loved the performance, absolutely mesmerizing
at any given moment, I could identify which character is speaking. Perfection!
    very interesting and thought provoking.
well worth listening to. narrator excellent. I enjoyed this experience very much. 5 star rating.

In Bones, investigative reporter Irene Kelly joins a team leading a serial killer into the Sierra Nevadas to locate the graves of his victims.
    Critic Reviews:
"When an edgy, rebellious teenage girl asks her to look for her missing mother, Irene crosses the path of a very dangerous serial killer - Nicholas Parrish. He is one of those totally anonymous but enormously gifted and resourceful villains found only in fiction. Parrish kills women who happen to look like Irene (and his abusive mother), and attracts devoted disciples to his grisly cause. Because of Irene's involvement, several more lives are damaged or endangered, and the strain takes its toll on the reporter's mental stability.Burke is such a fine, realistic writer that she can tread her way carefully across territory already well covered by Patricia Cornwell, Jeffery Deaver, Thomas Harris, et al. and still find something new to say about ritual murder and forensic science. But her real talent is bringing to full, instant life a remarkable woman - and the city she lives and works in." (Amazon.com review)
"A journey into the heart of darkness ... dark and gripping." (Los Angeles Times)
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent, a very pleasant surprise
I put off buying this book because of the Publishers Comments and the section on "What the Critics Say" They certainly didn't do it justice. I haven't read any other of the books in this series but really enjoyed this one. It wasn't too much of any one thing, nor did it lack substance. The plot flowed very nicely and was very believable from start to finish. Not only that, it was well researched and kept you guessing. I highly recommend it!
    Outstanding, riveting, and complete
Every aspect of this mystery was outstanding. The story was compelling, the development of Irene, the bringing in of so many interesting characters, the resolution of it, were all beyond what I would ever have expected when I was reading Book 1. What a commendable progression, tightening of story and attention to detail. I recommend this to any mystery addict, particularly if you want to identify with the main characters.
    Poor
Written for 12 year olds, narrated for 3rd graders. Thinking about taking the $25 loss was more interesting than finishing the book

Unfortunately for the criminals, the Meehans haven't forgotten their old skill: Alvirah can become a cleaning woman at a moment's notice, and Willy still loves plumbing. An enjoyable listen!
Almost as much a comedy as a thriller. The "sister" sisters were just the right touch. A very enjoyable listen!!
    Enjoyable
I usually love Alvira and Willy stories, but this was to short and i really wish the author would hire a professional narrator.
I so wanted to like this.
I can see how some people may find this story cute and enjoyable... unfortunately I'm not one of them. I found the characters annoying and I just wanted to see them reach there end.
On a personal note: the two main characters reminded me too much of my grandparents, an extremely pushy yenta and a real push over of a man who exists solely to provide a whipping boy for his wife.
    this was a good plot.
I could hardly put the phone down as I listen to the story. loved it.

    Story marred by unconvincing romance
I usually enjoy Ruth Rendell's books, including her Wexford series. However, this is one of the weaker books, in my opinion. I now recall seeing a TV version of the story and thinking that the romance between the recently widowed Inspector Burden and the mother of a missing child (a case he was working on) was unconvincing and that it spoiled an otherwise good detective story involving two missing children: the two cases separated by over a decade. Ruth Rendell is excellent when describing rather odd, psychologically disturbed people but is less adroit over romantic relationships between men and women.

    Classic crime noir
No one's better than Ross MacDonald, his stories are tight, the characters are excellent studies, the plot doesn't stop til the last sentence, the writing is as good as it gets ("In this room I felt the heart of the evil...").
I wondered if he would hold up after all this time (they are set in mid 50's) after recently being disapointed in a John D MacDonald story I bought on audible but Ross holds up great. I listened to it in one sitting, the narrator is also well suited for the material.
