    Publisher's Summary:
When new evidence arises in a cold case, can Professor Hopkins refrain from delving into a newfound world of corruption, vice, and danger?
Stanley Hopkins cannot resist the invitation from a honey-voiced US attorney asking him to track down the source of photographs of a young dance major abducted five years earlier from her apartment in Clarkeston, Georgia. A journalist has stumbled across newly posted pictures of Diana Cavendish on the Internet, apparently taken just days before she disappeared with her boyfriend.
While Stanley deals with vexing personal problems and scrambles to identify the owner of the website that acquired the photos, small-town journalist James Murphy and federal prosecutor Melanie Wilkerson uncover new evidence of the crime - and the cover-up - that ranges far beyond the confines of the victim's quaint Georgia college town.
This second installment of the Clarkeston Chronicles presents new challenges for Hopkins that take him far from the California base he established in Death in Eden and introduces him to a fascinating group of collaborators who will anchor him in small-town Georgia.

    Good characters and twisty plot
This novel introduces several interesting characters that were reasonably well developed and that I could care about. The story itself was mostly satisfying, unfolding with several unexpected twists. I thought the end was a little sudden and disappointing but it didn't prevent me from liking the book overall. The global issue which is brought into the story is something I was not aware of, so that was educational.
    A Solid Read
A well thought out story with great characters and wrists and turns. Looking forward to more from Heard!
    Amazing storytelling
I really enjoyed reading this novel, although I was aware if farm subsidies I did not know the US cotton producers were getting so much of my tax money. This cotton subsidy is central to the plot of this fictional story. The characters are memorable and the investigation into the disappearance of a young Georgi couple includes lots of action
    An Excellent Read
This book is engaging, clearly written and intricately plotted. Seemingly disparate threads are woven together for a thoroughly satisfying read. For those who are familiar with college towns and the state of Georgia, an extra bonus is the wonderful writing about Athens.....the best college town in the United States. Plus there's a fair amount of intellectual property law thrown in!
A WTO education on Cotton with Side of Murder
Well constructed characters and background development. Never saw the WTO education with history of Cotton in the U.S. and international relations coming until mid read. Enjoyed story and the building relationships and friendships. Surprised how much I cared. Smiled at the neat ending. An intelligent book for me and not my usual mystery. A happy discovery.

Grab your walker, secure your catheter, and make sure there's double adhesive on your dentures! Then hang on for dear life, because you are about to ride along with the covert Senile Squad -- a bunch of elderly cops who refuse to stop catching crooks. Fighting street crime the old-fashioned way is their modus operandi. The Ol' Blues, led by their cigar-chewing Sarge, bring justice back to the streets of Omaha by taking down a brutal Sudanese kingpin who thinks he's a powerful gang lord. Crime fighting has never been so funny or effective when seasoned cops armed only with walkers, canes, and wheelchairs (and some gross tactics) take back the streets.

    Entertaining from the word GO!
What made the experience of listening to Senile Squad the most enjoyable?
Something different, entertaining, thrilling. Love the narrator, too. I love YA, but I have listened to so many stories about kids learning they have super powers that this was a warm and welcome relief.
What other book might you compare Senile Squad to and why?
Hmm. Not sure there is a comparison yet!
What does Michael L. Canaan bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His accents, his deep and clear narration is as if he is reading it right to the reader. I love it!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    The geezers have gone rogue.
    Any additional comments?
Funny, thrilling and original. Well done!
    Hits all the emotions
I love books that make you feel so many emotions through out the book. I literally laughed out loud multiple times and felt myself angry and sad for many of the characters. Very well written and I look forward to the sequel!
    Great Book!
Would you consider the audio edition of Senile Squad to be better than the print version?
No, They are each great. The book you can use your imagination for the voices. In the audio edition the speaker uses voices for the different characters, but there are not so many ranges to his voices. Many characters sound alike.
What other book might you compare Senile Squad to and why?
Senile Squad is unique. I have never read anything quite like it. That being said, it is easy reading, like Beverly Lewis and Stephanie Meyer's books. It is a comical look at what a Cop's retirement home might look like.
Have you listened to any of Michael L. Canaans other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have never listened to Michael L. Canaan's performances before. I would not be opposed to listening to more of them though.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Never underestimate the Ol' Blues!
    Any additional comments?
I love to read, but simply do not have time in my life at this point. I decided to try listening to audio books during my commute. It is awesome! I found myself sitting in my car after arriving at my destination because I didn't want to stop listening. I also couldn't wait to get back in the car so I could continue Senile Squad.

Un caso indecifrabile, all'apparenza.

    Adore Helen Grace!
Helen Grace is one of my favorite female characters and I have read all of M. J. Arlidge's books in this series. Helen is such a brilliant, determined police officer and, at the same time, so tortured from a horrible childhood. She tries so hard to overcomes this obstacle. This novella was very interesting since it introduces the reader to Helen when she was just starting out as a new police officer. Even then, you could see her determination to get to the truth and, even though others thought she was in left field, she was proven correct. I love this series and am so excited that the new book will be available on May 18th! Unfortunately, I have to send to Amazon UK for the book version since it is only offered as a Kindle book in the USA!! But it doesn't matter! I need to read the next journey of this amazIng chacter!
    Another good book
Very disappointed the book was so short. But I still enjoyed it. Gives you a greater understanding of Helen Grace.
    She's back!
Seems a little less strong than some of Arlidge's work. Helen and the other female characters have great strength.
Still a good read and if you're a writer, an excellent study in technique. Short paragraphs, succinct chapters, etc.

This book is right at the start of Helen Graceâs career. Itâs really nice to have a bit more background on Helen Grace. I enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone. 4.5*

A wonderful discovery with a timely topic.
I practically did back-flips when I read this follow-up to LET US PREY. Here is a writer in fine, fine form: tightly written, believable events, and strong characters make this novel a good read.
The plot centers on sexting and older men who prey on younger girls via Facebook and texting. Scott weaves this timely social issue beautifully in a murder plot where the predator winds up dead. She deftly gives us red-herrings that actually fit well into the plot and will keep us slightly guessing until we're introduced to the murderer and, even then, she plays a nice sleight of hand to keep the reader guessing. Scott also avoids preaching to the reader directly, instead she weaves cautionary advice through the story: educating without lecturing.
The ending ties up most ends nicely with a few strings left untied to illustrate that, in this type of situation, not everything will end up happy.
    Easy reading, well-contrived
This is the second in what's starting out to be a fun series of detective mysteries that are built around some of the realities of modern social situations. Not Grafton-quality yet, but stocked with characters who are a little more believable than the more recent Evanovich stories. Read it for fun!
    Another great one!
The second book in the Gotcha Detective series is as amazing as the first book. This one focus' on sexual predators who prey on young boys and girls on internet social networking sites.
When on of the detective's teenage daughters is found sexting with a person she believes to be of her own age yet is actually a grown man all the detectives at Gotcha step up to catch the predator and put him away for life. Unfortunately he is found dead and a teenage girl is missing.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried with the Gotcha detectives to figure out "who done it".
I am currently reading the third in the series and can't wait to see what happens. Fantastic series - a must read for those of us who love a good mystery - or two or three. :-)
And they keep on getting better
Book 2 in the series and it is still great. It doesn't get stuck down in same ole, same ole.
What I liked about this book was the relevant topics that we all need to take heed of. It's not preaching but it does make you think. I don't want to say too much as you really need to read this book.
Once again Jamie Lee has covered all the emotions.

    Publisher's Summary:
"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything." FBI Agent Alex Troutt has no intentions of falling for anything. Apparently, neither do the bad guys, as the Boston area is once again targeted by extremists. Boston Strong of just a few years ago is now Boston on Edge. And this time, the targets are men of the cloth - priests.
At least that's how it looks at first. As investigators struggle to make sense of the bombings, Alex is thrown for a loop when the FBI assistant director asks her to investigate one of their own - a colleague and friend who is suspected of having ties to a known terrorist. Torn between her values of friendship and the oath she gave when she accepted her FBI credentials, Alex must now lead two investigations simultaneously.
The bombings don't stop, and panic sets in as the carnage spreads beyond the realm of the original targets.
Bloody Sunday. The IRA. The movement toward peace. Wounds of decades ago have reopened, bleeding all over Boston. As she pieces together the puzzle, Alex begins to wonder just how innocent her colleague really is. It's almost too much for her to fathom. Just how far will someone go to make a stand?

    Another winner by John Mefford
I look forward to every new release from John Mefford becasue his writing style, plots, and everything about his books never let me down. His writing style magically pulls me into the plot, making me feel involved! Not many authors have that talent. I did receive a free copy prior to publication, but, of course, I bought my own as soon as it became available because it it just such an outstanding book.
John Mefford is probably one of the most creatiive and well written authors I know, and holds his place, understandably, at the top of my âmust readâ list. The storyline in AT Once is, once again, definitely intriguing. This third book in the series continues the tale in a very captivating manner. His characters, our old friends, come to life, drawing the reader into the story. They are back, with new problems to solve, keeping us on the "edge of our seats!"
âAT Onceâ is definitely a winner. I became so immersed in it that I truly could not put it down until I finished it. There are two other books in this series, however you can enjoy this one as a standalone novel. I enjoyed it tremendously, and suggest you read it too.
    Buy this book... AT Once!
First, I am one of John Meffordâs advanced readers. Although I received a free copy prior to publication, I bought my own as soon as it became available. Why? Because I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
John Mefford is probably one of the most prolific authors I know, and quite quickly rose to the top of my âmust readâ list. The storyline in AT Once is, once again, definitely unique. The third book in the series continues the tale in a very satisfying manner. Our old friends are back, with new problems to solve.
âAT Onceâ is a winner. I literally stayed up all night just to finish it. While there are two other books in the series, you can enjoy this one as a standalone novel. I enjoyed it tremendously, and suggest you read it too.
Another exciting installment in the Alex Trout adventures
Wow!!! Another fabulous installment in the Alex Trout series. Can they get any better? They seem to be, much to my delight. Alex Trout is at it again.

    Members Reviews:
    Excellent writer, contrived plot
First Sentence: It was one of those jobs you take on when things are very lean.
"Nameless" is hired by a lovely young wife to find out whether her husband was being unfaithful. "Nameless" follows the husband to a hotel of cottages in Cypress Bay (Carmel), sees him meet with a bald man and return to his hotel room.
When, hours later, "Nameless" realizes the cottage may have a backdoor, he investigates and finds the husband has been murdered. An anomaly in the victim's possessions is an old pulp detective novel by a writer who lives in the area.
There are a lot of wonderful and fun things about reading books in this series. The story takes place in the days where many men still wore hats, smoking was common, no one had cell phones and you couldn't just look things up on the internet. The latter was really made apparent when the characters were trying to track down a copy of an old book and I think of how easy it is to do that these days. There is also an interesting commentary on the state of writers and publishers. The worry, during this time, was that television and computers would make writers of fiction and printed matter obsolete.
Pronzini, even in these early books, is a wonderful writer. His powers of descriptions add so much to his work. Although he renamed Carmel, I could envision exactly where the characters where. But more impressively, at one point he the fatigue that can overcome a detective while waiting for something to happen on a case. This particular story was not one of my favorite from Pronzini.
The plot felt overly contrived and unconvincing to me, but it was still very cleverly done and well written. Pronzini, particularly the "Nameless" series, is someone I always recommend.
    Five Stars
Great mystery writer all his books are A1
Not his best, but still OK
By this, the 3rd book in Pronzini's classic "Nameless" detective series (which I recently began re-reading in order, you would expect the plots to have gotten better. Instead, I was distincly underwhelmed by the formulaic setting, plot and resolution of "Undercurrent" (especially since the first two in the series, The Snatch and The Vanished, were better than I remembered). Nameless is the stereotypical private eye, uncouth, unkempted, and cynical, and here nothing really changes. A client hires Nameless to follow her husband on one of his mysterious weekend trips, where she suspects her husband is cheating on her. When he turns up dead, Nameless must find out who did it, and if it's part of a larger plot taking place in the small California beach town.
Despite several interesting characters (including a washed up old pulp writer hack that Pronzini seems to have had a lot of fun bringing to life), nothing very interesting happens.

Author John W Mefford is new to me
Audible listener Shelley has very recently posted two 5 star reviews of the Ivy Nash modern detective thriller series novels by John W Mefford. I looked up the author and found that he had earlier written the Alex Troutt modern detective thriller series, so I decided to try some of the books. AT Large is Book 2 in the six novel Alex Troutt series. I doubtless missed some background details by failing to listen to AT Bay first, but such details are not very important to the story of FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt's hunt for a high profile female serial killer. Along the way the listener learns a lot about Troutt's background and family of a teen daughter and 11 year old son as well as about her cheating ex-husband who is now dead.
AT Large (the AT are the protagonist's initials) is a solid 5 star thriller with a fascinating protagonist, lots of action, and constantly building suspense. I had never listened to any audio book narrated by Jodie Bentley. She does a great job.
    Even larger
    Any additional comments?
I can't deny it, I am a big fan of John Mefford's Alex Troutt series and have read all six books so was delighted when they started to appear in audio. Second in the series, At Large is a stand alone but knowledge of the first book does slightly enhance the background to this story, even though pertinent details from At Bay are filled in completely, without disruption to the story, as the investigation unfolds.
At Large is a good thriller, more a why-done-it than a who? as parts of the story are told from the killer's perspective. But the real excellence of this book, as with it's predecessor, comes from the ongoing character development of the main protagonist, Alex, an F.B.I. agent, who is still trying to sort her memories after an amnesia resulting from an earlier injury. As she discovers herself, so do we. But forgetfulness in no way dampened her feisty, even aggressive, character and the interplay between her and her colleagues is pure joy. Her difficult family life is cute, too.
The narrator, Jodie Bentley, makes a great interpretation of Alex, with her slightly dismissive, sardonic approach to colleagues as she tackles both crime and her life.
