    Sorry I purchased this one
What disappointed you about Anthony Trent, Master Criminal (Anthony Trent 1)?
The narrator for a novel with mostly male characters should be a male. I could not follow who was speaking and the high pitch of Ms. Collins voice made this novel near impossible to follow.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Caroline Collins?
Scott Brick, Charles Constant, or Jeff Woodson
    Any additional comments?
I think there is potential with the series.

Filled with the usual dose of film noir and humor, the eighth book in this acclaimed mystery series brings back all of Reeds cohorts, including girlfriend Willie, Cal, and the Goofball Brothers.

Praise for the acclaimed first novel in the Reed Ferguson mystery series, This Doesn't Happen in the Movies:
"The promising kickoff to Pawlish's comic mystery series, starring far-from-perfect PI Reed Ferguson. Pawlish earns high marks for plot construction, with twists and turns naturally unfolding as Ferguson, inexperienced but not incapable, feels his way through the case. A good-humored mystery series worth following." - Kirkus Review
"This is one witty, hilarious private detective story that will keep the reader glued to the pages until the very end." - Readers' Favorite

Possibly the best of the noir series
Oftentimes a series begins to die a slow death after 3 or 4 titles, and I was afraid that had happened to this one, as there were a couple I couldn't even finish. But Renee Pawlish has absolutely breathed fresh life into this series. The last several titles have great, and this one surpassed them all.
The best element is plot. Ms. Pawlish keeps us involved throughout the book, with unexpected twists. The solution evolves step by step without anything having to be pulled out of the blue just to keep things moving. The ending was not what I expected, and that's a good thing. The level of suspense at the climax is higher than any other book in the series.
There is just the right touch of homage to the classic noir films. I'm reading on my Kindle app, so I could follow up the references, and see how truly appropriate each was.
The characters have evolved over the course of the series, we don't have the same people moving through the same motions as one often finds after the fifth or sixth book. Even the locale plays a larger role than in previous books. I used to live in Denver decades ago, so it's fun to cover the territory in the book.
I'm not sure I've conveyed in my review just how much I enjoyed this book. I did, a lot.

    Publisher's Summary:
The Eye of the Beholder is a cult classic that inspired both French and English film adaptations. Joanna Eris has a bad habit of marrying men that wind up dead. An unnamed private detective, known simply as The Eye is hired to investigate the death of her husband. The story charts the development of the detective s dangerous obsession with a femme fatale, as he pursues her across the United States.
    Members Reviews:
    A strange noir cult classic
Nice edition. I like this as a love story, and I like something about the characters, which don't strike me as all that flat. I think this is pulp fiction with the soul of literature, and that's probably why it seems so disappointing. The general plot is not exactly revolutionary, the writing is somewhat clunky and seems to be trying too hard to fit itself in the genre when it should be blossoming into something unique. It's like a blurry photograph that *could* be some rare cryptozoological wonder... if only it had been clarified. As it is, I think the reader is left squinting their eyes and wishing it were true.
    Mesmerizing
This novel is a hynotic journey that questions the definitions of love and compassion and presents a wasteland America seen through the eyes of one man who has stumbled on a woman who quickly becomes the center of his universe. All other questions become secondary when she walks into the lense of his camera. A tragic love story or a disturbing novel of obsession? The line between the two is cleverly blurred in this breathtaking novel.
    Great psychological thriller
I read this book because, despite the 1-star rating I gave the film, I suspected that there was some at-least-decent material in the underflying source (the novel). My expectations were vastly superceded; it is clear that the movie was unintelligible because (a) too much was cut out and (b) there was an obvious effort to over-modernize it (the book was written almost 20 years ago).
"The Eye," a private investigator becomes obsessed with a woman after he witnesses her kill a man who he has been surveilling. Unlike the film (which takes place over a relatively short period of time), in the book he trails her for over a decade. Also, unlike the film, one begins to really "understand" both characters' motivations. The result is a fast-paced, tight psychological page-turner.
Bone-chilling suspense, almost more than I could handle
The books is amazing in every way. I wanted to read it after watching the movie, and certainly didn't regret it.
Although, not quite. The author paints a picture of a private investigator chasing after a woman he was paid and instructed to find. He does his job, successfully, but then gets mildly infatuated with her. Then simply obsessed. And he also has a daughter who helps him at it; what is unnatural about this daughter one will have to read to find out.
What I disliked about this book was its coldness, its cruelty. The book throws you into endless feelings of discomfort and fear; until the very end. Though the main character does, in a sense, get what he wanted, the book felt very unemotional to me. I think the author did an outstanding job at providing this feeling, but in the end I wanted nothing more than to read or watch something with a PG rating. Maybe it's just me.

    Fun and entertaining!
Great entertainment, fun characters and keeps you guessing! Looking forward to the next Copper Black Mystery.
    What happens in Vegas....
Full Service Blonde is not only an entertaining mystery, it is a Las Vegas buffet of situations that prove that what happens in Vegas can happen anywhere anywhere that has legal brothels an hour away in one direction and a Sekhmet Temple an hour away in the opposite direction. Copper Black, an aspiring newspaper reporter, finds herself becoming intimately familiar with the people and policies of each when she steps out of her role as calendar girl, the person who reports on society doings to investigate the murder of Victoria McKimber, a prostitute and the winner of a national sales contest for a line of famous beauty products. In this prequel to Getting Off on Frank Sinatra, 24 year old Copper moves to Las Vegas from Connecticut to take a job at The Las Vegas Light. Its the Christmas holidays and her long-distance boyfriend, Daniel, is scheduled to spend a quiet and romantic week with her and her family, but as she showed in Getting Off on Frank Sinatra, Copper unlike her metallic namesake is a magnet for chaos, confusion and murder.
The narrator, Em Eldridge, gives Copper just the right amount of both bravado and vulnerability. She delivers Coppers dialogue with a light, sassy innocence, but shes equally adept at portraying the other characters with the appropriate levels of concern, gravity or menace they require.
Perhaps not everything that happens in Las Vegas can happen anywhere, but Edwards deals with a wide range of issues that occur everywherehomelessness, corruption, land deals, homosexuality, abandoned children, sexual harassment in the work place, stereotyping, dysfunctional families, learning disorders, and questionable motives of charity supporters to name a few. In addition, she gives a fascinating description of the design and protocols of an actual brothel.

Turtles, Pirates, Hidden Treasure, Mystery Abounds
Treasure in Paradise is the 7th book in the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery series by Kathi Daley. Tj Jensen has agreed to oversee the renovations of Turtle Cove Resort on Gull Island for Garrett Hanford, a friend of her Father, and provide a summer getaway for her half-sisters, Ashley and Gracie, her friend Kyle Donovan, her Grandfather, Ben, and family friend Stan Griffin plus their three dogs, and four cats. Gull Island is a great place for a relaxing vacation, until a dead body enters the picture. It doesnât take long for Tj and company to realize not everything is as peaceful as one would expect. Add in preservation of land with nesting turtles, a history of pirates hiding treasure, treasure hunters, and corporate land developers to the mix and mysteries abound.
Somehow working through the battles and sorting out truth from fiction feel less overwhelming with family and friends to see you through. Tj and friends find the courage to keep moving forward. Together they can create magical miracles and these battles will be won. Treasure in Paradise is a superbly written addition to Ms. Daleyâs Tj Jensen mystery series. The characters are well-developed, the plot is tightly woven with lots of twists and turns, all the elements of a classic cozy mystery including a touch of romance are perfectly integrated. Given the cliffhanger at the end of the story, canât wait for the next book in the series! This is the perfect book to read on a beautiful Spring day, relaxing by the pool or on the beach, or possibly while on a cruise to the Caribbean Islands where pirate lore abounds!
I won a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. I have purchased the previous books in this series and a Kindle copy of this book.
âTreasure in Paradiseâ earns 5/5 Treasure Maps!
Kathi Daley writes several series of which I am a big fan, but I had not yet started the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery seriesâwhat was I thinking! Iâve missed so much! Henrey Press has picked up this series, so the new book, seventh in the series, is the first place Iâll start. Fans, Iâm sure, will be thrilled rejoining Tj and her crew on another absorbing mystery, and newbies, such as myself, will be just as entertained. Thereâs enough background information to be comfortable with the characters and get glimpses as to how previous plot lines effect this story. Even though this series has all the components I enjoy in my âcozyâ mysteriesâdeveloped characters and an engaging mystery on which I can use my own skill to uncover the culprit, Kathi Daleyâs signature style is still what makes this story a standout.

    Funny and thrilling
I read this series many years ago before I got into audio books. It is a little slow to get going but the funny stuff keeps you interested. I had forgotten mostly what it was about so it was likely starting a new book. Its very well narrated too, a good holiday read. I definitely recommend.
    I love this
.....a little bit different from the usual Linwood Barclay style, but definitely worth a listen!
    Slow start
A very slow and frustrating beginning- I nearly gave up but glad I didn't. Zac's character was also very frustrating- as indeed it was meant to be. Developed into an entertaining and humorous storyline - very different from the author's previous books. Excellent narration and humorous style. Glad I enjoyed it as I have 3 more from the series to read!!

Twenty-one-year-old Rune is an aspiring filmmaker, but so far her only break has been scoring a job as an underpaid production assistant in Manhattan. Still, she's always on the lookout for the perfect topic for her own film - and she thinks she's found it when she witnesses the bombing of a triple-X movie theater in Times Square.
Rune's got a great hook for her documentary: She plans to film it through the eyes of Shelly Lowe, the porn star whose movie was playing at the theater when it exploded. But just hours after Rune films a poignant Shelly reflecting on her dreams of becoming a serious actress, a second bomb silences the beautiful film star forever. Was Shelly in the wrong place at the wrong time - or was she the bomber's target all along?
Rune vows to find out the truth behind the death of this blue movie star. But as she struggles to finish shooting her film, Rune's labor of love may be her final masterpiece - as a shooting of a more lethal kind threatens to write an ending to this story that no one wants to see....

    Wonderful series, wonderful heroine!
Rune is a young woman who wants to be a film-maker. Although she doesn't have any formal education, she has managed to pick up bits and pieces from various jobs she has held, including her current one for an agency that does advertising and independent films. One day, on the way to work, she witnesses the bombing of an adult movie theatre - the professed work of a right-wing Fundamentalist group calling themselves the Sword of Jesus - and the idea of creating a film around the event captures her interest. She tracks down an actress who was in one of the films playing in the theatre that day - Shelly Lowe - and convinces her to give some interviews. However, shortly after beginning the project, a second bombing kills Shelly Lowe, so Rune must change her focus - she begins to interview Shelly's friends instead, deciding to focus the film on the life and death of this actress, while at the same time trying to solve the mystery of who exactly are responsible for the bombings. Rune develops a relationship with Sam Healy, a member of the bomb squad, who at first tries to keep her away from the scene and then later just tries to minimize the damage.
There are plenty of twists to this one - worthy of Jeffrey Deaver! He never lets us down, that's for sure! Don't miss this one!
    Disappointing
Poorly written. Definitely not worth the purchase. Very disappointing for a Deaver book. I bought all 3 books. The 1st one was just as bad as this one
    An average sequel
The main character Rune does not continue her unique development and insight to the world, as she did in Manhattan is My Beat. And while it does deal with an interesting story of those that are sometimes forgotten by a society who considers some less than worthwhile, it never really gets enough steam to say that they shouldn't be forgotten. On the other hand, it does get into the personality quirks of several people, including those that society would deem worthwhile, but have secrets the world doesn't know.
Reading this story will be ok, but don't expect the same level of enjoyment as from Manhattan is My Beat.

Amazon #1 Bestselling author - over 1 million books in circulation.
From the author of This Doesn't Happen In The Movies, a listeners' favorite finalist in mystery, comes another great suspense story with a dash of humor!
Denver private investigator Reed Ferguson is at it again!
Marijuana store owner Jodie Lundgren suspects that someone is trying to steal her newly developed process for growing marijuana faster and cheaper. She hires Reed to see if this is true or part of her stoner imagination. Reed goes undercover as an employee in Jodie's store, and he soon discovers that selling weed can be a dangerous business. It doesn't take long before Reed uncovers secrets and lies that lead to murder. But can he find the killer before his secret identity is discovered?
Along with the usual cast of characters - Reed's girlfriend, Willie, his tech-savvy best friend Cal, and the none-too-bright Goofball Brothers - that listeners have grown to love, The Lady Who Sang High is full of suspense and humor and cleverly pays homage to film noir.
    Members Reviews:
    Terrific Noir
This is a terrific book. Amazingly this series is getting better and better. I say amazingly because a couple of the earlier books were perhaps less than optimal, and usually a series doesn't recover from that. But this one sure has. The plot around the newly legal weed trade was particularly interesting. I can't rate individual elements like characterizations, plot, pacing, locale, but taken together, the book held my interest and was entertaining throughout. Reed still does a couple of stupid things (in the spirit of "what is that noise in the dark cellar? I think I'll go see....", or "Oh, an important clue that I have no intention of telling the police detective about") that make me want to scream, but they are minor, come early, and don't detract too much. Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series and more by Renee Pawlish.
Reed and weed - what a combination
Jodie Lundgren, operator of a marijuana store in Denver, hires PI Reed Ferguson to try and find out who is trying to steal a new marijuana growing process being developed by her brother, Jude. She hires Reed to go undercover in the store, but his snooping becomes a matter of life and death when Jude is murdered.
The Lady Who Sang High by Renee Pawlish is another entertaining offering in the Reed Ferguson mystery series. Pawlish takes the reader inside the growing marijuana scene in Colorado since legalization, and once again demonstrates that Reed Ferguson is the new tough-guy detective on the noir scene. Youâll be glued to your seat as Reed, his girlfriend, Willie, computer wizard, Cal, and the inept Goofball Brothers team up to find a murderer before he or she strikes again. Crisp action scenes, retro dialogue, and detailed (but, not too detailed) descriptions of Denver, strike just the right note as Reed quips and fumbles his way to the solution of another mind-blowing case.
The author sets this mystery up nicely, feeding readers a jumble of clues, some false, some just tricky, and keeping readers and Reed guessing until the very end.

Oh, and one point you need not worry about with this is that it is a complete story. No cliffhanger ending. For some of you this is the version you've been waiting for and it is offered free as I post this review.
I am unable to post links to Book 0 and Book 1 in the series, but here is a link to Book 2Deadly Webs: Unwoven- Book 2
    Deadly Webs Omnibus
Nothing entertains me more than a great mystery novel and this one definitely was a great read. As the widow of a cop I was able to relate to this storyline on so many levels, police officers and their dangerous lives and crazy hours, grief over the loss of a spouse that never goes away, for starters. And as a former nurse who also did child protective services for several years I could also relate to the children's issues. Hopefully I will get to read a lot more of this author's writing.
    Good read
This was a good read, fast paced and kept my interest. I wish there had been more fleshing out of the characters though. The unfolding of Grant's story was too slow for me. I know it was meant to be drawn out but sometimes I think authors drag it out too far. I hope there are more books with the two main characters and they get to develop more in front of our eyes. I am intrigued by where they could take us.
Good book but it could have been so much better
It was really exciting in the beginning. It could have kept going without all the crazy stuff. And then there was so much repetition and dragged on and on. I thought I would scream if Mocks flipped her Bic one more time or if Grant rubbed his ring again. And the villans just kept coming and getting away.
    Good read
Very good read. Complex characters and a plot full of twists. But a easy read because the plot is rational and if you try to figure out what will happen you can figure several outcomes. The most reasonable outcome was usually where the book would go.
