This series gets better every time
What made the experience of listening to Murder on Russian Hill the most enjoyable?
The narrator. K. Hazen is very talented. She creates a recognizable personality for each character, and gives the story a visual quality that keeps me interested and wishing the story didn't end. I also enjoyed the parallel story of Joshua's childhood.
What about Kelley Hazens performance did you like?
The way she narrates conversations among characters. You forget it's only one person telling you the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
I've listened to all the books in the series and have enjoyed the experience very much. Each book gets better than the previous one. I particularly enjoy how the characters have grown and how they get along and deal with the terrible business of being a cop. The combination of this series and the narrator is excellent. I'm hoping there are more books coming.
NEW APPROACH FOR SERIES - really great
This is a great series that just keeps picking up steam with every audiobook. The author chooses a new approach to telling the story - there are flashbacks and a journalist's notes - it makes the listening very exciting jumping around from the various perspectives. I really love the main character is a rock star and that we get to see his history as well. I feel like I'm watching the main character, Peyton, grow as a person with each novel. For those that are unfamiliar with the series - there is a family of characters - the cops in the precinct but also f the families of hte main characters - both blood and friends. Then there is always a case to be solved but also unfinished issues from past novels. I fell like I'm listening to a TV series . I think ML Hamilton is a very good writer - very easy to stay with and get involved in. And the narration is really great too. Each character is like it they come alive.
    I love this series!
This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I love the fact that the story takes place in San Francisco and the imagery is so well done. The author has created some great characters and the narrator brings them to life with their own distinctive voices. I love the consistency of both characters and narrator in this series. The story is original and full of twists. I love the fact that I hadn't figured out who the killer was until the very end. Also, this book brought up some thought provoking questions. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

    Very Good
This is a well written and fast moving cozy mystery with twists and turns of the plot that will keep you guessing until the end. I truly enjoyed this latest installment of this series. Well worth the credit.
New narrator is wonderful, best book of the series
I've been listening to all the books in the Booktown series in order, and I must say the narrator change up was very wise! I found the characters were MUCH more likeable in this book than any of the others. I had a hard time liking any of the main characters thus far, but this book made them all much more likeable, especially Angelica.
The story itself also was good, well developed & a nice cozy read. I really enjoy this author's work & I'm excited to finish up the last 2!
Okay story ruined by bad narration
Would you try another book from Lorna Barrett and/or Karen White?
I would definitely buy another book from Lorna Barrett, but I have no interest in listening to Karen White ever again. Karen routinely called one of the main characters, and in some instances even the main character, by the wrong name - I don't know if this was a problem with the text or with her narration. But it was confusing. It made it difficult to follow the plot lines or understand what was actually happening. Also her Texas accent for one of the characters was grating.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Karen White?
I liked the previous narrator, Cassandra Campbell.
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoy this series, but I feel like the story has started to flounder. Tricia has been questioning how she feels about her life but she is just lamenting about it, she's not doing anything to rectify it.
    THIS MYSTERY IS GREAT

Better Mystery, Romance not as good
I have been enjoying this series because I enjoy the characters particularly Mattie and Hurley, and Mattie makes me chuckle. In the first two books, the mysteries were perhaps not that well developed. In this book we move on to a much more complicated mystery which plays a bigger role in the book. I considered that a plus and I even listened up to 5 hours in one day to have it resolved. Also, I did not solve this one. That said though, I found the lack of romantic progress disappointing. In fact the developing romance has gone backwards instead of forward in this book. But I will definitely go on to the next one to see if it gets back on track! It's the same narrator as previous books and I really like her as Mattie but she does sometimes mispronounce words.
    A Frustrating Mystery
Would you try another book from Annelise Ryan and/or Jorjeana Marie?
I'll probably give the next book in the series a try and hope it improves. The first two were pretty good mysteries to keep me occupied in the car and distracted from how much I hate running while I work out, but this one got a bit too frustrating. Overall, the mystery was more intense and complex than the first two, which was good and I was wrong about the culprit almost until the minute it was revealed, which is always fun. Ryan was very nearly on the cusp of a great book.
But Mattie is decidedly inane in this book. Apparently, even when her life is in true danger, all she can think about is sex. In addition, although this book should be taking place 2012 or later (in the previous book, it was mentioned that Mattie's car is a 1992 and is 20 years old), Mattie and the other characters are massively technologically inept. Really - in 2012, Mattie only recently became acquainted with a cell phone? And apparently, no character has a web-enabled phone. Also - the monologuing!!! Learn how to deliver the details of the mystery without having the culprit provide a soliloquy on every single aspect of the crime at the end.

    Publisher: Matthew Iden
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 154 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Four unrelated murders. Nothing special in Washington DC. Not even good enough to make the evening news. But then a concerned police lieutenant approaches retired homicide detective Marty Singer with a simple fact that changes everything.
    They were all cops.
In a race to stop the killings, Marty tackles the case from the outside, chasing the killer from deadly Southeast DC to the heart of the Virginia gangland, on a mission to stop the spilling of yet more Blueblood.
    Members Reviews:
    too short
I enjoyed the storyline however I think it went to short but then again I have to get the next book in the series.
    Good detective story
Blueblood is a worthwhile but not excellent cop story set in the Washington DC area where Marty Singer is a retired cop with cancer working to see if several killings of policemen are related. Narration by Lloyd Sherr is outstanding.
A worthy addition to the genre!
Note: While this is Book 2 in the series, it works just fine as a stand alone.
Marty Singer returns to more private investigation work. His last case was forced upon him and hes reluctant to take on this new case. Hes still fighting cancer and wants to focus his time and energy on that and enjoying what he can of his early retirement. But an aging cop, Sam Bloch, asks for his help in looking into four seemingly unrelated murders scattered across a few precincts. Right away, Marty is intrigued. On the surface, nothing appears to link the cases. Yet as he digs into the details, he begins to wonder if he isnt dealing with a serial cop killer.
Once again, Matthew Iden delivers a captivating murder mystery. I really enjoyed Book 1 (A Reason to Live) and this book continues the same quality entertainment. Marty is a bit of a history buff, a little bit of a wise ass, and a sometimes lonely man who has his heart in the right pace. Amanda Lane, who we met in Book 1, continues to be his surrogate daughter. Shes graduating and has started applying for jobs, some of which could take her out of the DC metro area. Poor Marty has a little heart ache over that but would never ask Amanda to take a job closer to home if its not what she wanted.
The murder mystery itself was fascinating. There are details in each case that fit the theory of a serial cop killer, but then there are also a few details in some of the cases that dont fit. So its a bit of a jumble upon first inspection. I really enjoyed watching Marty dig into these cases. The cops were undercover, incorporating themselves into various gangs in the area. The author did a great job of showing how that undercover work affected the cops families.
Theres some nitty gritty goodness for this story and it gave this almost hard-boiled cop ambiance to the plot. I like that things are messy and that Marty has to keep reminding himself that not everyone (outside of certain professions like cops and medical personnel) can look at crime scene photos the way he does. While the gruesome violence is made crystal clear to the reader, the author doesnt linger over it. This isnt a horror flick; its a great PI crime story with a few horrific details.
The ending was satisfying. The murder mystery had me guessing at the details until the big reveal. Marty experiences some danger and putting the killer away is a little slice of bitter justice. All in all, an excellent read.
The Narration: Lloyd Sherr continues to be an excellent pick for Marty Singer. I like his voice for wise-ass Marty.

I'm not a fan of books with sexual violence to women.
I'm not a fan of books with sexual violence to women. It's just too disturbing for me, the love story part was nice. But I can't stomach the violence of rape.
    who gets in the car?
I liked the book well enough, but some of the situations made me think that the leading lady was thick in the head. No one gets it a car with a mugger... hell you are in a gas station for God sake... just made me go what the heck... and the on again off again thing was annoying... and sometimes the author left out who was taking care of the lead's dog... didn't feel right... let's go away for the weekend... oh I'm back home and the neighbor girl was watch it... like the dog was an afterthought. .. I did finish the book... but I won't read it again.

    Not bad; but not Parker.
Robert B. Parker Jesse Stone series continued by Michael Brandman is beginning to slip. The first two Jesse Stone mysteries done by Brandman were close in spirit to the Parker series. He did turn deputy Molly Grant into Charlie Sheen's housekeeper in Two and a Half Men; but in general kept Jesse's humanity intact. This selection did so as well. Unfortunately the works have become pretty formulaic as well as quite short in duration.
I still find a great deal to recommend in the continuing Jesse Stone series. They are pleasant listens as well as affirmations in the morality of treating people as you would wish to be treated. A Chief of Police who encounters and takes down bullies of all stripes is a nice read for those of us who feel strongly about the current culture rife with so many different types of bullying. I continue to recommend the Jesse Stone series. Even if not as enthusiastically as I did when Robert Parker was the writer.
ROBERT PARKER'S JESSE STONE DOES HIM PROUD
Would you listen to Robert B. Parker's Damned If You Do again? Why?
Yes, it's a good story. Michael Brandman captured the true Jesse Stone, who I believe was Parker's best character.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The story unfolds like an onion. Danger ramps up as it moves along.
What does James Naughton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His voice makes Jesse Stone come to life - the mid-west/California sound. Naughton does an excellent job with the New England accents as well.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Jesse Stone and Molly - they crack me up.
    Exposé
Another Jesse Stone with all my favorite characters. Robert Parker's mysteries take serious subjects and educate the reader/listener with humor and compassion. James Naughton is my favorite voice for the Paradise police chief and his team. I suspect I am preaching to the choir!
    one of Stone's better
What made the experience of listening to Robert B. Parker's Damned If You Do the most enjoyable?
Jessie at his best. Good narrator.
What other book might you compare Robert B. Parker's Damned If You Do to and why?
    anything with Stone in Paradise
What does James Naughton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    depth of character
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    no. wanted to savor
    Quite Disappointing
I've read all of Parker's Spenser and Jesse Stone novels and while the author chosen to continue the Spenser stories (Ace Atkins) seems to have hit the mark and is highly recommended, Michael Brandman is way off in his attempt to capture Jesse Stone. This book just never seems to get going.

CHRISTOPHER PRICE DOES JUSTICE TO THE RMJ NOVELS!
What did you love best about Harbingers?
I have read all the Repairman Jack Novels by F. Paul Wilson. What I love about listening to them is the performance by the narrator CHRISTOPHER PRICE. The early releases of the RMJ novels The Tomb, Bloodline and By The Sword had a horrible narrator; but all the RMJ releases with the narrator of Christopher Price are simply awesome. Have purchased them all. Keep an coming.
Repairman Jack is still the best!
This series is still fast paced and just as interesting as the first. Listening to these back to back is a breeze and a pleasure.

Shortly after receiving the gift, Baxter is found dead, with Savannah kneeling over him, bloody knife in hand, and the rare cookbook has disappeared. Brooklyn knows her sister didn't kill him, and she suspects the missing cookbook might lead to the real villain.
    Critic Reviews:

    I loved this book
I only wish more of her book were available on audio. Narrator was excellent as well as the story was great.
    A little boring
Story wasn't that interesting, however it did make me want to cook. The narrator makes Savannah sound like an imbecile and five year old.
Great book, series leaves you wanting the next one
What did you love best about A Cookbook Conspiracy?
Kept me guessing with interesting twists and turns
    Any additional comments?
Listen to one and you will want to follow the series.
    I love Brookyn!
If you could sum up A Cookbook Conspiracy in three words, what would they be?
I love Brooklyn! She is so amazing. I hated that Audible didn't have the other three books, so I went and ordered the other 3 not on audible. Brooklyn and her odd family are so enjoyable.
What did you like best about this story?
I hated that Audible didn't have the other three books, so I went and ordered the other 3 not on audible. Brooklyn and her odd family are so enjoyable. I find myself rereading these books so often. This one showcased a different sister, and More to our Mysterious Derrick's background.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book didn't have Minka in it, that made me sad. But I so didn't like how it was more about cooking than it was about books. But, its ok, once I got past the food fact I loved the book mystery, still Less About Books!
