  • 013: Almost Dying On Shae's First Hunting Experience, Finding Your Breaking Point, Artificial Stress Prepares You for Real Stress

    Send us Fan Mail

Dakota & Shae recount the time they almost got stranded and developed hypothermia on Shae's first hunting excursion.  The point of sharing this story was to talk about how testing yourself, finding your breaking point in a controlled environment, will hopefully help you make better decisions when the shit does really hit the fan.

Making good decisions in a stressful environment is best practiced where the consequences are less drastic. That way, when the consequences are real, hopefully the practice you've done will help you make good decisions when you're really stressed or frantic.

  • 012: Understanding Energy Balance & Caloric Needs, The Human Metabolism, How to Start Changing Your Lifestyle

    Send us Fan Mail

Today's episode starts with a little rant about corporate blame shifting, leading the consumers to believe the  chronic health crisis we're facing is a product of our own poor decision making and not a product of shady business practices and lobbying.

Our hope for today's show is to give you some insight into how your body works and understand the importance of energy balance (aka- calories taken in vs. calories burned everyday) allowing you to make better informed decisions each day. To not let you simply be told by marketing what to do and when to do it.

There are some actionable tips & strategies you can use starting today that will improve the health of you and your family.  We talk about community supported agriculture, portion control, meal preparation, extra movement, sleep, hydration, and much more.

  • 011: The Tangential Episode: An Unfiltered Dive Into the Brains of Shae & Dakota

    Send us Fan Mail

Today's episode is tangential to say the least. You could call it the random show, we just sat down to have a good conversation. This is actually an episode we recorded back in 2020 and we just decided to release this.

We cover falling off the discipline path, children's books that could benefit a lot of adults, why hard training is so great, trips to Colorado, snowboarding, the importance of wrestling & Jiu-jitsu for self defense and police officers.

  • 010: Emotional Trauma Held In the Body, Benefits of Therapy & How I Get Out of A Negative Mindset

    Send us Fan Mail

Today's episode isn't going to be for everyone. It's a little heavy.

Seeing as the title of this show calls for us to get uncomfortable I thought it was a good idea for me to do the same.

I decided to discuss something that happens to me each year at the same time that I've linked back to a traumatic event earlier in my life. Something I haven't talked about publicly for the last 15 years.

I also talk about therapy, why I think there shouldn't be a stigma around it, and why I eventually went.

The time of this recording happened right around when I experience this and it made sense to do an episode on it. I hope you find some value in it if you are, or have suffered trauma. Don't be afraid to talk to someone about it.

  • 009: Greg Everett | What Being Tough REALLY Means, Using Discomfort As Fuel For Growth & Becoming Self Reliant

    Send us Fan Mail

Today's episode is one I am so happy to share with you all. I have followed him for years and this was one of the most value packed conversations I've had.

Our guest today is Greg Everett (@Catalyst Athletics), who is a world renowned olympic weightlifting coach, elite competitor in the tactical games, author,  was a nationally ranked weightlifting competitor himself, and all around bad ass.

He just released his new book, Tough: Building True Mental, Physical, & Emotional Toughness For Success & Fulfillment

Toughness consists of 4 interdependent components:
    1. Character
    2.Capability
    3.Capacity
    4. Commitment

We dive into each of these and how they apply directly to your life and how to develop these traits.

We were able to discuss some of his past experiences and current habits along with the practices and tactics of people like Marcus Aurelius (Roman Emperor) & Viktor Fankl (A Man's Search for Meaning) so we can go through adversity and not be psychologically wrecked but come back EVEN better after it.

I would highly recommend  grabbing his new book, it's a decision that you will not regret.

  • 007: Why You Should Be Excited to Suck At Something, Benefits of A Beginner's Mindset & Using Exercise to Be More Present In Life

    Send us Fan Mail

You have the opportunity to continually learn new things in life. We are firm believers in doing new things, even things you potentially suck at.

You should be excited to try things you suck at because it gives you an opportunity to get uncomfortable and grow as a person. This growth effect is magnified by age we have found, because there's more resistance to overcome with age.

As we get older we seem to try fewer and fewer new tasks. We feel scared, judged, or embarrassed to suck at something. Overcome that fear and continually grow and evolve by engaging in new things.

Being a beginner will help you be a better teacher, leader, or increase your ability to help people when explaining a task new to them. Now go get uncomfortable!

  • 004: How to Avoid Being Part of America's Chronic Disease Crisis, 575k Hospitalizations Preventable, Where Health Really Comes From

    Send us Fan Mail

In today's episode we discuss the real issue behind America's health crisis. This country's approach to public health is akin to using band aids for gunshot wounds. It's just not going to solve the problem.

I want to make it clear we are not suggesting anyone to stop listening to health officials. What we are suggesting is that as individuals we take more responsibility for our personal health and the health of our friends, families, and communities.

There has been new data released showing the link between being overweight, obese, or morbidly obese to increased severity of symptoms regarding Covid-19 and we have provided the links to these public studies below.

The goal of this episode is to bring awareness to the fact that we are responsible for our health and can do things every single day to give ourselves a fighting change against disease by moving more, eating better food, and reducing distress in our lives.
