Emma Faraday, newly appointed head of the secret unit, is determined to tie up loose ends. And Blake is a very loose end. He's been evading them for years, but finally they've picked up his trace. Exciting, fast paced and well written.
Would you listen to The Time to Kill again? Why?
Not for some time as I would remember the story too well.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character Carter Blake is well developed and in such a way that while the story is gripping, you want to now more about this mysterious character.
Which character as performed by Eric Meyers was your favourite?
Carter Blake - the main character. As the story unfolds so do some of the secrets of this characters past. His back story is another thread woven through the book and creates interest in his past.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No - just a great story. Looking forward to more by Mason Cross.
    Any additional comments?
It will be interesting to read more of the Carter Blake novels. Each can stand alone but will be interesting to see how Blake's history brought him to where he is.
    10/10 Would listen to again
Absolutely fantastic. Truly gripping story and immersive narration! 100% my kind of book. would definitely recommend to anyone who likes the genre

    Publisher's Summary:
Death of a Washington Madame is Book 3 of Warren Adler's nine-book Fiona Fitzgerald Mystery Series, currently in development as a new TV series entitled Capitol Crimes.
Detective Fiona Fitzgerald is an unlikely force for justice in Washington, DC's predominantly male police force. As a Senator's daughter and top investigator in the homicide division of the Metropolitan Police Department, Fiona maneuvers between two vastly different worlds, moving quickly from opulent State galas to gritty crime scenes. Born into the elite social circles of the nation's capital, and armed with intimate knowledge of the true face of the political establishment, Fiona is determined to expose the chicanery concealed within the highest echelons of the American political aristocracy.
Old money, old secrets. The elderly mother of the Governor of Virginia, an icon of Washington society, is found dead and sexually assaulted in her posh Washington, DC, residence. Metropolitan Police detective Fiona Fitzgerald investigates the horrifying crime. As a senator's daughter, she has the advantage of knowing the world of Washington's privileged.
Young Martine, the accused, has no advantages. He was not raised in a family with political leverage and does not understand the inner-workings and secrets of Washington's politicians. Then there is the devoted servant, the status-hungry daughter-in-law, the drugs, power, and money - but where does the truth lie within this complicated family drama?
Through it all, Fiona wrestles with her own feelings about marriage as she considers marriage to a former general, who is now mounting a massive offensive for her hand. Will an inside look at one Washington marriage - and all of its dirty little secrets - help her choose? Fiona must battle both privilege and prejudice as she uncovers the inevitable truth behind the political facade.

    Gripping mystery
I really enjoyed this book. Though this is the third book in the series, I had not read the previous books before starting this one, but I never felt like I was missing out on something explained in the previous books. This book felt like a realistic look at Washington politics and racial tensions. The characters were interesting and well-developed and the plot was masterfully woven. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book narrated by Stevie Puckett. I enjoyed her narration and I felt like she gave an authentic voice to each of her characters. If you're looking for a gripping mystery with lots of twists and turns, I highly recommend this book.
    A realistic, political drama
Death of a Washington Madame is a very realistic political drama/thriller revealing the dark secrets of the political life. Fiona FitzGerald is a very strong and likable female protagonist and the book deals with a lot of sexism and racism.
However, this book wasn't for me and it's just me. There's too much politics in it and it's not something we haven't seen/read/heard before. I don't enjoy watching House of Cards either, so it doesn't mean that YOU shouldn't read/listen to this book. This book is the 3rd in the Fiona FitzGerald mysteries, but that isn't an issue at all. It is a standalone.
The narrator Stevie Pucket has a fine, clear and pleasant voice and it's her first fictional audiobook.

    Thoroughly enjoyable
What did you like most about Murder in the Afternoon?
I really enjoy the fact that the story is set in the West Riding, and also that it evokes the period just after the first world war. The story runs along and the interaction between Kate Shackleton and Mr Sykes is well done
What other book might you compare Murder in the Afternoon to, and why?
The other books about this detective are similar in that they have the same characters and settings, also the plot lines are good
Have you listened to any of Anne Dovers other performances? How does this one compare?
The performance of Anne Dover adds to the story's enjoyment
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I like to savour these books and listen to them, with the light off, last thing at night.
The best in the series so far
This book kept my attention from start to finish. The plot was interesting and plausible and I didn't guess the ending. It was very enjoyable and I look forward to reading the rest of this series of books.
    Interesting story
Really enjoyed the story. Much more interesting than book two in the series. Like the narrator.

You won't stop reading until you're finish
Very good story ;very well documented. The reason I didn't give five stars is that they are grammar mistakes and the writing style it's not litterature .But once you beging the book you can't stop .I would recommand the book if you want to improve your French by reading it's every day language easy to understand strait sentences no complicated writing. In case you don't know French the translation will do as it's the story which makes the book.I'm French and knew most of the places the story takes place.
    Opportunity missed?
JV says he starts a story with no real view of where it will end up. How true. Here he has a great intro and some good protagonists but wastes them with a rambling plot which goes nowhere for a lot of the time, but fills a few pages, I suppose. Not bad and, from the point of view of a student of French, interesting for vocab. This could have been much better as a cat and mouse with just Alpha and Legarec, but it was his book after all. I'll read others by JV certainly.
    dynamic and easy read
I enjoyed this book, the story was a little far fetched perhaps but fast paced, full of lovable characters and very dynamic. Cannot comment on the language and quality of editing as French is not my native tongue. It was easy to read though despite "passe simple" throughout. I would read morebof this author.
Good read in French, gripping right to the end!
Great up to date references and a voyage through France in a page turner type of storytelling. I enjoyed the plot thoroughly, a good balanced one.

Mystery story about witches and missing friends
I enjoy listening/reading paranormal stories but this one was quite slow. It took me longer than usual to get through because it did not hold my interest or attention well.
If you like slow mystery stories with Witches, tarot cards, Mediums, Police, minimum romance, you might want to give it a try... Otherwise you might want to skip this read/listen.
**This audiobook was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion **
    interesting story, about witches
I received this book from eblast and this is my unbiased opion. A little slow. Full of witch lore, and alot of discussion about taro card. a small bit of romance. Worth listening to if your interested in witches, and Wiccan.
Mystery, Romance, Suspense and Magic Tarot Cards..
Could you see Dhá being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
Dhá is the bundle of The Hermit, The Devil, and The Tower.
    > The Hermit - Someone goes missing..
Caitlin just can't get a break. Her friend goes missing, and she has to jump in feet first to solve the mystery. This mystery has a little romance, suspense and magic tarot cards.
    > The Devil - Look beyond the obvious - a dead body turns up..
In this second story, Caitlin still has to find her friends and the situation is dire. Will Caitlin run out of time?
    > The Tower - Shatter illusions - a fight with the mafia..
This is the last book in the bundle. I don't want to reveal any spoilers about Caitlin's story.
Leah Frederick did a pretty decent job with the narration.

    Publisher's Summary:
A dramatic crime thriller from the best-selling author of Without Consent.
For pathologist and forensic physician Dr Anya Crichton, the death of a gang rape victim hours before she is due to give evidence at trial is more than only a tragedy. The psychotic Harbourn brothers, the girl's accused attackers, now look like they're getting away with two horrific crimes.
    Members Reviews:
In this fourth novel in the Anya Crichton series, ...
In this fourth novel in the Anya Crichton series, Anya returns from her her visit to the US in time to give evidence in a gang rape trial involving three brothers from the very nasty Harbourn family. The girl who was raped, Giverny, has already had to give evidence at one mistrial is now expected to go through it all again. When Giverny's lawyer, Natasha and Anya arrive to collect Giverny for Court, they find she has apparently committed suicide, although Anya is convinced the Harbourns are somehow involved.
It's not long before the Harbourn brothers are suspected of another rape of two sisters with one girl murdered and one left critically injured and this time Anya is resolved to find enough evidence to convict the brothers and put them away for a very long time.
This book doesn't quite generate the tension and fear that might be expected from such gruesome events. I felt as if all the ingredients were there but the action just needed to be ramped up a notch. Anya's friend detective Kate Farrar, who featured in the previous novel, takes a back seat again in this novel which is a pity because Kate was turning into an interesting character and I expected to see her feature more in some police-focused action.
There are some interesting twists in the plot and the outcome is not as obvious as you might at first think. The book raises the issues of the hurdles that women who are raped have to go through when giving evidence at trials, the injustices in the legal system and the impact of the crime on family members as well as the victim themselves.
    4th in the series
I actually enjoyed this Australian thriller a lot more than I expected that I would. I generally hate to read series books out of order, so I am not quite sure how this fourth book in a series came to my attention originally since I have not read the previous three novels. But, after finishing it, I was quite relieved that the book worked quite well as a standalone - there were only a few moments when I had that feeling that I was missing something that had been covered in the previous novels in the series. And it didn't seem like any of the previous books' mysteries had been solved.
As for this novel, the plot held a few surprises along the way- which always speeds up the pacing! But while it was a fast and fun read, with an entertaining plot, I had a few problems with the book - particularly with the villains. The gruesome and terrible attacks on the two sisters - horrifically described in this very medical-heavy prose - became less serious as more and more descriptions about the Harbourn family were described. They were "real life" versions of the Duck Tales' main villains, the Beagle Boys.

    An Oldie but a Goodie!
My first encounter with Fritz Leiberâs short story âA Pail of Airâ was in March 1956 via the X Minus One radio show. At the time, I could still not read or write and was just undergoing the eye surgery and physical therapy which would correct my vision problems and allow me the read and write several years in the future; I had a lot of catching up to do. Until I was able to read without migraine headaches, X Minus One was one of my few lifelines to Science Fiction and of all the dramatizations, âA Pail of Airâ was always my favorite, perhaps in part because the protagonist was only a little younger than I was at my first hearing.
For a story which was first published in December 1951, when I was ten years old, it is amazing how current this story has remained over the past 65 years. When the discovery of new exoplanets is no longer front page news and our local corner of the Milky Way Galaxy appears to be littered with Hot Jupiterâs which are the norm while our Solar System is the exception and planetary models speculate on the orbital ejection of Gas Giants, a wayward Brown Dwarf is not that hard to believe. Speaking of wayward celestial objects, for 2016-10-22 check Google News for âmassive 9th planetâ. The universe may be a lot stranger place than even Fritz Leiber imagined.
Download a copy of âA Pail of Airâ, you will not be disappointed. If there is a young science fiction reader in your family, make sure they have access; this book should have been tagged for young-adults and it was not.
    definitely worth reading
A very short read, only about 20 pages. I found the story interesting, although it feels like an introduction to a longer story, and possibly a bit elementary (something that might catch the interest of someone in their early teens). It may not be 100% realistic, but the concept of this book is pretty cool and the author does a good job at painting an image that the reader can portray fairly easily in their head. There is some "violence" in the book, like people being frozen solid and crushed by collapsing buildings but that's about it. I was only interested in reading this particular short story, not the rest of Fritz Leiber's work so this was perfect for me. It doesn't look good on my book shelf though because it's so thin that there is no spine with the title on it, it's basically a pamphlet; but the picture on amazon is exactly what the cover looks like.
    buyer beware
Like one of the other reviewers I was looking for a copy of "64-Square Madhouse" which is included in the short story collection "A Pail of Air". This is NOT that collection, but only the single story of that title. To be fair, the details for the description of the paperback version does correctly indicate that the book is only 22 pages long. But the description of the kindle version claims to be more than 100 pages long; which is false.

(Jack Colder, The Premise)
Andy Crossfield is a first-time author, a fact that may seem hard to believe to the listeners of The Premise.
Set in the very near future, the plot evolves quickly, moving from a scientist who finds himself killing his coconspirator to a prison corporation CEO who devises the deaths of 13 inmates in order to cover up his larger crimes to a famous criminologist/mystery writer who becomes entangled with a beautiful, violet-eyed geneticist and tries to uncover why she is being targeted.

Strap yourself in for one helluva ride. The Premise is an adventure you won't want to turn off!

    Enjoy this well written/narrated novel!
The Premise is a well written novel about scientific discoveries, danger, suspense and the power of acceptance. I normally do not get digital books whether they are EPUB or audio unless I have an actual copy first to read. This book has been a game changer for me in that I was so involved and intrigued by what was to come next! I will definitely be looking to get a hard copy of this book. The one thing that was at times distracting was some of the sound effects. It was almost in some parts more movie-Esk than audio book feeling which was again somewhat distracting. The voice actors did a great job! So many different voices particularly given by Anthony LeRoy Lovato. Wow! Brittany Dean Fullmer excellently executed the feminine voices and brought out a well-rounded performance for audiences to listen to.
I look forward to the next novel!
