Try folding and crossing your arms like you usually would. If you do it two or more times, notice how you do it the same way. Now cross your arms again, this time the opposite way. And yes, unconsciously, you'll cross your arms as you did earlier. Doing it in reverse makes you feel awkward. This exercise is the perfect illustration of what happens when change is introduced and how we automatically react to the challenge of doing something new. In this episode, we talk about getting creative with change and implementing it, leading to the path of least resistance and ensuring project success. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Why anyone who has ever worked or led an organization to take on strategic shifts understands how CHANGE is not easy. Humans, as we are, doing things in a new way causes us to feel uncomfortable. However, it takes getting awkward and, at times, becoming open and accepting of the pain of change to scale and grow. ✔️ How gamification overthrows a potentially boring session of long presentation slides into a fun learning activity that keeps learners engaged, motivated and, importantly, maintains better retention of information. By getting creative and getting a little silly about change management activities makes a huge difference. ✔️ Be open to the numerous ways to ensure that a project runs successfully in your organization. Access and maximize resources to figure out how you can do things outside the norm for the team in every meeting. Kim Congleton, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Owner of New View Strategies, shares that this strategy reinforces that change will feel awkward and different, and it's going to take a while, but people will get used to it. ✔️ Understand that the key to change management is empathy — when every individual involved in the company's processes understands how everything and everyone works, they are best able to support each other with compassion and sensitivity. What happens if the project becomes a failed implementation, and how do you recover? In this new episode, understand how to use root cause analysis when your plan doesn't work, acknowledge it, and create the next steps to move forward. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Testing is a good strategy for recovery if you've had a failure in your system because you may genuinely not know what the problem is. So go back to the drawing board with testing in that area to figure that out much faster. ✔️ The "happy path" in your BC/NAV system happens almost often in the 20 percent, but the critical path is to make sure that you have tested 80 percent of your processes the least, to be realistic about the things that will occur most of the time. ✔️ Kim Congleton, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Owner of New View Strategies shares that some people don't realize that testing is a skill, and it takes a confident person who likes to break things to be a good tester. "Know that you can also be trained to test. Make sure that you've got a good team that understands what they need to do for testing, understands the different processes to ensure the performance and connections are ready for go-live". ✔️ Doing refresher training after a go-live helps. Teaching the main processes before the actual testing reinforces the training and solidifies that process in their mind. ✔️ Acknowledge the root cause of what happened. Then, learn from what happened and implement improvements moving forward. Don't let it stall your project, and don't give up. Instead, retrace a little and fix some things and continue moving forward with that progress. ✔️ Think about the times when this has happened to your company? Think about when you've had some failures, and especially if you've had some things where people gave up or where people just weren't able to move forward? What was the root cause as you reflect on that? Can we change too fast? Imagine what happens when you rush to bake a Brie cheese in the oven, and it ends up getting burned; this is also pretty much what happens when companies implement a new ERP system and do it quickly with the timeline that was too aggressive. The result? Burnout, and you can guarantee a failed implementation. Tune in this new season as we talk about Change Management and Cheese of the Get Your New View show with Kim Congleton and Kerry Peters. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ A project that fails to implement also fails your people's trust and respect. The skepticism that arises with the next project and the following changes is almost more complicated than the initial loss of confidence. ✔️ Proper communication is vital in ensuring a plan is set in place should changes arise. How do we avoid a failed implementation and come up with ways for early detection of the situation? ✔️ We can't stress enough how important it is to ensure that you have multiple rounds of testing and training built into the project with your BC/NAV system. We've all seen how going through that first round, and you're always going to find something that may be working wrong anywhere between 25 to 30% percent because it's impossible to be perfect. It's critical to make sure that you have those checks and balances and assess where you're at and figure out if you have a problem as soon as you can. ✔️ Almost often, the plan you create on Day 1 of the system implementation will change over time. Being realistic is critical when things change and knowing how to deal with that. The key is to constantly monitor it to make sure you're hitting those milestones in your BC/NAV system and performing the way it needs to do. ✔️ Maximize the feedback mechanism from your team. What is the thing that is going to give you an early indication that things are not going right? And what are the questions that you need to ask that maybe you haven't thought of that will prompt that? Welcome back to this season as we talk about change management and cheese! Kerry Peters and Kim Congleton share the particulars and best practices we do here at New View Strategies to get your organization poised for growth and finally execute that master plan! Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ At New View Strategies, we value communication as crucial in working towards the same goal. The secret to our success is maximizing the tools and staying focused on the essential things; instead of doing ten other things. As long as we focus on those goals, we hit the bigger goals. ✔️ Setting up goals in a one, three, five, and a ten-year plan is instrumental in helping you stay focused on what's essential to reach your goals. ✔️ Revisiting as a business ritual is a big deal. Establishing weekly and quarterly communications about what's happening and what people are accomplishing makes a difference in making incremental progress. Ensure that you get everybody in the know; people involved in the project from top management to the bottom line, understand and execute their crucial roles. ✔️ Stay focused on your goals by identifying what's truly important to your organization. For us, it's our people, tools, and technology. Setting up the process and identifying short-and long-term plans allows us to track our progress in increments and support that goal until its completion. ✔️ Flexibility is having a plan but adapting to surprises. The pandemic brought us immense challenges and also breakthrough opportunities. The goal-setting process in the short and long term keeps us on track with exactly what we're doing while still allowing us to be flexible with whatever is coming our way. In this new episode of the Get Your New View podcast, Kim Congleton and I, the New View Strategies co-owners, sit in for a necessary conversation on change management and cheese. What happens when you have no cheese? Specifically, what does it look like if you don't have a plan for change management? The words that come to mind are "chaos" and "unfinished projects" when this happens! Ultimately, no change management plan is a significant indicator that people aren't on the same page. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Many companies have a list that goes on for years and isn't making any progress. For most of the project requests from our customers, we help them work on their extensive list of things to accomplish, not knowing which ones to work on, figuring out how they can use existing or providing additional resources to help them get those done. ✔️ Know that silos are one of the most dangerous things to communication that can ever exist within an organization. These siloed organizations that are not communicating are entirely stopping the progress of those unfinished projects. ✔️ Why there's no such thing as over-communication. Ensure that everybody understands the project that you're working on, what it means for each of those groups, and what everybody's expectations are to participate in the project. Employees need to hear things two, three, to four times before they can grasp the whole purpose of change. ✔️ Getting people's attention away from their day job is often a challenge. At New View Strategies, we train adult learners and corporate employees by using overcommunication. As a result, people will probably catch one out of the three times of what you've said, and there's a chance that they got that communication which equates to progress. ✔️ How to create an action plan for organizational change. Reflect on your list of unfinished projects and think about what would happen if you apply a method, and think about prioritization, timelines, available resources, and even resources that you don't have. They could get. What would that incomplete list look like if you applied some planning to it? Welcome back to the change management and cheese series with Kim Congleton and Kerry Peters of New View Strategies. In this episode, we're talking about how many flavors of cheese are there, like the infinite choices we have as far as change is concerned. Since the pandemic started, companies have dealt with the "cheese in a blender" situation these days. So how do you deal with the infinite choices and prioritize your change? How do you choose? Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Why using the concept of Opportunity Benefit will help you make better decisions. When making a choice that saves you time, what else can benefit you by opening up that additional time or those other capabilities? If you have implemented a change that promotes growth rather than efficiency, understand that efficiency might come in later. ✔️ Many companies just totally get paralyzed by the number of choices and then don't choose. So that never turns out well. ✔️ How to make an action plan. Take out your whiteboard, your post-its, and get your team together to spend time and get creative with this. Create an extensive list of everything that you would improve if you could? All of those different things have different drivers behind them. So figure out which of those things are really on your radar when you prioritize things. ✔️ Overcome analysis paralysis in your company. It boils down to what's truly important to you; as a leadership group, you've got to sit down and say what is essential? What do we want to do this year? And it can't be that everything is necessary because you have to choose. Remember that "If everything's important, nothing is." ✔️ Understand that if you find out later, you made the wrong decision, you're going to learn something by going in that direction. So never be afraid to fail in that area as long as you're learning. At least you've moved, and that's what companies forget. What is your organization's appetite for change? In this new episode of the Get Your New View podcast, Kim Congleton and I, the New View Strategies co-owners, sit in for a necessary conversation on how much change your organization can take. And why setting realistic timelines are essential to avoid getting slammed into place and having a bad result because of that. Essential points covered in this episode: ✔️Whether it's moving into this new building or upgrading to software, what people forget to do is ask themselves, is it a realistic timeline? Anticipating the time it takes for design, set-up, training, or testing, there's a lot more detail on that. For example, it's going to be 80 hours of user acceptance testing, and they think that those 80 hours will happen in two weeks. ✔️ When we think of projects that have gone through too quickly, the worst consequences are failed user adoption—not having gotten proper buy-in and the right training with why we're making a change, why we're doing it differently. ✔️ Projects, where testing doesn't get done are projects that fail. If you want your people to do that, making that space for them to do that is critical. It's essential not to burn them out by adequately identifying time, resources, and how quickly you're going to go. ✔️If you have people doing their regular day job and doing the projects on top of and you're trying to do something in six months, which really should be stretched out to a year to be a more realistic timeline, you can burn your people out quickly. And then to your point, the user adoption and you find it goes downhill with it. ✔️Leadership requires being present and continuing to tell the team that they are making progress toward their goal. Doing so shows support and says a clear message of what the priorities for growth are. ✔️How have you dealt with the timeline on projects in the past? Did you get them right — was it too long? Was it too short? And how would you like that to happen differently? It's a great way to start thinking about that because we often repeat our behavior. Why are there five different kinds of cheese on my plate? In this new episode of the Get Your New View podcast, Kim Congleton and I, the New View Strategies co-owners, engage in an informative and eye-opening discussion on identifying the different types of people in your organization and how they react to change management.
Essential points covered in this episode: ✔️ The pioneers are the people that always mbrace new stuff. They are called early adopters, the ones that are at the front of the line. They're ready to ride that new roller coaster no matter where and how fast it goes. These people are on the bleeding edge of technology like they're always kind of pushing it.
✔️ The Yes people always want to get on board and support what needs to be done.
✔️ The followers are those who jump on board after seeing the first two groups going forward.
✔️ The skeptics are the ones who don't see how a new program or process is going to work.
✔️ The C.A.V.E. People stand for Citizens Against Virtually Everything. They believe that change is difficult or our processes are too complex. Seemingly, no system will ever work in the history of the world for them.
✔️ It is critical to figure out your mix of these five types of people, each one requires a different kind of soft skill to articulate the benefits of change in whatever project you're working on and get them to work together as a team with your business.
✔️ Write down the five different types and put the names of your people in those columns. Examine what makes up your group, assess how that's going to affect your project and help them get past their fear of change.

More valuable insights about cheese and change management in this new episode of the Get Your New View podcast. Our question for you: If prepackaged change is happening, is that a real thing Essential points covered in this episode: ✔️ Many companies have gone through an upgrade or have implemented improvements and out-of-the-box changes but didn't take the opportunity to explore the benefits of change. ✔️ Businesses often think of it as a simple thing of being "just an upgrade." Along with that comes process change; therefore, training is necessary to incorporate what we're using to understand precisely how that's going to fit. ✔️ If you're somebody who's in charge of change management, IT systems, and financial systems, and that kind of stuff, there is always the responsibility to spend some time reading the release notes. It's a super nerdy recommendation, yet super essential to understand what was coming with that upgrade and know how everything gets incorporated into the things your company is doing is a big deal. ✔️ Think about the opportunities that you have coming up with the upgrades? What's getting past you that maybe you haven't had a chance to examine for change? And what is it that you can do to explore to find opportunities buried in that prepackaged thing so you can advocate for your company for different things that you can improve? We're back talking about change management and cheese. In this new episode of the Get Your New View podcast, the New View Strategies co-owners, Kim Congleton, and I host this critical conversation on the alternatives if a company can't change. What if an organization genuinely can't? What if your hands are tied and are not able to? Essential points covered in this episode: ✔️ Explore the options of how your company could upgrade or do something else by a different program, figuring out what to do, and work around the limitations to make some of the changes happen. Get creative and start thinking about what else could be done, and document what the hindrances were. ✔️ Dealing with a limitation with money, you could control your mindset, what you think about change, and how you could improve your system by being willing to do things differently. ✔️ Learn to let go of those assumptions and take steps towards small incremental changes and focusing on the process. ✔️ What is it that you can break down into smaller steps and change differently? Think about your optimization of what you're doing with your company. Are there things you already have, but why aren't you using them? If you can't think of any of those things, ask your team. They'll tell you there's always something out there that people feel has a better way to do something.
