Less than two weeks before we sat down with local pizza entrepreneur, Johnny, from Johnny's Pizza, his company was engulfed in a suspicious and racist post that went viral. This post spread quickly.
Although initially dismissed by Johnny as a joke, in reality, a fake account was created with his profile picture and screen captured with hate speech against black people.
Johnny talks about what happened, the FBI investigate, out of state death threats, and Facebook subpoenas, and the fallout that has impacted his family, (which is staying in a separate hotel because of the death threats), his business, and the platform that this situation has afforded Johnny to talk about these issues.
Johnny is 10 years in recovery and has had some run-ins with the law. We talk about how people in that situation are "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" when it comes to being given the benefit of the doubt by public opinion.
Johnny answers the question: "What do you say to people who want proof?"
Hear Johnny's thoughts on what he believes is next for the future of dining. What the changes forced on businesses due to COVID-19 caused many restaurants to pivot to offer curbside that has fundamentally changed the dining experience.
"All that did is take fast-casual, and now we're competing with Chick-fil-A. The mom-and-pop-pizzeria-experience is gone."
"Executing on the quality of food that is delivered, that is the niche. That's what's going to be the difference-maker for people who are still going to want the dining out experience. I just think that they're going to have to tweak it and say, I want the food of the dine-out experience, not the actual dining experience."
How do you discover your innate gifts? How do you find out what they are? Traci shares about her process that came from her own life experience. How do you discover your "zone of genius." Zone of Genius is what you were made for, it's the shape of the puzzle piece that is "you" and how you "fit" into the world around you. She asks people to have people ask themselves: What are things that people have said about you over the years that has surprised you?
The irony for many people is that their gift is usually found in an area that they once thought of as a weakness. Traci has always been able to spot incongruencies, even as a child. But no one likes to be called out as an adult by a child and this would often result in her getting in "trouble" for what she perceived as speaking the truth. Now her discernment and visionary qualities are the backbones of her business.
Sarah shares the story of the first time she realized what her innate gift and how once she realized now she had all this evidence throughout her life supporting it and how it has created grounded confidence that she can be in alignment with that and that allows her to serve on a whole other level.
Everything you tell yourself as a story. Right? All our reality is our perception. So why don't you come up with a story that works for you instead of against you? - Traci PhilipsQuestion? Why do I have all of the trappings of success that you would expect and I still internally don't feel filled?
Answer: You're operating from your zone of excellence (your resume and accomplishments), not your zone of genius (who you are innate). You've told yourself this is how you're supposed to show up, as opposed to actually showing up as who you are. Because the only way you can feel fulfilled is if you are being who you are.
I think a lot of people think of self-worth and confidence is one and the same and they're distinctly different. So when people say, how can I be confident and not arrogant? I answer that the arrogance piece is more tied to self-worth than it is confidence.
Confidence is often just doing it enough times, you'll be confident.
Jenny overcomes her fear and demonstrates bravery as she is a little hesitant because she's scared something will happen beyond her control. Stacey does a reading on her using Tarot cards. They discuss the results together and unpack the possible meanings.
We talk about how some people are scared of what they might hear, but it is a safe place and done in the presence of someone that wants to encourage you on the path.
Sarah gets her physic reading saying that she is going to have changes in her life soon but it is mostly going to be around her career.
Jenny gets a tarot card reading and how she needs to go with the flow more and just accept the changes that are happening in her life and stop micromanaging. They discuss the challenges of this particular situation.
We talk about the difference between intuition and ego and how to let your intuition come through with plenty of examples from Stacey.
Stacey does a show every Wednesday at 8 pm on her youtube page if you'd like to know more.
Stay tuned until the end of this episode to hear some outtakes...
Paul shares the rollercoaster ride of his journey from growing up in a family of teachers and coaches. His family owned a peach farm; he worked on the wildlife refuge in the summers. He was given a lot of opportunities to learn to become a jack of all trades. He also speaks to the other side of being a jack of all trades, which is being a master of none. Growing up in a one-stoplight small town and ended up playing football at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Worked for Lowes Home Improvement as a manager and graduated with a major in Peace/War/and defense. He was a police officer in Carborro, then a wildland firefighter. Where he was a bulldozer operator and did prescribed fires, he also got his general contractor license.
Paul is one of the rare few people that Sarah believes is a representation of a perfect balance between masculine (assertive) and feminine energy (nurturing).
Paul shares about the type of leadership/management that he thrived under in his early work career and why it empowered him to excel. He was left to "figure it out" and take responsibility to fix any mistakes.
There is a difference between perfectionism and healthy striving. Healthy striving is wanting to learn and excel at the craft, it's internally motivated. Perfectionism is externally motivated and about wanting to look the part and meet other's expectations.
Done is better than perfect.
One of the keys to success for Paul was networking. He talks through his approach.
Paul also discussed his strong belief about his beard. He goes so far as to start a job interview or potential client meeting with a caveat the he will not be shaving his beard.
Rachel started out wanting to become a therapist but during her internship with a therapeutic foster care, she changed her mind and decided instead to become a foster parent. She had a tragedy in her life that completely altered her direction. Her brother was killed in a motorcycle accident.
When something like that happens everything comes into focus. She left her job because she wanted her life to make a difference. During the time she was studying to launch the next chapter of her life she visited a friend who introduced her to the world of sweepstakes. She used some of her free time during her career transition to start entering contests. She started winning. Then winning big.
She shares where to find sweepstakes and some of her tips and tricks with us, but also shares about the comprehensive master class she created to help other people. One tip for finding giveaways on social media is to search hashtags. There are tons of comment-to-win contests.
We talked about the mindset of being in something for the experience without being attached to the outcome and how that type of perspective really sets people up to have amazing experiences. It was with that mindset that Rachel bought a dress from a thrift store and entered to win Miss Virginia and won!
She loves to share her winnings with friends and family and shared a story of reconnecting with an old friend with a NASCAR race.
Rachel shares the most impactful prize she has ever won: she won $54,000 with a tweet to win a contest that allowed her to pay everything off and make an investment to create the sweepstakes masterclass course.

Jamie Tulak, The Designing Realtor, is in our opinion "kinda a big deal."
From her website:
Jamie’s first visit to Raleigh (and Holly Springs) was back in 2009 - she and her husband John had some friends in the area. She absolutely fell in love with the area and knew that one day she wanted to plant roots and raise a family here in the Triangle.
