Shihan Marinus Hook has spent a lifetime learning. He entered the world of martial arts at age 4 and has been in it for almost five decades. During that time, he has owned his own martial arts school, trained with some of the most famous people in the world; the Gracie's of BJJ, the Chinese monks, and many others. This has led him to hold numerous black belts with the highest rank being 8th Dan. He also spent several years in the golf business. Starting as many do, as a student of the game, then following that passion into an assistant professional and in alignment with his martial arts teachings he got into golf instruction. He has returned to his roots of teaching martial arts and life's lessons to those willing to learn and is back in his dojo called Family Tree Karate where their motto is 'Changing the world one student, one family at a time.' She has written numerous instructional articles for major golf publications and won teaching awards at almost every level you can think of yet has never stopped learning. She maintains her passion by always looking to improve herself, her students, and anyone else she can help. She is the consummate golf professional and a role model for both young men and women who aspire to become golf professionals or instructors themselves.
Justin Tupper (T: @justintupper, FB: @justinctupper, IG: @justintuppernyc) is currently the Senior Vice President at the Golf Channel and the CEO and founder of Revolution Golf. For anyone that followed Revolution Golf you know how that has evolved in the ever popular, and always growing Golf Pass on the Golf Channel.
In this episode you will get to hear the amazing success story of how Justin started Revolution Golf out of his bedroom, grew it into one of the largest online platforms in the industry and how almost all of this got started from what appeared to be a set back early in his college career. Lorin, who was once a writer and editor at 'Golf' magazine, is also the creator of the Top 100 coaches/instructors, which has been copied by almost all major publications. He is a very smart businessman, an innovator, a creative genius but most of all he and his organization want to help coaches and students improve as much as they can.
Mick Colella is the patriarch of the Colella Family which for almost 40 years owned and operated the most successful golf retail store on Hilton Head Island. Who in their right mind would open a retail business with 21 competitors all within a 5 minute drive? Find out the answer and the story of how this small family owned business became the hub of golf activity on a small South Carolina island.
Dr. Sasho Mackenzie (T: @SashoMackenzie, FB: @sasho.mackenzie, IG: @sashomackenzie) has a Ph.D in Sports Biomechanics and is currently a Professor in the Department of Human Kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada. Even if his name doesn't sound familiar, that's ok because his work is influencing coaching and golfers around the globe. Dr. Sasho does research on all areas of the game but at present is most known for his work on how golfers at all levels can increase their swing speed from a biomechanical perspective.
Dr. Sasho is a regular presenter at most golf conferences such as the PGA Show/Teaching and Coaching Summit, Coach Camp, and others throughout the year and if you get the chance to hear him speak be sure to take advantage of it. Dan Hellman (Twitter - @DanHellman1, FB – H3 by Dan Hellman, IG – h3bydanhellman) is the owner of H3 by Dan Hellman; a.k.a. Hellman Holistic Health and his new channel H3TV. He has spent a lifetime learning from some of the best in the world; Paul Chek, Dr. Guy Voyer and others to ensure his 'tool box' is as full as possible and allows him to help all of his clients. He has worked with everyone from your average Joe to world class athletes in all sports. He maybe most known for his work in helping golfers recover from injury and using the ELDOA method.
This is the second time Dan has been on the show, so be certain to listen to his first episode, and we get into one of the hottest topics in the world of golf; distance. He gives his ideas on 'Is heavy lifting good for you?', 'What are the long term effects of swinging as fast and hard as you can?'.
The majority of this episode is devoted to H3TV; how he turned a pandemic into an opportunity, where the idea came from, and why you no longer have an excuse not to utilize his talents.
Dan is one of the brightest people in the physical fitness/training world and each and every time you listen to him you can't help but walk away a smarter, more knowledgeable person.
Todd Barranger (FB: @tbarranger, T: @toddbarranger) was a professional golfer that played on the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and Asian Tours. He was the Asian Tours Thailand Open (later called the Johnnie Walker Open) and the Korn Ferry Tours Dayton Open. He played on the PGA Tour 1994-1995, 2002-2003. In his second year on the PGA Tour he was diagnosed with testicular cancer that sidetracked his playing for a number of years but culminated in his beating the dreaded disease not once but twice! His return to competitive golf was in 2000 where he earned membership to the Korn Ferry Tour (then called the Buy.com and Nationwide Tour) and he earned a return trip to the PGA Tour by coming in the Top 15 on the Korn Ferry money list.
Upon retiring from competitive golf, Todd returned to the business side of golf and is currently a partner of a group that is acquiring golf courses that have seen better days and turning them around in the Las Cruces area of New Mexico. At present they manage three facilities and he is enjoying his new position and life.
