Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. With Spring Training starting to wind down, Sox fans are hoping for continued health. White Sox starting pitchers continue to fine tune their comfort with the pitch clock as well as work some things out of their arsenal. Oscar Colas continues to mash the baseball as his first big league banner hangs along 35th street. Utility and reserve spots are a precious few. Seby Zavala and Gavin Sheets are locks but what about Billy Hamilton, Hanser Alberto, Leury Garcia, and Romy Gonzalez. Who's in and who's out? The Sox bullpen also has some question marks. Can Tanner Banks find a spot or what about flame thrower Gregory Santos? Opening Day is just around the corner and our White Sox look to recapture the AL Central title. Thank you for the continued support and Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat discuss the week that was for our Chicago White Sox. Michael Kopech's first spring outing, Giolito's appreciation of the pitch clock and Oscar Colas adds a pair of home runs to his spring resume. Leury Garcia has had a rough spring defensively but he is not the only one. Is Garcia a lock to make this roster? Speaking of fringe players, Jake Burger continues to smash the baseball. He is tied for the league lead this spring with 4 home runs. What are his chances to break camp and head to Houston with the Sox in a few weeks? The Sox have managed to stay healthy and there is a desire to just fast forward the rest of spring so we can get to Opening Day. Pedro Grifol is amongst friends, which has its advantages but also has its hurdles. Also, Nick and Pat provide their perspectives on Last Comiskey: Part 2. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! Nick and Pat are back, talking all things Chicago White Sox. Nick just returned from Glendale, AZ and reports on action from White Sox camp. Oscar Colas, Andrew Vaughn, Yasmani Grandal and Elvis Andrus have gotten off to a good start offensively. Grandal looks to have his legs under him and the bat is definitely producing some pop. Colas looks to be the clear front runner for the starting right field position. Pedro Grifol is running his first camp as big league manager and creating a culture is of utmost importance. Grifol seems to be running a player-directed and manager-facilitated camp. MLB has ended their investigation and Mike Clevinger will not be suspended. The Davis Martin of 2023 might very well be Davis Martin. Also, Jose Abreu opens up about his disappointment and what went wrong with the Sox in 2022. Opening Day is just 24 days away. Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! Welcome to a very special episode as we are joined by the producer and director of the Last Comiskey documentary, Matt Flesch. Matt provides insight into what we can expect from Part 2 of the documentary, which is set to drop on three consecutive Thursdays: March 2nd, 9th and 16th. So many players from that 1990 Chicago White Sox team are featured as they share their memories of the last year of Comiskey Park and the battle with the Oakland Athletics. Jack McDowell, Ozzie Guillen, Scott Fletcher, Greg Hibbard, Bobby Thigpen and so many more add their voices to the Last Comiskey documentary. It's an absolute must watch for every White Sox fan.
After a long offseason, White Sox baseball is back. We discuss the first two games of the season and also weigh in on Tm Anderson's comments as well as his possible future with the White Sox. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox.
Hey Sox fans! Welcome to Ep. 208. The White Sox found a second baseman and it's none other than Elvis Andrus. Elvis returns to the Southside on a reported one year, $3 million dollar deal. Now what happens to Lenyn Sosa and Romy Gonzalez? Spring Training is underway and the first game is Feb. 25th. Lots of video coming out of Camelback Ranch of pitchers and position players back in action. Lucas Giolito has slimmed down, Yoan Moncada feels like he's in great shape, Luis Robert, Jr. is getting pumped for the WBC and Pedro Grifol is trying to ramp up the intensity. Michael Kopech expects big things from his 2023 season. 30+ starts and 180-200 innings? We might even get a Michael Kopech on the mound for the Home Opener. Lots of excitement surrounding Liam Hendriks and his appearance at camp. Aside from Mike Clevinger and his baggage, there are very little distractions... so far. Go Sox.
Hey Sox fans! Our Chicago White Sox are just days away from their first full squad workout in Glendale, Arizona. There are no shortage of interesting storylines as Spring Training gets underway. How will Pedro Grifol set the tone and what kind of culture is he looking to create? Who will step up to a leadership role now that Abreu is gone? What will the bullpen look like and who will be the man in the 9th inning? How will the new rules affect the White Sox? Can Giolito bounce back and can Kopech finally emerge? There's hope because of the potential and it's time for so many players to finally prove it. Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox.
Hey Sox fans! The Chicago White Sox made a trade but it probably will not excite you to buy any additional tickets for this upcoming season. The White Sox have had a rough off-season but does it deserve an 'F'? Fan Duel has put the projected win total for the Sox this season at 83.5 wins. Too low? Too high? Removing TLR and adding Benintendi while having Jimenez focus solely on DH should add more than a few wins to last year's total of 81. But, what will the Sox be losing without Abreu and Cueto? Keith Law from The Athletic recently ranked the Sox farm system 28th in all of MLB. How can the Sox get better at developing and acquiring talent? Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training next week. Who will be the leader of this 2023 White Sox and who should it be?
Hey Sox fans! Mike Clevinger is being investigated for domestic violence and child abuse. White Sox were quick to sign Clevinger at the beginning of the off-season and there is a very real possibility that he might never throw a pitch in a White Sox uniform. Eloy Jimenez does not want to be just a DH... he wants to play right field. That might be a problem because of his inability to stay healthy when playing the outfield. Good news: Jason Benetti and Steve Stone will be back in the broadcast booth this season. Sox Math lives! If you are roaming around in the 500 level at the Sox game this season, there are a few new spots to grab a drink... but expenses were spared. Is Nicky Lopez really someone the Sox should be targeting or should they just admit that there will be no trades this off-season? And, Is Mark Buehrle a future Hall of Famer?
Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to a very fan-centric Chicago White Sox podcast. Minnesota Twins star, Luis Arraez, has been traded to the Miami Marlins. Is it addition by subtraction for the Chicago White Sox? Jon Morosi of MLB Network made some bold predictions recently and took the White Sox to win the AL Central this season. Morosi seems to be following the "Just Stay Healthy" mentality that the Sox front office has employed. What are the oddsmakers saying about the chances for the White Sox to win the AL pennant or to win the division? Also, what are the odds that Luis Robert wins the AL MVP? Nothing wrong with getting your bets in early. The Sox are still looking for a second baseman and the Cubs seem to have too many. Could Nick Madrigal make his way back to the South Side?
Hey Sox fans! We are one month away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Camel Back Ranch in Glendale, Arizona for the start of Spring Training. The Sox still have several question marks that fans would love for the team to address, namely: second base and right field. On paper, this White Sox team can compete in the AL Central but there seems to be an incomplete feeling as we approach Spring Training. The Sox made some international signings and avoided going to arbitration with several pitchers. Lucas Giolito will not have to battle the Sox for extra money this year but he is essentially pitching for a contract. He is a free agent after this season and Giolito is one of several players that the front office is hoping for a return to accustomed levels. If he does return to his prior self, would the Sox be able to retain his services moving forward? Thank you for the continued support... Go Sox! #WhiteSox #ChangeTheGame
