Hey Sox fans! Welcome to Season 5: Episode 202. The Chicago White Sox officially announced the signing of left fielder free agent, Andrew Benintendi. The Sox were apparently all in on Benintendi from Day 1 of free agency. Rick Hahn and company have made no secret that Benintendi has been a coveted player for quite some time. Finally, the White Sox have an actual left fielder to play left field. So what's next? The Sox need to address second base and maybe even right field. Garrett Crochet's name has been thrown around regarding trades and a possible partner could be the New York Yankees if they are looking to dump Gleyber Torres. Some sad news to report as Liam Hendriks made public that he's been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and will begin treatment on Monday January 9th. Thoughts and prayers with Liam and his family.
Hey Sox fans, Happy New Year! If we assume good health and a return to accustomed levels for White Sox players in 2023, what should we expect? Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez playing 135-140 games and hitting a combined 80 home runs? Yasmani Grandal and Yoan Moncada returning to their 2019 selves? Could Lucas Giolito get back to the pitcher we saw Game 1 of the 2020 playoffs? Will this upcoming season be a breakout for Andrew Vaughn? If we assume health, then the Chicago White Sox could be a dangerous team. Hopefully new manager Pedro Grifol practices what he has preached and sets the tone early in Spring Training. The new year brings a renewed sense of hope and optimism. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! Welcome to our 200th episode. The White Sox made a splash and signed free agent Andrew Benintendi to a 5 yr./$75 million dollar deal. The Sox were not expected to throw money at their problems but left field has been a problem area for quite some time. Benintendi has been coveted by the White Sox organization since 2015 and it's nice to see the Sox not only target a player but also go out and acquire him. The signing of Benintendi will hopefully end the age old question of whether or not Eloy Jimenez will be playing left field. Was Benintendi on Pedro Grifol's wish list? Does he even have a wish list? And if he does, would the Sox front office listen? We explore the next position that could be addressed and whether it will be via the trade or once again throwing money at a problem. Thank you so much for your continued support. Go Sox.
Hey Sox fans! The MLB Winter Meetings wrapped up and the Chicago White Sox did virtually nothing to address roster needs and better the ballclub for 2023. General manager, Rick Hahn, pleaded for patience and tried to empathize with fans while owner Jerry Reinsdorf tried his hand at comedy. The joke is on White Sox fans and it has been for a very long time. With Reinsdorf as an owner, the Chicago White Sox will never be able to compete with clubs like the New York Mets, San Diego Padres or Philadelphia Phillies for premium talent. Fans are restless and have become tired of listening to same story about 'crying poor' and 'attendance was low' or 'it's not financially responsible'. There is a lot of money being made in MLB.... will Jerry Reinsdorf ever act like it?
Hey Sox fans, welcome to the start of Season 5 of the podcast. The MLB Winter Meetings are underway in San Diego. Will the Sox come away with Michael Conforto, Cody Bellinger or Brandon Nimmo? Maybe the Sox will trade someone like Lucas Giolito or Liam Hendriks? One thing is for sure, the White Sox will not be spending premium money on premium talent. We will save that for the New York Mets, Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres. How does Rick Hahn still have a job? To answer that you might need to ask, What are the real expectations of Jerry Reinsdorf? The White Sox announced the coaching staff for 2023. Lots of of new faces however Daryl Boston will be returning for his 11th season as first base coach. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! The Chicago White Sox addressed their need for more pitching by signing free agent Mike Clevinger to a one year deal, pending a physical. Clevinger seems to be a reclamation project for pitching coach Ethan Katz to get his hands on. It's a low risk move that will hopefully allow the White Sox to fill their other needs. Clevinger has battled injuries over the last few seasons and faced a drop in his production. He missed the entire 2021 season due to recovery from his 2nd Tommy John surgery and he started the 2022 season on the injured list. What does this type of move say about what the Sox are looking to do during next week's winter meetings? Could the Sox be interested in trading for Milwaukee Brewers left-handed hitting second baseman, Kolten Wong? It checks all the boxes for the White Sox but what would the Sox give up? Also, Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada will be representing Cuba in the World Baseball Classic and we acknowledge the one year anniversary of the Sox resigning Leury Garcia. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to off-season White Sox chatter. This past week, the Sox added Jose Rodriguez and Bryan Ramos to the 40-man roster then declined to tender a contract to Adam Engel, Danny Mendick and Mark Payton. After the week of moves, the 40-man roster is now at 35. How will the White Sox go about filling out their roster? There are many needs to address. The San Diego Padres are rumored to be interested in Jose Abreu. Heading west makes a lot of sense for Abreu. Could the White Sox go after shortstop Xander Bogaerts? It's seems extremely unlikely however the Sox have made big splashes in the past during November. Three years ago, on November 21st, the White Sox signed Yasmani Grandal to the richest contract in team history... 4yr./$73M. Thank you for the continued support, have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving... Go Sox!
Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to another fan-centric episode as we discuss the off-season path laid out by Rick Hahn during the recent general manager meetings in Las Vegas. The White Sox are believed to be more active in the trade market instead of addressing their issues with money. Could the White Sox actually acquire Sean Murphy from the Oakland A's? What would the Sox have to give up and is focusing on catcher the right course of action? Rick Hahn is hoping that players return to form in 2023 and it sure seems like a strategy by the front office is to hope that guys that underperformed will get back to accustomed levels. It's the season of hope and the Sox are definitely doing that. Thank you for your continued support. Find the podcast everywhere and catch us on our YouTube channel. Go Sox.
Hey Sox fans! The Chicago White Sox made it official and hired Pedro Grifol as the new manager. Grifol spent many years in the Kansas City Royals organization in a variety of roles but has never held the job as MLB manager... until now. It sounds like Rick Hahn finally got his opportunity to hire a manager and is ready to to take the White Sox in a different direction. Aside from Ethan Katz and Curt Hasler, there will be a brand new coaching staff on the South Side. Grifol said all the right things during his press conference but can het get the players to buy into his philosophy? Defense, fundamentals, accountability and communication will be some of the pillars of White Sox baseball in 2023. With the World Series wrapped up, free agency is underway. When will we have a sense of the new direction the White Sox are heading in? Will Jose Abreu be included in the Pedro Grifol era?
Hey Sox fans, welcome back to the White Sox offseason. The Chicago White So are now the last team to make their managerial choice known. The Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins and Texas Rangers have all made their announcements. One of the more popular candidates, Astros bench coach Joe Espada, has been ruled out of the White Sox managerial position according to sources. Are the White Sox waiting until the World Series is finished to make the announcement because their new manger is current Phillies hitting coach, Kevin Long? Or, are the White Sox simply waiting because they want the center stage to announce the return of Ozzie Guillen? Both Guillen and Long seem to be the two final names. We make a case for Kevin Long and Ozzie Guillen while also discussing some scary scenarios as the offseason continues for the Chicago White Sox.
