Gospel Spice | Awaken Delight in God through faith in Jesus Christ

Episode 13 -In this double-length episode, Stephanie explores Mary's recollection of Christmas through the pen of Luke. We dwell at length on the Angel's announcement to the young woman, her reaction, and how she role-models trust in a potentially hazardous Christmas calling. We also ponder the shepherds' Christmas revelation, Simeon's challenge to us today,  the meaning of the incarnation in light of the unchangeable nature of our glorious triune God, and what it means to follow a Christmas calling in our day and age today.

Get ready to experience Christmas in a fresh new way this year through Gospel Spice Christmas!

We recommend you listen to this episode in two sections... because it is a tad long and meaty! We hope and pray you enjoy listening and pondering, as much as Stephanie enjoyed researching and teaching it!

Episode 12 -Matthew transports us to the exotic land of the Magi, or Wise men from the Orient. They came bearing gifts... and received an unexpected welcome. Join Stephanie as we enter the land of Israel on Christmas night, and travel back in time all the way to Daniel and Isaiah to discover how these Magi knew to find the King of the Jews when they did. May we emulate their worshipful reverence for the King of the Jews, the baby boy who came to die so we might live.

Episode 11 -Stephanie takes us from her grandmother's Christmas kitchen straight into the genealogy that introduces the Christmas story in Matthew chapter 1. Despite the apparent boredom of such long-winded lists of names to our modern Western ears, Matthew is actually penning the ultimate Jewish page-turner. What did these names evoke in his audience's mind? What national and personal memories did they trigger? How is Jesus introduced to Matthew's original audience? How did Joseph and Mary fare as Jesus was born, and grew up amongst the whispers and shameful glances in small-town Nazareth?

Episode 8 -You may have heard the saying that there are five gospels--the four written in the New Testament, and then, your own life as a believer. Most people will not read the written gospels until they have experienced the fifth gospel--your life and how it points to Jesus. If they like what they see in your life, then they may turn to experience the other four. That makes YOU the spice of the gospel. It means your unique and special life story really matters, and God wove it to impact others.

In this episode, Stephanie shares her own personal story of coming to the US as a foreign exchange student at age 16, and how she encountered the fifth gospel in the life of several people before she turned to the Bible. She describes her challenge in coming to faith, and how it all came down to understanding that God was a much more trustworthy master of her life, than she had been for herself.

Episode 7 -Stephanie is joined by Renae Brumbaugh Green today to explore the beauty of wishes coming true, when God chooses to lavish us with unexpected joys amidst the bitterness of life.

Renae Brumbaugh Green is an award-winning humor columnist and bestselling author of more than 30 books. She lives in rural Texas with her handsome, country-boy husband, her exasperating but nearly-perfect children, and far too many animals. In her free time Renae leaps tall buildings and rescues kittens from trees. Or, she might try to do those things if she had free time.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desire (Psalm 37:4)
Augustine said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength—and then, do whatever you want.”
This is a high calling of discipline and joy while facing a life that will hand us all bitter lemons at times. How do we cling to God when life is just rough? Find out more in today’s episode with Stephanie and Renae.

Episode 6 -Matthew didn't start out as prime material to become a gospel writer. Or did he?

A tax collector hated by his countrymen, he ended up writing the book that bridges the Old and the New Testaments. No small feat! Matthew's passion was to point to Jesus, even as he wrote of his encounters with Messiah.
