  • Interview: Jessica Douek (Vocals) Larry Sobieraj (Guitar) of Mallavora
Bristolian alt-metal act Mallavora have released their brand-new album, ‘Echoes’, out now via Marshall Records. An EP that explores chronic illness, neurodiversity, and identity, blending shades of rock, alt-metal, and vocalist Jessica Douek’s Middle Eastern roots.
A stunning release that we gave 10 out of 10 and described as:
Cathartic and inclusive, there’s so much to Mallavora and so much to unpack with this EP that, chances are, we could still be talking about the four tracks on offer in a year’s time. That’s now impactful the music is and that is how important what Mallavora are doing is here. A band that genuinely feels like they can make a difference when it comes to inclusivity within the music industry and making those who feel forgotten about, heard.
You can read our review of the full EP here: https://www.gbhbl.com/ep-review-mallavora-echoes-marshall-records/
We spoke to Guitarist Larry and vocalist Jessica, who live with chronic illnesses, about this record and their journey to this point. Discussing how they plans were upended by them winning ‘The Deal’ in the most positive of ways, going on to record this EP at Marshall Records' studios and open The Avalanche Stage at Download Festival earlier this year. We also discuss opening up, speaking about issues that are important to them, accessibility at venues, how everyone can get involved, and so much more.

UK five-piece hard rockers, The Rattlebacks’ debut album, ‘Sidewinder’, was released on November 15th, 2024. An album that we loved and described as:
Deeply authentic and deeply relatable, The Rattlebacks have made sure this album is super-accessible, without compromising their powerful hard rock sound.

  • Interview: Adam Zaars (Guitars) of Tribulation
While they may be renowned for their unique blend of gothic and death metal, Tribulation are not ones to repeat a formula and on Sub Rosa in Æternum, they conjure a new beast. Part psychological horror of Italian cinema, part gaunt British goth, and part Art Deco opulence. It was released on November 1st, 2024, via Century Media Records.
The ever-evolving face of Tribulation is on clear display here and they can never be accused of stagnating. Another strong example of them being imaginative and interesting. When it’s good (Saturn Coming Down, Murder in Red, Reaping Song), it’s really freaking good. Tribulation as untouchable as ever.

We spoke to guitarist Adam Zaars (cold and all) about the new album and the creative energy the band found they had when it came to making it a reality. • Interview: Charlie Hinton (Vocals/Guitar) of Crashface
Alternative punk and rock duo, Crashface (Charlie Hinton – Vocals/Guitar & Otto Balfour – Bass/Production have made one hell of a name for themselves on the scene. They’ve been championed, rightfully, as one most exciting, explosive bands of the modern era. Something that is evident on their latest EP, ‘Life and Death in the Wastland’.
Out now, the new EP is a furious non-stop thrill ride with zero boundaries as the duo tear through each track like a tornado, bringing with them influences of electronica, metal, punk and everything in between. Each track is full to the brim with fiery confidence and eruptive energy, giving utter chaos in the best way possible.
It’s a Crashface special, but also showcases their ever-developing palette, which is something we discuss with Charlie in this interview. Learning a bit more about the release, the Crashface creative process, how nothing is off the table from a musical perspective, and so much more.

  • Interview: Cherry Duesbury (Vocals) of Defences
Following millions of streams across their catalogue of releases, many UK tours with multiple sell-out headline shows, and numerous festival appearances including Download, Takedown, Turbulence and Burn It Down, Defences, the alternative metal band, are back with their brand-new album, ‘Shadowlight’. Due for release on November 8th, 2024, via Long Branch Records.
One listen to Shadowlight and it becomes abundantly clear that Defences are thinking a bit differently on this album. Not when it comes to huge alternative anthems of course, that’s what they do after all, but rather the layers that make this more than just another catchy modern metal album. Notably, a cinematic edge that gives a lot of the tracks a more powerful vibe and showcase a more ambitious approach from Defences.

  • Interview: Daniel Fleba (Bass) of Marble
The Italian melodic metal band Marble return with their most ambitious record to date, T.I.M.E. An album that revolves around female characters throughout the history of western theatre, and marking the stylistic evolution of stage performances. Starting with the ancient Greek tragedy of Euripides, passing through the British theatre of William Shakespeare, to the Russian social revolution of Anton Čechov, and on to the modern American theatre of Samuel Beckett.
The sextet, with an unchanged lineup and still led by the voice of Eleonora Travaglino, exploits the singer's years of experience as a theatre actress, bringing to the compositions a heartfelt and dense interpretation that also makes use of important guests such as Ivan Adami (Stranger Vision) on "The Jester Duplicity", Clode (Tethra) who offers his growl on "Heliosyncrasy" and "Theater Is My Essence", and finally an entire choir for "Smile in Decay".
T.I.M.E. will be released on November 8th, 2024, via Rockshots Records. Let the curtain open and let the music of Marble transport you to the stage.
We spoke to bassist Daniel Fleba about the new album, looking at the concept and how the band were able to make it a reality. Alongside that, we also discussed the theatrical side of the band and how they portray that through their music, wanting to take the listener on a journey, offering up educational aspects, and as so much more.

  • Interview: Dan Walmsley of Magnetar
Magnetar, a three-piece blackened death metal band from the UK, have released their debut album ‘There Will Be No Peace in My Valley’ via Vendetta Records.
Featuring mastermind Dan Walmsley, who plays all instruments except the drums, which are hammered by Necronautical/Foetal Juice’s Rob Harris and the vocals which are delivered by Winterfylleth/Aro bassist, Nick Walllwork.
When a band with the heavy calibre of Magnetar comes along, we pay attention. So, it should come as no surprise that There Will Be No Peace in My Valley has a beastly sound. One based within the world of blackened death, but not curtailed by the more extreme and aggressive soundscape, and more than willing to experiment with melody.

Following their last album release in 2018, Stormcast are now ready to release their brand-new album entitled ‘Tremors in the Ether’ on November 29th, 2024.

  • Interview: Jorge Rabelo (Songwriter/Guitarist/Vocalist) of Isaurian
Isaurian, the Brazilian doomgaze/post-rock project, will release their new album, ‘The Pulsing Rush’, on October 25th.
Having emerged in 2017 with the desire to make heavy, intense and emotional art via a group of musicians with more than 20 years of experience, Isaurian have made records with some of the most renowned producers in the world. Proudcers like Rhys Fülber (Paradise Lost, Fear Factory), Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Caspian), Kevin Ratterman (Emma Ruth Rundle, Sumac) and Chris Common (Pelican, Chelsea Wolfe).
Alongside renowned producer Jesse Gander (Brutus, Anciients), this new album sees the band delving deeper into their heavy origins while still exploring shoegaze and post-rock soundscapes, touching on themes of love, sex, loss and depression.
After going through a production period plagued by personal issues that included the death of a brother and a cancer diagnosis, Isaurian has delivered their most mature and complex record to date while maintaining the band's main characteristic: real, heartfelt, emotional, human music.
It these incredible peaks and valleys that we explore in this interview. Speaking with songwriter / guitarist / vocalist Jorge Rabelo about the new record and how they made it a reality under such testing circumstances. We also explore the detail within the record, the reasons they don’t play live much, what the future might hold, and so much more.

  • Interview: New Skeletal Faces
California death-rockers New Skeletal Faces will release their new album, ‘Until the Night’ on November 1st, 2024, via Peaceville (their label debut).
The trio that makes up the garish look and sound of New Skeletal Faces formed in 2017, and have been spreading the darkness of their reanimated ‘death rock’ sound since then. 2019‘s Celestial Disease album woke the dead, but it’s this new release that gets the creaky bones and rotted flesh well and truly moving.
Think seductive & hypnotic gothic vibes fused with early Swedish black metal and Sunset Strip style heavy metal. It’s hellacious, but that’s exactly how New Skeletal Faces like it.
We spoke to two out of three of the band, specifically Errol Fritz (vocals/guitar) and Don Void (drums), about the new album and everything that went into making it a reality. As well as digging into their past, present, and future, talking about spreading the wicked word of New Skeletal Faces further afield, and so much more.
