Good evening fair folk and tonight we continue wonderful Barnaby Rudge and meet dear Gabriel Varden.
A very happy new year and farewell 2025. I have invested in an application that will provide us with beautiful and interesting music that we are allowed to use, as it’s copyright-free. I’m deeply excited by this as music is so fundamental to my joy in producing this podcast.

Day two of Barnaby Rudge. He awaits us. Please skip and go to 39 minutes in if you only want to hear the Dickens episode. Before that I chatter nonsense for England, and continue with George Cavendish’s biography of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. Wolsey is forced to move south and everywhere he goes, crowds of people shout words of support.
On Thursday’s episode we celebrate New Year with the third episode of Barnaby Rudge and we also continue with Samuel Pepys’ diaries. We will also include the Saints’ Days, George Eliot and a spot of poetry. Future poetry will include Shakespeare, Elizabeth I, Thomas Wyatt and Seamus Heaney.
Thank you for your support. It’s an honour to have you with me ☺️

Good afternoon and welcome to the first episode of the new format, where we have episodes on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, with possibly a fourth ‘floating’ episode.
If you want to go straight to Barnaby Rudge I think it’s about the 36th minute into the episode.
Thank you HUGELY to my new supporter and subscriber. It gives me a very welcome boost, and is very much appreciated.
I wish you a peaceful Sunday evening and last Sunday of 2025.
Love Gretel xx
