Dear friends, I do turn advertisement offers down to keep this endeavour free from advertisements. So if you feel able to make a contribution from time to time - one-offs very welcome - that would be a wonderful help. But no pressure or guilt if money is tight for you. Just enjoy the companionship x 🤗🌷🤍

Hello thank you for joining me as we leap forward apace into 2025. The moon is already a waxing gibbous, St Valentine’s is around the corner, and Bede talks at us rather with another Wulfhere and Ecgfrith. It’s cold in England and I am pining for the streets of London as I’ve been cooped up in hospital with my poor ailing mother. She is so vulnerable with me now and I’ve been doing the sorts of things we hope we’ll never have to do, but when faced with them, we just get on with the job, with tender hearts and with pity. And what a wonderful word: pity. I’ve bought too many books again this evening, but there are worst naughtinesses 😁 A very good and restful night to you and thank you for your company 🫖

Self-pity is a little unattractive cul-de-sac but I don’t want to hide any ugly detours from you. As always I just hope it can be of some help. It shows, as is evident so far I think, that I don’t have answers. And that stumbling about, though rather ugly and unwise, is - for me at least - something I often do.
Thank you for your company. I look forward to returning home tomorrow. 😬

Come with me and keep me company this third day of February. We are walking together and can choose whether to be annoyed by the companions who grumble and argue and point out the mud and cold; or to link arms with the loving, good people. Think Atticus; think the Princess of Wales; think Floella Benjamin, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama. And who do we have closer to home? There is a wonderful lady I know in her 80s, widowed, who smiles and loves and lives a purposeful life. We are free to choose what group to join, even if we have to fake it, with the aim of making it. And when we think of awful leaders, let’s imagine the advice that a 500 year old Dorset oak tree would give us. We can choose to be at peace today; and let that still small voice of calm be our guide, with a small candle of hope; and our hands outstretched to support other people. Night night dear friends xxx
