The GDM guys are back and it’s another week of GDM Christopher destroying his players hopes and dreams. This time he pulls it off with a random encounter. That takes serious talent to smash an entire party with a random encounter. Listen in for the tales of Avernus and how things can go terribly wrong.

GDM Jay however has had a bit of time off from running games so he’s been spending his time wisely and prepping to run his next game, Shadowrun. Soon it will be time to dust of the credsticks, jack into the matrix, and launch some manaballs at chummers. During his preparations though he managed to go down a spiral of the astral plane and Forgotten Realms cosmology. Boy was that a mistake.

The guys also find some time to do some Grump about miniatures and the costs associated with them. Also talk of really old D&D video games and how Shadowrun was the superior video games in the 1990’s.

The GDM guys are back at it coming live from the Grumpy Studios! By that we mean the separate rooms they record in at different locations around the country. This week the guys talk about a strange scenario for killing off characters. Fall damage and a few of the different ways of handling it when your players try to leap to their deaths. GDM Christopher also details out some of the issues with the changes WotC are making to the Adventures League.

GDM Jay is super excite for his upcoming Shadowrun game and chats a bit about the setting, some basic rules, and just Shadowrun in general chummer. He also goes through a number of great D&D music band names. Maybe one day Cr’aig will have his own band and can use one of the names. Lastly there is a discussion about sci-fantasy or is it fan-sci? I don’t know. What I do know is some people hate when you mix the two!

GDM Christopher has returned from his raiding and pillaging of the coast, bringing many spoils and rants back with him. Apparently some of the rants he returned with are the same ones that GDM Jay and GDM Mike went through last week. Well if it’s good enough to do once it’s good enough to do twice.

Mostly the guys talk about some of the possible 6th edition changes and how they aren’t good for the long term future of the game. There is also a good bit of Spelljammer and what to do when the rules that are given don’t suffice. Fortunately the Grumpy Dungeon Masters have all the answers for your Spelljamming needs.

GDM Jay talks about the ending of a recent campaign he was playing in and how reverse gravity leads to more shenanigans. As a spell it’s only ok, but as a shenanigans provider it’s A number 1! Who doesn’t want to cause mischief with magic?

GDM Christopher decided to not show up for work today. Something about a vacation or maybe he was raiding villages again. I don’t really know. So I reached out to one of my local DM’s and he was happy to oblige filling in for the episode. Everybody welcome to new GDM Christopher….GDM Mike.

We decided to go into a rather grumpy mode for this one and complain about the upcoming Virtual Table Top for 6th edition. While much of it is still an unknown there is plenty that can be determined just from knowing WotC and how other VTT’s operate. For those who play online it might end up being great. For those of us who don’t, best we can do is hope the physical materials don’t take a back seat to the online ones. GDM Jay has known this guys for a number of years and was glad to see that he had recently released his own table top RPG system for public consumption. The boys sit down to chat with him about his new game Source of Epics and his life in gaming. If you think GDM Jay is an old grump who misses the old play style of RPG’s, well this will be a treat for you. James has been playing even longer and never really moved past 2nd edition D&D. Instead he worked tirelessly for over 30 years crafting his own game system.

The core of the system is a percentile based game with a unique take on spell casting and skills based on the true early epics such as Homer’s The Odyssey and Gilgamesh. Got another long podcast for you guys this week. WotC recently released a Unearthed Arcana and a number of videos discussing the direction they are taking D&D in the future. The UA details out some things they have been working on and tossing around. First and foremost of they are calling it One D&D. The community is however referring to it as 5.5 or 6th edition. There is a debate as to which it is, but really you guys only care what the Grumpy Dungeon Masters think about it.

The UA also details out a ton of other changes to races, backgrounds, feats, magic, and a whole bunch of other things. Fortunately none of these are permanent changes as of yet and they are offering to listen to player feedback. So listen to the podcast, reach your own conclusions about the changes and then offer them some feedback. We all love this game and want the best version of it we can have.

GDM Jay here guys. We’ve broken the 100 episode mark finally (not counting guests)! You’d think we would celebrate or something, but not us. Can’t be grumpy if you’re riding on jet skis.

Instead we’re talking about Spelljammer again! We managed to get our greedy little hands on the table of contents for the upcoming Spelljammer set coming out in a week and boy is it a lot of stuff. Books are broken into 3 different ones, each focused on a different aspect of the setting. Some of it’s awesome and some of it makes us grumpy. We wouldn’t be who we are without some grumping.

GDM Christopher also goes on a bit of a tirade about a Baldur’s Gate campaign he’s running for Adventurers League and I tell a story about a kobold who grovels and why it’s awesome!
