Grumpy Dungeon Masters

This week we are once again joined by our friend ReverendPanda. The guys invited him on specifically because of his love for the Dragonlance setting. The guys spend a lot of time diving down the well of the new Unearthed Arcana that has a new archtype, race, feats, and backgrounds directly from the world of Krynn. Although it may still be a while until a Dragonlance book drops, the guys couldn’t help but dive into this info and tell you the good and the bad about it. Also GDM Christopher ran his adventure league game and managed to not kill any characters. I’m still not sure he’s telling the truth.

The guys are back at it again! Shenanigans that is. GDM Christopher decided it would be a good idea to teach a new family how to play D&D. As usual however things don’t go exactly as planned. GDM Jay got a bit of a break from running D&D and got to play a high level one shot instead. It turned into a spectacle of silvery barbs, battle chickens, and fireballs for everybody. The guys also lament their lack of time to learn other gaming systems and talk about the Broom of Flying.

Our buddy Reverend Panda joined us for some shenanigans this week. Turns out it was just GDM Jay and him spending an episode putting GDM Christopher in his place. From bad character design to not following the rules they had plenty of stuff to beat him over the head with. GDM Jay spends some time regaling the guys with a story of using a bugbear as a sock puppet. Surprised the other guys didn’t beat him over the head for that one. They also spend some time gushing over how much time GDM Panda actually spends on his campaign in comparison.

This podcast turned out to be a rather long one. GDM Christopher just had so many things he had to talk about and couldn’t wait until next week. I guess that’s what he gets for not wanting to talk about things last week. Oh well! The guys discuss a strange occurrence of failures through falling damage, do spell attacks count as spells under the new changes to monsters, GDM Jay disagree with Jeremy Crawford again, and the Grand Emperor Ooze Lord Almighty Jubilex makes another unscheduled appearance on the podcast once again. The guys just can’t seem to get enough of his oozy goodness. All this and more!

So GDM Christopher finally finished off the Owl campaign after all this time. Unfortunately he didn’t want to talk about it, so the guys had to wing it like usual. He’ll have that discussion another time, or so he says. I’m curious how many of his PC’s survived! GDM Jay does his best to convince the world that it’s necessary to have negative attributes in D&D. The guys also dive a little bit more into things new DM’s need to do to start being a DM. Hint. Just do it. All this and a discussion about GDM Christopher actually getting to finally play a character for once. We love you forever DM’s!

The GDM guys go out on a long limb this episode and try to figure out why only the Sword Coast exists within the Forgotten Realms. It’s as if WotC forgot they have other material! Well the speculations abound and they still don’t have a real answer. Oh well. Guess we’ll just keep our fingers crossed for a Sembia campaign someday. They also talk some about Dark Elf sign language, Jubilex being the most awesome bad guy in DnD, and how a Vorpal sword really works. Also GDM Jay discusses getting a tattoo of Robert Downey Jr. on his butt. All this and more in the latest episode!

What is it with the Grumpy guys and their absolute love for water spells? This time the boys go into a deep discussion about Tidal Wave and Tsunami. They are also joined by Grumpy Dungeon Master Reverend Panda for his input on it. The guys also have a bit of fun figuring out how they would spend $100 building their DND team for adventures. Blade seemed to be a top choice all around. There is also discussions about old RPGA tournament rules and they find time to complain about silvery barbs some more. Can’t ever get enough of that spell.

The guys are trying to make me buy Girl Scout cookies and it’s a little weird since they are in fact not made from real girl scouts (It’s an Addams family movie quote, go look it up). Anyways, there is much discussion about the Korreds. That’s right! A little know monster that required even GDM Jay to look up and find more details on them. Rarely used monsters are good. There is also a hefty discussion about running small dungeons or massive dungeons. Not sure there is a right answer, but I’ll just avoid both thank you very much! Lastly there is talk about subtle spell and how it is incredibly good. Listen in to find out how!

This episode is a banger. Apparently that’s British for sausages or American for something awesome. You decide which one to use. GDM Christopher got to take a little adventure and run his Dread of the Ice Devil at Scarab Con in Columbia SC. He regales us with the adventure and teaches some people new to it to guard their ankles. Then they discuss some of the more amazing table set ups they have seen when miniatures are involved. There is also a great discussion on creating characters completely at random and playing them. This could be pure chaos!
