When the 2021 Guysner Award winner Nate McDonough asked us to have Providence-based cartoonist and illustrator Ryan Alves on an episode, we knew this was a big favor. Would we set a dangerous precedent by allowing someone to dictate who comes on? Would Ryan Alves meet the high watermark set by past guests? The answer to both questions is yes. If you're a Guysner winner, you get more leeway. And besides, Ryan is great and he would've been on the show anyway. To Nate's credit, he did expedite the process. Again, Guysner. After a few scheduling conflicts, we finally sat down with Ryan to talk about his rapidly growing body of work including Bubblegum Maelstrom and Moustache, why he got into comics, his experience at the Winter Hocking Hills Cartoonist Retreat, and who has the biggest hog in Batman's rogues gallery (it's Bane).

We talk about the recent NFT fiasco at Image Comics and answer listener questions about making comics, who our dream comic collaborators are, the status of Gutter Boys Magazine, and a bunch of other stuff tangentially related to comics. Yeah don't worry, we'll have a guest on the next one.

Spring is in the air and da boys are ready to prance through the tulips in celebration of this thing of ours we call comics. Our guest for this episode is Brooklyn-based artist Austin English who's been running the small press publisher Domino Books for over a decade providing readers with print offerins well off the beaten path. We discuss his newest book, Meskin and Umezo, as well as his process and approach to the media, his publishing journey that led him to become one of the top names in the world of small press comics, and his general thoughts on the business. This one might be our longest single episode so far, but we think you'll wanna stick around for the whole thing.

Go to dominobooks.org to check out what Domino Books has to offer and follow Austin on Instagram & Twitter @dominocomics.

Even though we said we wouldn't have repeat guests on the main feed, it's only fair to have 2021's Pimp of the Year Jasper Jubenvill come on for a second time to really hash it out for the listeners. We go in-depth about process, his influences, his current love affair with Elden Ring, and why Cam loves WWE2K22 so much.

EDITOR'S NOTE: We erroneously referred to Nate McDonough as a Pimp of the Year when in fact he was only the recipient of the Dudes Rock Award. JB will receive 20 lashings from Nate for his transgression and we hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive us.

Follow Jasper on Instagram @jasper.jubenvill. He does not have a website yet, so be sure to judge him harshly for that.

Mírame a los ojos cuando digas mi nombre! No me confrontes si no eres hombre! Da boys are riding dirty with the Boricua Prince, one-half of Mex Flentallo, the wonderfully talented Puerto Rico-based illustrator and comic artist Daniel Irizarri aka DIO. We discuss Dio's upbringing in the US and its alleged territories, his development as a comic creator, the various projects he's worked on, and his current book Holy West with Seth Jacob. Don't worry, we also do bits and talk cuisine.

Check out Dio's work on Instagram or see what he's posting on Twitter @danielirizarri and support the Mex Flentallo crew on Twitter @flentallo.

BLAH BLAH BLAH you get the gist at this point. On this episode, the boys chat with Chicago-based cartoonist Mike Centeno. Creator of Futile, his ongoing self-published one-man anthology series, and all around cool dude, Mike shares his experiences acclimating to a new country after moving from Venezuela for college, his transition from illustration to comics, and his process when developing and executing a story.

To celebrate THREE YEARS of GUTTER BOYS, we're releasing BONUS PATREON episodes from the vault as voted on by our Patreon subscribers. Enjoy!

Calling all cars, the boys are back with a brand new PATREON EXCLUSIVE BONUS EPISODE. We're joined by past guest and twizzy outlaw Ramon Villalobos and cartoonist/friend of the show Jas Hice to speak on notable non-superhero comic adaptations. A lot of names are dropped (especially by Jas in list form). Don't worry though, the boys make sure to pivot the conversation into unrelated topics, as a bit. We make this look good.

We've finally reached the end of the Hocking Hills Chronicles! What a run! On this final interview from the 2021 cartoonist retreat, we talk with Columbia-based cartoonist and teacher/lecturer Emi Gennis. Known for Baseline Blvd and The Plunge: A True Story from Kilgbore Books, Emi is also an Associate Professor of Comics & Narrative Practice at the Columbus College of Art & Design. We discuss her transition from studying comics to making comics, her development as a cartoonist, and why she's dedicated the bulk of her life to an undervalued medium.

Check out more of Emi's work and their comic tutorials on her website at emigennis.com. You can also follow her on Twitter @imemi.

The boys welcome back past guest Akira Yoshida to take a stroll through C.B. Cebulski's magnum opus: 2007's Wonderlost published by Image Comics. With Yoshida's help, we break down both issues of the short-lived autobio anthology series and make sense of the inner workings of a beautiful mind. And to top it all off Akira answers listener questions sent in from the Gutter Gang Nation the first time!
