well the end of 2020 is in sight.  We can see its little 2021 head peaking around a corner.  Life is still gonna be messed up, this virus is still here doing its worst.  What will change is the year.  A new year a new hope.  Just like the first Star Wars movie.  And I still say that is the only one worth a lick of spit.  I know all you young ones love you some Mandalorian but give me those sweet Episode 4 vibes.  Give me the torture droid and the holo chess and the trash compactor monster.  Back before we even had to conceive of Ewoks.  Those were good days. I hope 2021 is like those days......

Low budget - check. Weird kill scenes - check. Brief Nudity - check.  Santa is the murderer - check.  Well this movie checks a lot of boxes and is kind of fun.  Who doesn't love a movie where Santa impales a girl on stuffed deer head?

Life is a four letter word.  And by four letter word I mean it contains a total of four letters.  The first is "L" and that stands for Love for what is life without love (here's a hint, its terrible).  "I" is for eyes, one of the main ways of seeing. "F" is for "F*!#", it is the thing I say when I trip and stub my toe. "E" is for everything else and that is a whole lot of stuff.  That is life but it's also even more.  It is the miracle of what goes on here on the planet, trees, microbes, bugs, ticks (ticks aren't bugs BTW), Santa, his elves, blood oranges, after school specials, and on and on.  I could go on and on butt that is what your are expecting e to do.  Just said butt.

Continuing our month of holiday movies is Deck the Halls.  This movie that answers the question, is Matthew Broderick funny?  Sadly the answer is not really. As opposed to Danny Devito and Kristen Chenowith who are super funny.  Maybe put some holiday joy into your holiday movie.  Just an idea.

Well well well.  Who threw Timmy down the well? As kids we were taught to be careful when playing because we might fall down a well.  I lived in Southern California.  There were no wells.  We had indoor plumbing.  We were civilized.  We were not animals.  Except when it came to Christmas.  Well at least I was an animal when it came to Christmas.  Actually I was more just obsessed.  Pouring over the Sears Wishbook.  I looked at each page and gauged what were the perfect toys.  I did this too when I went to the actual toy store but in truth my passion lay in looking at the images in the catalog.  Not surprising that I spent 20 years making living buying and selling on eBay every day.  Our childhoods inform everything about our adult lives. But really, who threw Timmy down the well?

Jack Frost is the heartwarming tale of a dad who dies and then comes back to life as a snowman to teach his kid a tricky hockey shot and to fix a leaky pipe in the kitchen that his wife couldn't fix because you know, she's a girl???? All that and some other stuff.

For those of us that live in California, the idea of snow and snowing is magical and exotic. But one time I went to Rhode Island in the winter and the snow had mostly melted and these big piles of dirty snow were piled up in the shady areas of parking lots and buildings and it was gross.  I'm sure any snowman made of this snow would be grey and sad.  Thankfully movie snowmen are white as the driven snow.  What is driven snow?  Snow people take other places because it is nice?  That seems pretty weird, why drive it around if it just falls from the sky.  These are the things I think about.

New Years Eve is a holiday like this movie is a movie.  It happens and people get excited for a few minutes and then it is forgotten forever.  Except no one ever got excited about this movie.

Somedays you wake up and you have had some crazy dreams.  You start your day and it is just like every other day.  None of those great dream dynamics happen in real life.  No one you know transforms into a lizard person while the police are talking to them.  Why do dreams make themselves so interesting and then reality never backs it up. It's not fair.  I'm calling foul.  I'm sick of reality being so real.  We need more surreal in the real.  There I said it.  Now I better get to work doing it.

How many is too many.  When it comes to candy your stomach will tell you.  When it comes to comic books, the amount of load bearing walls can make a difference if you are storing them on the second floor.  In America we like to take things to excess.  How many sports cars does it take to prove you are a man.  Do you really need to own Steve McQueen's 1968 Ford Mustang GT? Do you have the $3+million dollars to buy it?  I don't but if there is a bank out there willing to loan me the money, I'm will to try to pay it back.  And if I default on the loan at least I will have had the car for a few months to drive around in. And boy would I look cool in the car.  Not that I go anywhere that people would admire it.  Mostly I just go to Rite Aid and the grocery store.  And I'm not gonna park it at either of those places.  All those shopping carts.  Life finds a way to ruin everything.  I think I'll go eat a cookie.

Well we got here, episode 16. Nobody thought we could do it. "They will get to 12 and give up", "These guys can't do 16 episodes, it's not in their DNA" and "Huh, these idiots do a show?" and these are just things that Dan said, we can't print what Tony said or youTube would ban use for life.  16 episodes, one more than 15 that is a rarified club to be part of.  Will they go for 17?  I doubt it.  These guys are soft, weak, fragile, tiresome, weak, real weak and tiresome. But we'll see and by we'll I mean me.  I'll be here just to see.  Even I don't make it through these tiresomely long videos. I guess tiresome is the word of the day. See you next week.

Wouldn't it be nice if life was like the movies.  Billionaires took us all on vacations and had secret rooms to keep us in. If dragons flew through the skies and destroyed our cities at the whims of crazy mad queens.  If murders stalked us and killed us one by one and sleep away camps.  Wait a second these things are all terrible.  Excuse me while I go eat some halloween candy (50% off at CVS)

Happy Halloween everybody.  For our final movie of the season we watched the Netflix's Hubie Halloween.  Adam Sandler is back playing a character that could not exist in the real world and man this bit is getting old.  A cobbled together plot never really goes any where and this one is not destined to be a classic.  So grab some halloween candy and settle in as we put this one six feet under the ground.

Halloween, a day where we celebrate the dark, the unknown, the impossible.  And an excuse to cover our lawns in plastic grave stones, our walls with giant fuzzy spiders and fill our pantries with delicious candy.  Not that I need an excuse to buy candy.  I love candy.  Each year I buy it and then no kids come to our door because no kids live in our neighborhood.  Then I eat it all myself until I feel sick.  I'm going to do it again this year and next year and on and on because you're never too old to get sick eating Halloween candy. It's my thing.  Since I was a kid. Have a good Halloween everyone.

Re-animator is one of those gory, fun, silly, over the top movies that we all love.  So for once we had a movie that was enjoyable top to bottom.  Do we find things to critique, of course because we are jerks, but that does not stop this movie from showing us that a low budget can actually help a movie be the best it can.

How should we judge works from the past?  HP Lovecraft had some incredibly problematic beliefs when viewed though the lens of todays standards.  That said, his creations live on well beyond whatever terrible beliefs he ascribed to during his life. The thing that resonated from him are not those beliefs, it is the worlds he created that resonate.  And now we have plush Cthulhu toys and Lovecraft RPGs.  The world is a better place because of plush Cthulhu toys and Lovecraft RPGs.  So the world is a better place because of HP Lovecraft. Sorry for getting serious.  Butt crack. Hope that makes it better.
