How Hard Times in Our Lives Lead Us to Praise God : Reflections from Psalm 92
Praise comes from an overflow of our hearts as a result of God’s work in our lives. Today we look at Psalm 92 and the idea of how praise and thanksgiving go hand in hand. How do we praise God when things in our life are hard? It’s the hard times that produce praise in us because they are opportunities for God to show Himself faithful in our lives. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
What can you praise God for today? Try to come up with a list of at least ten things and write them down. Perhaps consider repeating this practice every day, until it becomes habit to praise God in all things.
Today’s Key Verse:
But you, O Lord, are exalted forever. Psalm 92:8
Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.
Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?
Hey, I’m your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God’s voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn’t quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn’t qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do.
The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God’s word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life.
Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His.
The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.
Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.

How Spending Time in God’s Word is a Direct Connection to How Much Peace We Experience: Reflections from Psalm 91
God’s word is the primary way He speaks to us, yet so many times we don’t spend time in the word when we are going through difficult circumstances. Today we look at this connection and are reminded of how God’s presence is what will sustain is during difficult seasons. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
How does the connection between reading God’s word and spending time with Him translate into you having more peace in your life? What does this practically look like for you? Are there some ways that God may be calling you to a deeper relationship with Him? Spend some time reflecting on that today.
Today’s Key Verse:
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

How God Calls Us to Live for Eternity: A Prayer of Moses in Psalm 90
Today we are studying the only Psalm that is attributed to Moses. As we look at this prayer, it reveals to us the ways we are called to invest in the future kingdom as we live our short lives here on earth. I pray this episode challenges and encourages you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have you been living for this world? What ways are you investing in the kingdom? How might God be calling you to change your conversations or how you spend your time?

May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

Seeing Jesus as the Proof of God’s Faithfulness: How Psalm 89 Points to Jesus
Waiting on God is never easy, especially when our circumstances seem to be the opposite of what God promised. In today’s episode we are looking at that exact scenario as David’s reign comes to an end in Israel. We can learn so much from this psalm that God is working, even when we can’t see Him.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have there been times in your life where you felt like God was breaking His promises? How does the idea of God’s faithfulness revealed in today’s study change your thinking?
Today’s Key Verse:
I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations. Psalm 89:4

When Darkness Feels Like a Friend: Reflections from Psalm 88
Sometimes life can get us to a place where thoughts of depression, anxiety, and even suicide can make us feel like darkness may be our only friend. The enemy would have you believe that, and we see in the psalms that even the psalmists struggled with similar emotions. As we learn to lean into what we know instead of what we feel, we can have hope in the God who saves. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have you had seasons in your life where darkness felt like a friend? If you are in that place right now, name someone you can reach out to for help. What are some practical ways that you can deal with these emotions next time they surface?
Today’s Key Verse:
O Lord, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. Psalm 88:1-2

What Does it Mean to Be a Citizen of the City of God? Reflections from Psalm 87
The biblical concept of citizenship has a little different meaning that it does today. As we unpack what it means to be a citizen of the city of God, I pray that you will be both encouraged and challenged.
Thoughts to Journal:
How does the biblical understanding of citizenship challenge you or encourage you? Is there something that God is calling you to do differently? How has your perspective changed?
Today’s Key Verse:
The Lord will write in the register of the peoples, “This one was born in Zion.” Psalm 87:6

Why Being Afraid Doesn’t Disqualify Your Faith: How Psalm 86 Shows Us How Faith and Fear Can Work Together
It is a natural human emotion to have fear. And while I certainly believe fear is not from God, we will all have to deal with fear this side of heaven. Today we are looking at the example of King David when he too was facing something difficult and the way he allowed his faith to speak louder than his fear. I pray this episode blesses you!
Thoughts to Journal:
Have you allowed fear to hold you back from doing something you felt God was calling you to? How does your perspective change after studying today’s passage? How will this impact you the next time you are facing fear?
Today’s Key Verse:
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

How are Righteousness and Peace Connected? How Psalm 85 Reveals the Key to Peace in Our Culture
Have you ever thought about the connection between righteousness and peace? In Psalm 85, we learn how the two are connected and why it’s really hard to have one without the other. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
How have you seen a connection between righteousness and peace in your own life? Or the opposite- the lack of peace because of a lack of righteousness? Spend some time reflecting on how you can pursue peace in your own life and community.

Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps. Psalm 85:13

Where is the Sacred Space in Your Life? Reflections from Psalm 84
Psalm 84 has been called the “pearl of the Psalms” because it clearly showcases how special it is to be in God’s presence. As we study the areas where God interacts with humanity, we recognize how important it is to be in God’s presence. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Where is the sacred space in your life? Do you sometimes take for granted God’s presence in your life? Take some time to thank God for His presence in your life and ask His forgiveness for those times that you ignore Him.

My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Psalm 84:2

Women often deal with feelings of insecurity and unworthiness, yet the lives of these women show that Jesus values us, wants a relationship with us, and can use us to further His kingdom. In her warm, conversational style, Rachael ties together her life experience, knowledge of the Scriptures, and her compassion for women to encourage us and enable us to become the women God has called us to be.

Our Enemies are Also God’s Enemies: Reflections from Psalm 83
One of the truths of Scripture that has changed things for me is the understanding that as God’s child, my enemies are His enemies. We see in Psalm 83 how the enemies of Israel are the enemies of God. What we see is a powerful way to pray when we are up against something bigger than ourselves. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
How does it feel to think about our enemies being God’s enemies? How does that change your perspective, spiritually, about the ways the enemy has kept you bound in the past? Spend some time in prayer as you process this today.
Today’s Key Verse:
Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83:18
