Here's A Guy episodes

  • Episode 38: Just Gator Things (feat. Mitch the Peach)

(Harry Caray voice) Holy cow!!! (end Harry Caray voice) (there's a reason I did that, wait just a second) With no JackJohn for Episode 38, we are so honored to have our great friend Mitch the Peach back to fill in! Mitch was our guest in the delightful Episode 10, and it's been too long since he's been back, so we rectify that situation right here. As our guy in Chicago, we start things off by running through a list of people to find out where they land on Mitch's Chicagoan Rage Meter. Find off who pisses him off the most! We also get some updates on our friend/recurring character Darrell, and we find out why JackJohn isn't here this week (but we do that in between the first and second Guy segments because we're dumb guys who forgot to do it up top). Then it's 3 delightful stories, from the many baseball exploits of Dock Ellis (not just the one everyone knows about!), an alligator who became a beloved Chicago celebrity, and the tremendous feats of a legendary circus performer.

  • Episode 37: Corpse Juice

Hot diggity dog, we have another new episode of Here's a Guy for you. Isn't that just a bit of terrific? I'm not sure what bit I'm doing here. Maybe an enthusiastic 1950s guy? Like a guy inviting you to a sock hop? I don't know man. I write these things every week and the creative process is just rambling. Not once have I ever started writing an episode description knowing how it was going to conclude. I don't have time for that crap. I'm busy. But not too busy to entertain you fine folks! See, I brought it back home. This week, we discuss an excellent opening topic about pop culture, storytelling, and mythology suggested to us by listener Jeremy. Then, we have stories of an elite Greek athlete whose clowning of his competition didn't end after his death, a crooked Southern mayor so stupid it led to the downfall of himself and a powerful crime syndicate, and a gangster who spent more time crafting his reputation than actually being good at what he did.

  • Episode 36: Much Dudes About Nothing

Welp. here we are. Doing this ridiculous show during a terrible time to be alive and a decent person in this world. Maybe that's the wrong way of looking at it. Maybe in dark times people like hearing 3 dumb guys entertain each other by telling the worst penis jokes they can think of. Maybe we're doing a service to the world by doing this. If that's the case, you're welcome. Also, you're welcome for not having any ads. It's totally because of a principled stance and not because I'm too lazy to figure out how to do it. Sorry about the audio though, which is once again the quality that a mean person would say is indicative of a free amateur podcast. While that may be, we bring you topics you won't hear anywhere else (please ignore the instances where we cover a topic you can hear somewhere else). This week is no different, with 3 topics that run the gamut, from an Bostonian British loyalist whose obnoxious attitude got him in hot water (or rather, hot something else), a guy in 17th century Connecticut who was so ugly that it got him into some upsetting legal trouble, and a heroic doctor who ruthlessly challenged the legal system in order to champion women's reproductive health in Canada.

  • Episode 35: I'm Your Pope Now

We're diving headfirst into summer with a sizzling episode of Here's a Guy. Hopefully our ice cold 3-pack of kooks this week is enough to quench your thirst in this heat wave. Sure, just because the world is headed towards a miserable, fiery demise due to our own needless actions doesn't mean we can't have some fun, right? "Kook" is in fact the operative word this week, as we have stories of a a guy so tradcath he declared himself the Pope, a foremost archaeologist who ruined his credibility in a rather fun way, and a genuinely great artist who sculpted a terrifying horse.

  • Episode 34: Unlucky Pierre

Good god it's hot outside! Like, upsettingly hot! But here's the good news. We keep it oh so cool with a new episode of Here's a Guy. Yes, that's the best I can come up with for the episode description riff. Like I said, it's hot, ok? And I'm tired. I know it wasn't good. It's like a line you'd hear on "National Geographic's Really Wild Animals." Anyone else remember those videos? Any 90s kids in the chat? Anyone remember "floam?" I'm losing my mind. In this episode of the podcast, JackJohn addresses the allegations from last week's episode and Alex gives a detailed review of the city of Milwaukee. Then, 3 super fun stories, from the wacky prison escapes of a French criminal, the controversial victor of Zimbabwe's Ugliest Man contest, and a pioneering LGBTQ activist who became the first ever drag queen.

  • Episode 33: Brown Alert (feat. Pookie)

Hey hey hey, we're back once again- and this time, we have company! Our good friend Pookasaurus Rex is here in JackJohn's absence- and unlike a few weeks ago, this episode will not be lost to the sands of time. And thank goodness, because it's a fun one. We open by talking about Pookie's ongoing/future projects and more of Cody's strange encounters in public. Then, a variety of fascinating tales, from a mysterious  Norwegian serial criminal of an unusual variety, an enormous mansion full of absurd details and absurd people, and a heroic maid who found a great way to stick it to a Nazi official at a dinner party.

  • Episode 32: Large Luigi

Holy cats, it's another episode of Here's a Guy. Man, can you imagine a cat in a little pope costume? What if it was one of those hairless cats? Adorable. My cat never wears clothes because he's a big fat guy. Oh well. A pretty bonkers episode this week, starting off with a weird jogger Cody saw and a review of the things people are searching on google that bring up links to our show (tsk tsk on a bunch of these, frankly). Then, we have 3 similarly bonkers tales of guys, from the unethical doctor who launched the Satanic Panic, the inventor of the saxophone and his many near-death experiences, and the rise and fall of one of pro wrestling's most infamous promoters/cocaine enthusiasts.

    Dr. Lawrence Pazder- 28:09

  • Episode 31: Mind Goblins

Last week, we took arguably the biggest L in the history of this podcast. An entire episode with a special guest recorded, then an audio issue made it unsalvageable. This week, we attempt to make it up to our wonderful listeners with a truly bonkers episode. We open up with apologies and an attempt at atonement as Alex consumes a deadly parasitic fungus- with fascinating results! Then, we have three wild stories, from the most legendary cannibal of the Old West, to an Indiana mayor with an incredible name, to a a guy who decided to consume an absurd buffet of drugs live on the internet. We left it all on the field for this one folks, hopefully you enjoy as much as we did.

Special shoutout to our good friend Pookie, our good friend who would have been out special guest last week, but whose incredible moment we hear in the intro of this episode.

  • Episode 30: The Impression That I Get

We're back with episode 30, which is good news, but the bad news is that it's SO FUCKING HOT OUT. Good grief. As you may expect, this has the fellas a little bit cranky. They talk about how sweaty they get, then also read a listener email, which is way more pleasant. For our trio of topics, Cody starts off by sharing the tale of a mysterious English assailant with a shocking twist ending. Alex then discusses whether an eccentric lodge owner and presidential namesake should have really become beloved for refusing to back down to a volcano. Finally, JackJohn tells the story of a grieving mother who threw all of her goodwill out the window by going on one of the dumbest media crusades of all time. Enjoy, and please check out our new upcoming D&D stream, twitch.tv/HeresAnAdventure, debuting this Sunday 5/15!

  • Episode 29: Booty Trap

Holy cow, it's another classic Here's a Guy episode! I really have no frame of reference for whether that's true or not, but I like to think so. I also think that if a bunch of time passes and we're at episode like 150 because we still don't have anything better to do, all of these early episodes will be considered classic! Maybe by then I'll think of some better transitional banter and a better way to write these descriptions. Probably not, but maybe. Speaking of classic, this week we're back to our classic format. First we read an excellent listener email and discuss random Star Wars side characters, the perils of any entire town's water line getting severed, and the history of bananas. Then it's 3 unique tales, from the Rocky & Bullwinkle creator's rather ill-timed publicity stunt, a woman whose strange emergency room death has long baffled medical science, and a WWII spy whose existence was the work of even more brilliant WWII spies.
