When insects are eating away trees, what do you do to combat this... introduce a new species, of course! English Sparrows were introduced to the American east coast in the 1850s. They even became a fad amongst amateur ornithologists. Expert ornithologists were against this invasive species, which sparked a decades-long academic "war" in the ornithology world. Join as we talk about the key players in this "war", the outrageous slanders against each side and the unlikely reason why the sparrow population in America began to level out at the turn of the century.

In June 1912 the entire Moore family, as well as the visiting young Stillinger sisters, would be found brutally murdered by an axe. No one knows why or who executed any entire family. Some claim it was a random drifter. Others say it was a serial killer. Some believe that it was a rival of Josiah Moore. There's a long list of suspects and a lot of information with this one, so strap in.

This week we are taking a deep dive into the history and deciphering of the Rosetta Stone! We start off in Ancient Egypt and follow Pharoah Ptolemy V and his rise to the throne, along with the Memphis Decree written in his name. Then we jump ahead in time to 1799 and Napoleon's quest through Egypt and the finding of this massive stellae. We continue on with the names and attempts to study and decipher ancient hieroglyphs. This week we are going back to the Middle Ages for some bizarre music. First, we go to the early 1500s and visit a king who was presented with a very unusual gift: cats. But not just any cats, a piano made of screeching cats! We continue back to the 1300s and meet King Louis XI of France, who commissioned an Abbe to create the most unusual thing he could think of. The result: the pig piano! Last on out tour, we go to France in the 1100s and visit the Troubadour, Bertran de Born. He was a major celebrity of his time and would often write songs about war, soldiers and torture. Join us at the end where we read you some of his lyrics!
