When I first started this podcast, I had no idea how much pain there actually was in this world due to mental illness. Hearing your stories and understanding how many struggle with mental health has solidified this cause even more for me.
If you are new here, Thursdays are special days where we take a moment and give space for gratitude. Why? Gratitude is a powerful tool that will literally attract abundance and more opportunities to experience things to be grateful for. The best part? It’s free.
The more you practice gratitude the more you will see gratitude. It’s a ripple effect. It will improve every area of your life...so why not use it?
This week I interviewed a few people who made a huge difference in my life by walking with me through some of my darkest moments while struggling with depression and anxiety. Reliving those memories during our interview caused me to reflect on how grateful I was for their presence, how far I have come, and how lucky I was to hang on even to the tiniest string of hope.
Lastly, I just wanted to thank YOU for living out loud, sharing your stories, and inspiring the world. We really are making a difference, one story at a time, and breaking the stigma of mental illness. Please connect with us in our private community and let us know what you are grateful for.

Seeing someone you love suffering from a mental illness is extremely difficult, especially as a child. Processing through your own emotions all while being a support for them is a hard balancing act and can subject the caregiver with their own mental health struggles.
This week we are connecting with the author of Breaking Into My Life, Michelle Dickinson about what it was like for her to grow up with a mother suffering from BiPolar disorder. Michelle graciously shares with us about her adoption journey, what it was like living in a home with mental illness, and how she has navigated adulthood after enduring trauma as a child.
In this episode, you will learn about the importance of forgiveness, how we can humanize mental health which helps us remove the stigma, and why it is vital to separate mental illness from the individual. This is a powerful interview that is not only educational but also inspiring to those who are caregivers to loved ones suffering from mental illness.
If you or someone you love is struggling with a mental illness, having a supportive community is everything. We would love to lock arms with you and walk alongside you in your journey. Please connect with us in our private facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2079694042156503/

Today, I wanted to discuss giving gratitude to the people who formed us. We have to remember where we came from and how we became who we are. Yes, we become who we are because of the circumstances and events in our lives, but we are really shaped by the PEOPLE in our lives. This episode I want to dedicate to my parents and mentor Rachel.
My parents were huge influences in my life specifically on the importance of giving gratitude. Every time I participate in an act of gratitude I think of them. They always believed in me and my five siblings and they gave us the courage to shine in our own way. They expressed gratitude in everything and instilled in us the importance of being thankful. So much so it became a part of our DNA.
I also wanted to highlight my mentor Rachel. For years she has believed in me and encouraged me to be fully myself. Even when things were sometimes hard to hear she spoke the truth and I always knew that she loved me. She formed who I am today and gave me confidence.
On a separate note, we hit a big milestone this week by hitting the top 200 podcasts out of all categories in iTunes! A big “thank you” to all of our listeners! This milestone is surreal! What mine is yours so without all of your reviews and ratings we could not have done it. Everything we do is together.
Today’s gratitude shoutouts:

This week we are digging into an extremely difficult but necessary topic. I had the special honor of connecting with Anne Moss, a mother, author, and founder of Emotionally Naked, a blog dedicated to her late son Charles Aubrey Rogers, who lost his life to suicide.
In this vulnerable interview, Anne recounts the last few years of her son’s life and shares openly with us about his mental health and drug addiction struggles that ultimately lead to his death by suicide. Anne graciously talks about the vivid facts that many of us shy away from, including the stigma that families face when in crisis to mental health, and the lack of support when dealing with drug addiction.
Anne’s book Diary of a Broken Mind comes out in October of this year, and we will have her on again to share more tips and resources to those who have a loved one who is struggling or a loved one they have lost. But first, we wanted to shares Charles story and let you know that whether you are struggling yourself or if you have a loved one who is, you are not alone. We will break the stigma, one story at a time, and as always, together is better.
If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts please connect with someone. You are not alone.

In Episode Seven we connected with neuroscientist Selena Bartlett and heard about the sister that she lost to mental illness and how that shifted Selena’s career to studying “brain health” and neuroplasticity. Today, we dig in even deeper to hear about Selena’s own experience with depression and the way she was able to overcome it by “retraining” her brain.
Selena knows with conviction both through her work and through her personal experience that we CAN rewire our brains. She says that the process she shares with us is “simple” but not “easy”. Selena gives practical tactics to help make our brains more resilient to pain and remain peaceful in the midst of chaos.
In this episode, you will learn the role mirror neurons play in our depression, why the amygdala is wired to “protect us”, how we can train our brain to be “calm”, and how to use unconditional love as a tool to soothe loved ones through mental illness. She even asks me about the “moment of change” in my own journey and we discuss how using small moments can change the wiring of our brain.
Towards the end of the interview, we also dig into nutrition's role in mental health, why sugar should be avoided and how the brain negatively responds to it, and why Selena believes that exercise is the “elixir of life”. This interview is not only inspirational but incredibly informative. Please connect with us in our private Facebook group and let us know what you learned!
