They just don't make them like Mr. Ben Lilly anymore. Here is a little bit of Houndsman history for you.

Ben Lilly is without a doubt one of the icons of our past.  His dedication to his hounds and the game he pursued was something most of us could never express.  Todays reading includes notes from Mr. Lillys personal diary when working for the US Government along with a story of a Colt killing lion that he tracked for 4 weeks!

The bees are humming and the hoot owls are wondering who’s doing the cookin’ in this episode from the front porch as Cary returns to the Gone To The Dog Podcast after welcoming a new daughter into the Gruber household.

While he was gone, Corey joined the fund-raising ranks with his involvement in a charity called Wags for Kids.  His plan involves raising money for deserving kids needing therapy dogs and such and it produced the idea of a coonhound stud dog auction.   Thirty owners agreed to provide stud service on social media to the highest bidder with all proceeds going to the benefit.  The plan is working great and the boys talk about that in this episode which naturally leads into a much broader discussion of the ins and outs of running a stud dog in today’s tree dog market.

The discussion runs the gamut of pros and cons and provides a lot of insight and information for anyone thinking of putting a nice hound up for public stud.  Pull up and rocker, sharpen up your Ticonderoga #2 and let’s talk stud dogs with Corey and Steve.

Who doesn't love talking lions?  Lion hunters are a different breed for sure, but when you narrow that field down to the world of dry ground lion hunters its a pretty small circle.  Today Brett sits down with Mr. Ottis Lewellen to talk dogs, lions and more. While on a short trip to Kentucky chasing a few birds with longtime hunter Jerry Barker, the conversation gets deep. Heath and Jerry touch on everything from conservation to tree-climbing hounds. You may even learn how Ole Tom Turkey gives them the slip with the help of a snitching squirrel. This one is full of tailgate talk you won’t want to miss.

It takes a lot to keep a hound performing at a top level.  Regardless of if you need them to perform every day or just get to the woods occasionally, we need them to be ready to perform at a moments n...

Today Buddy and Jason sit down with Brandon White to talk some dog food.  The guys talk about the process and the safety measures put in place to ensure a quality and safe product.  We had no idea just how much dog food is being produced in this country but when you think about the capacity of just one plant it’s mind boggling. Make sure to check out https://nextlevelpetfood.com/ for information on their products and if you want to check out the videos Buddy is referring to check out next level super premium pet food on facebook.

We all have had to stretch a dollar at some point but some people take it to the extreme.  The funny part is we all seem to come up with the money for the things we want most.  In this case it’s a “Coon hunting Mule”.

We hope you enjoy this story filled with trainwrecks, an unusual chase and one raunchy mule.  Ol” Milo has really got himself into a mess on this one!  Sore feet, broken ego and some fence repairs are just the beginning for Ol’ Milo.

Hunting in the U.S. has become increasingly challenging due to various factors, including stricter regulations, diminishing wildlife populations, and the anti-hunting advocates trying to disregard the North American wildlife model over emotions and feelings. Seth Watts is a well-known and accomplished bear hunter from Northern California. Seth tells us about some things going on with the bear management plan in CA. He also believes hounds are the best way to manage bear and tells us a cool story or two.

When your dad’s the most successful Treeing Walker breeder in recent history with major money wins, World Championships and Hall of Fame inductions at every turn, it would appear that sharing the big stage, the limelight if you will, would be a long time coming in the shadow of dad Randy’s success.  When you have the attitude, work ethic and the respect for the game of a seventeen-year old Troy Smith, being recognized for your own achievements seems as natural as summer rain.

In this episode, Steve heads up to western Pennsylvania to hunt with Troy and Randy and to record Troy’s story.  The trip entailed two nights of hunting with a pair of Lone Pine yearlings, Lone Pine Phara at seventeen months and Lone Pine Phalse Profit at fourteen months.  A total of nine raccoons were seen on as many trees on the two-night hunt.  The second night was a short one as Steve respected the early departure time for his homebound flight.

This recording is worth your time for a number of reasons, especially if there are young hunters in your family or circle of friends.   It presents the opportunity to view the sport and what it holds for young ones that indeed will inherit it and carry it forward.  Refreshing is the word that comes to mind.
