How epigenetics can help with pregnancy symptoms, interview with Charan Surdhar

Listen Later

Being pregnant sucks. Well, it can suck; especially if you experience hardcore pregnancy symptoms. And even more so if the pregnancy symptoms just keep on coming, or get even worse. It can feel really frustrating and overwhelming, particularly as you are severely limited in the medication you're able to take. And then when a quick google check or a trip to the doctors tells you that you have to put up with this until baby arrives, it can too easily lead to feelings of helplesslessness and desperation. This negative emotional cocktail creates an undercurrent of stress which does nothing to help you prepare for a fear free birth. But that's not all; this emotional cocktail is creating quite an unpleasnat marinade for your baby to bathe in while growing. This last bit means it's really important to try and minimise the negative emotions that you might be experiencing when pregnant. The thing is when you're suffering from yet more pregnancy symptoms that can be really hard.
But there is hope! Pregnancy symptoms can be banished. Yes! And one way to help get relief from pregnancy symptoms is by tapping into the magic of epigenetics.
To help me explain what epigenetics is and how it can help you with your pregnancy symptoms, on today's podcast I'm chatting to epigeneticist Charan Surdhar. Charan works a lot with women who are on their pregnancy journey, but even before, when they're trying to conceive.
Charan Surdhar is a geneticist by academic training and work history, turned epigeneticist from her innermost desire to reveal the truth about our human potential. She has a BSc degree in Microbiology, and a MSc in Human Genetics. She worked in the field of genetics for 13 years, identifying genetic mutations for a whole host of genetic diseases and contributed to scientific papers as well as textbooks. Today, she works specifically with genetic diseases, assisting to release the energy, in the form of emotions, beliefs and perceptions that get in the way of the natural flow of the body to bring about positive gene expression.
Charan leads the paradigm shift in the revolutionary new field of epigenetics. She has been featured on the Hidden Science TV show, and also for the upcoming movie Punk Science.  She runs her own blogtalkradio show, once a month at www.blogtalkradio.com/mind-body-spirit-u.She is also an author of a book which you can find here www.hebathehoop.com. She has a huge passion to create animated videos to explain in a simple way, concepts such as epigenetics, which you can find on her youtube channel. www.charansurdhar.com
During our chat, Charan shares
what epigenetics is and why it works
some of the scientific studies that support the ideas behind it
what kind of pregnancy symptoms it can help with
what morning sickness is usually a sign of and how to address it
how she works with couples who are experiencing fertility issues, or who are trying to conceive
I first interviewed Charan on my Head Trash Show podcast and if you want to hear that interview then listen up here.
During our chat, I also share my personal story of when I experienced Pelvic Girdle Distress (PGD) during my pregnancy, and how I made it go away overnight by using the brilliant book by Dr Bradley Nelson: The Emotion Code. This is a great self help book that's very easy to follow and I used it throughout my pregnancy when ever a new pregnancy symptom reared its ugly head.

Are you currently suffering from some challenging pregnancy symptoms? Did you suffer with difficult pregnancy symptoms when you were pregnant? How did you cope with them? Have you got any tricks to share? Let me know in the comments!
